Official 2017 Traditional Forum's TC Barlow Picture Thread.

Marty, oil will soften bone but it has to be soaked in it. A quick shot of WD40 in the pivot area won't hurt it.
Doesn't GEC soak the entire knife in a vat of oil to remove dirt and grime before it goes to inspection? So that softens the knives that have bone covers?

When I went on the GEC Tour a few weeks ago, Will said they use a commercial oil similar to WD40 on the knives. When I am storing my knives in the tubes as safe queens, I use one drop of CorrosionX and use my finger spread it throughout the entire knife, even on the covers. I have never had patina develop or have I had a problem with the covers of any kind. Although, it is only one drop, so it is a very thin layer. I think sometimes we put so much thought into it, we over complicate things. But I do appreciate all the technical talk. Ha ha.

no mineral oil? or will this not be for food prep

Jack my friend, I still use 3in1 even if the knife is used for food prep, I always have. I place just a fraction of a drop in the joint so I'm sure it's so miniscule it wouldn't affect my food. Also after years of 3in1 on my cereal I've built up my immune system:) and what's this? I squeak when I walk? Only if I have to pay the bill:D

(First thought in my head, literally!)
Oh my goodness!!!!

Never have I ever owned a TC barlow and this week I have found myself with three of them! I am so thankful that I am able to own them because for the longest time they were seemingly out of my reach. Ever since I discovered GEC years ago, I always wanted one of these. In a way this was a "Grail Knife". But it was more of a destination for my knife collection. Anyway I am grateful and most thankful that I am fortunate enough to have acquired these and to anyone who missed out I say two things: Be vigilant and be patient. With those two things you can acquire anything. Thank you all for your wonderful pictures and contribution to the knife community!

Just a couple of days after the BF knives went on sale, I made a post lamenting the fact that this year's Forum Knife just wasn't in the cards for me due to budget constraints. I was really bummed because the past two year's knives were just outside of my size range, and this year's TC would absolutely be a knife I carried.

As we have often seen in our little corner of the internet, the generosity and friendship that abound here can cause astonishment. Well, I'm astonished. One of our finest, and someone I am happy to call my friend, Randy ( r redden r redden ) reached out to me and told me a story about how a day after purchasing his BF knife, he felt compelled to buy another, but he didn't really know why. He purchased that second knife and one day later read my post. He said he understood why he bought that second knife: because it was meant for me. Now, personally, I think this means Dear Old Randy has finally lost his marbles. :p I received a stunning example of this year's BladeForums TC Barlow along with an absolute peach of a 1943 Mercury Dime and a hand written note from the one and only Mr. Redden.

I wrote my own little note for Randy even though it will never properly express my gratitude for not only the incredible gift but also his friendship.

I don't know Randy exceot through BF. I do know that he's been through some tough times of his own and to be able to think of others shows the mettle of the man. So it goes without saying what a fine person he is. I do know you Shawn and you are quite deserving of this fine gesture. Just another notch in BladeForums fine reputation.

Well done Randy. I was just telling another member via PM how I wished I had bought a second one for the same reason. I hate seeing folks that bagged two only to resell them, when regulars here drew the short straw trying to get one only to find they were all sold out.
I'm happy for you Shawn.

You beat me to a hat-trick post! My two Charlows come tomorrow, Postman willing.

Glad you like it Shawn and was more than happy to send it to you. I agree Bob and Jack but as long as there's a dollar to be had there will always be those trying to take advantage.

Thank you my friend for keeping it about the knives and not dollars and cents. In this niche corner of the internet I am glad to know there are still people out there who care more about the hobby than a profit.

The two corners of the forums are polar opposites but the generosity and the friendships exhibited and made are genuine and an example of the people who propagate both ends. Funny thing, there are many who are active on bothered extremes. ;) One thing you hafta admit, there is no other place like Blade Forums or the constituents who inhabit it.

Back to the 2017 GEC, BFC SFO, (boy that's a lot of acronyms) annual knife for the Traditional Forums, here's a quick pic of this year's knife in the box I keep all my forum knives in. Something tells me I'm gonna need a bigger box after this year ;) :) .

The "Porch" in action. Shawn....Glad you got one of the BF knives because it is a GREAT knife. Good job Randy.

Thanks for the well wishes, folks, and an especially big thanks to everyone for giving Randy the Three Cheers.

I couldn't wait to start using my BFTC, so I put it right to work this morning slicing an apple. Starting the patina early so I can carry it to work without as much worry of rust.
