Official SURVIVE! picture thread

Am I the only one who looks at the gear, looks at Riz's avatar, and nods? Other folk here aren't familiar with such an iconic character's fictional biography?

Hopefully that is an up and down nod of approval and not a side to side shake.

I do love that character. Too bad the punisher movies tend to suck!

As fitting as the avatar is, I have been thinking of changing it to something outdoorsy, or my other favorite... A gadsden flag.

GSO 5 on its maiden voyage.

Very nice man. I'll be glad when the 4.7s roll out. They were the only reason I passed on the 5's, they look great.

NorthernArcher, that is so awesome. You have great taste and those pics are some of the best I've seen of a 5. Nice!

Did you like the Thomas Jane version? I thought it was the best adaptation.

Sweet pictures everyone! Really hoping someone come up on the site for normal sales soon.

Never heard of this Survive Knives before. Been using my blades for years and haven't been keeping up with the market. Are they good? Are they custom? Expensive? Thanks in advance!

I'll give you the short answer and maybe follow up with a giant rant if nobody beats me to it.......

They call themselves a craft knife company, like mid tech. They control a lot of production aspects at a ridiculous high standard, but they're not each hand forged. Although every blade is hand sharpened and will arrive to you sharp enough to shave hair. Top quality materials and arguably the industry's best attention to detail and... high standards. They use mostly CPM 3V and 20cv steels.

Prices range from just below $100 to $350. For some that are used to 1095 mass production knives that is too high a price tag, but the actual value you get with materials and craftsmanship is way above what you pay.

Order one. This company is my favorite :D

You will have a wait time. Super high quality at very reasonable prices come at a trade off. The company is a whopping 3 people. How did you manage to get to this part of the forum? I am always interested in hearing how everyone finds out a out Survive! Knives.

Keep an eye on the exchange. They pop up from time to time and go really fast.

I was just surfing through the active threads in the forum and came across the Survive! Knives. First I thought it was a general survival knife thread until I realized that it was actually a brand. Looking at the pics I could see that they looked to be of high quality, and wondered why I have never heard of them. Then I realized that I've been using my same knives for so long that I've been out of the market loop for quite many years. Thanks for asking!

What are your current favorite knives? What have you been using?

Totally not trying to be a douche but I think we should bump this conversation to the chat thread. Too much words, not enough pics... I am guilty of it too...

Silver Needle, I've been a Kabar USMC lover since I bought my first one in March of 1986 when I arrived at ft. Bragg as a newly assigned Airborne Infantryman in the 82nd. I fell in love with the 1219C2 F/U pattern that that's all I've used. Got several that I've accumulated through out the years laying around in my BOBs. Every time I've set foot in the outdoors the Kabar and a SAK Huntsman is all I've used for 34 years, and never looked back. About 8 years ago I purchased an RC6 (ESSE now) to see what the full tang, brutish designs that were becoming all the rage bandwagon was all about. Used it hard on 2 outings and though it is a good knife, it felt heavy and blocky on my belt so in the safe it went. For my approach to the outdoors and my techniques my Kabar USMC is plenty strong. I wrote a comment on the Kabar forum in the thread titled " what do you use your Kabar USMC for" started by a member called Semper Praesidio. In my reply I wrote my personal military experience with this knife and if you want to read it you'll better understand why I have been living in a cave in regards to the knife market. Thanks for inquiring bud!

Riz, point well made.

Tex, thanks for getting us back on track with a great pic!

h minus, check the chat thread for my fancy copying and pasting and a reply!

Has anyone else had any bad experiences with Survive! www.SurviveKnives.com? I placed a pre-order for their 3.5 on June 8, 2015. Their site clearly states pre-orders take 3-6 months. On January 6, 2016, I had enough and decided to cancel this pre-order. I called and left a message, emailed them from the confirmation email, posted a comment on their Facebook page, and used their own "contact us" form on their website and heard nothing back for a week. In the meanwhile thinking I would never hear from them, I started a dispute with my credit card company. The next day Survive emailed me and said they'd refund me my money via Paypal, but I'd have to cancel the dispute first. They said they'd give me a refund, but not two. Apparently they were not familiar with this process. Needless to say I wasn't comfortable doing that and I emailed Survive again requesting they reconsider. They would have proof via Paypal that they sent me the refund that they could use to show the credit card company if they thought I was some dirtbag. They did not respond. I took a chance with them. I pre-ordered and prepaid $169 to them that they've sat on for over seven months and they won't do the right thing. So, now I have to wait 45 days for the dispute process. Buyer beware I guess...
