Old Friends Friday

Here's an Old Friend that's always a pleasure to look up.

I am on page 9 of this wonderful thread. Somehow it has escaped my awareness until today. One of the things I am still enjoying about being fairly new on here is the serendipitous moments when you stumble on a thread that speaks to you. This thread speaks to me. :) Thanks Jack, a wonderful idea.
I first became acquainted with this old friend in 1973. I purchased it and its brother new. It happens to be a '72 vintage.
If I were to venture a guess, I would say that it has been in my pocket for over 60% of the last 42 years. The scales are
worn almost smooth, the bolsters are frosty from so many scratches, but all 3 blades are still tight, sharp and snappy.
All in all a tried and true friend! Thanks Jack for reminding us all the value of friendship:thumbup:

Great post Ron. A long time to bond with what became truly an old friend.

Without a doubt my oldest friend. This one is family.
Incredible knife. CHARACTER saturation. :)

Jack, you must take pictures of the Vikings again! Was that last year that your Quest led you to some trouble with those folks?

In my pocket today is my old Boker. This is the knife that made me appreciate the Barlow pattern. Before, I thought they were too bulky for their size, and somehow off balance looking with that big single bolster. Then I held this one, and the switch flipped. I love this little tank.

Happy Friday, everyone!
And speaking of character... truly fantastic barlow.

Hers the old G ADAMS quest knife at work this evening. A joy to to use a real slicer.
As you can see in the pic I'm sampling some Monteiths Original Ale.
Although I loath and despise anything and anyone from east of North Wollongong beach I must admit they make a couple of decent beers.
Isn't this the final prize of the wizard's quest?

I bought this old knife, made by Abram Brooksbank of Sheffield, from an old antique shop in an ugly West Yorkshire mill town, about 3 years ago. I think it was originally a Lambsfoot, which has been worn down through hard use, but carefully sharpened to retain its usefulness. I love its character, and the buttery feel and caramel colour of the old stag. I used to carry it often, but it's not been in my pocket for 18 months or so, when I carried it on a glorious summer day in the latter days of the infamous Wizard's Quest. It feels good to have it in my pocket today for Old Friends Friday :) Have a lovely day everyone and a great weekend

Magnificent lambsfoot Jack. What a glorious knife.

I know Sarah may not be listening these days, but this barlow is one I've never seen and it is a dream.

I know it’s not Friday but I love the old friends thread. This is my first Barlow and one that I carried quite a bit in the beginning of my becoming a folding knife nut. Love the blade configuration and STRONG snap! Sadly it doesn’t see as much pocket time as it should. But here it is seeing the light of day today!

This old US Boker, from the early 20th century, is one of my really treasured knives, sent to me by paulhilborn paulhilborn several years ago. Paul sent it with a Case Zippo, a US Quarter I keep in my wallet, and a charming story (I still have his letter) :) Paul found the knife in an old family-owned shoe shop in the town where he lives. The shop has been there for over 50 years, repairing shoes and boots, jacket zippers, etc, as well as making knife sheaths, canvas tarps, and selling rifles, shotguns, fishing tackle and archery gear - what a great place! Of course, they also sell knives, mainly by Buck. Paul discovered the old Boker there, with a chipped blade, and some rust and pitting. He cleaned her up beautifully, and very generously sent her my way :) Thanks Paul, what a great knife, from a great friend
