Old Friends Friday

My Case Sodbuster Jnr was a gift from Woodrow, who sent it me with some Tony Cachere's Louisiana Table Salt :) BAM! :D I've carried it a lot, but not for a while, and regard it as a real classic and a great knife. It's so versatile that I can well understand folks who never buy anything else, as useful out on a hike as it is in the kitchen. I even love the yeller Delrin :) It feels good to have the Soddie back in my pocket today

Hers the old G ADAMS quest knife at work this evening. A joy to to use a real slicer.
As you can see in the pic I'm sampling some Monteiths Original Ale.
Although I loath and despise anything and anyone from east of North Wollongong beach I must admit they make a couple of decent beers.

Good to see that one in use my friend. By coincidence, I was having a conversation about it yesterday with a feller on Leeds market, he still remembered the knife :)

This was my first American traditional , if you dont count the Buck 110 i had forty odd years back. When this Soddy came it had a little side to side blade play and as i had waited two weeks for it to arrive i did not want to send it back, as i intended it as a user i took a ball pein hammer to it leaving a mark but that is okay it gives it that lived in look. I had a few Case knives after this one until i discovered GEC when most of my Case knives went to enable my new addiction, but i kept this old yeller, i dont use it now but my great nephew who is nine gets to use it when he comes to visit, i have promised him all my knives when i have gone.

I don't know why the yellow delrin looks so delicious. Something to do with lemon sherbet, perhaps.

In a vein similar to the soddie jrs, here are a couple I had forgotten I had. (I was looking for something else.) Too big to carry for the most part, but while I recuperate from seasonal malaise, I'll put them in my sweater pockets for a little strength training. Both by Camillus.

My old friend for today is this Laguiole Rossignol given to me by my father some twenty odd years back

This little Schrade is a new Old friend. This is my second pinched bolster congress knife, I feel a collection coming on :D

Best regards

Robin

Here's my old friend for today. A case mini trapper, which hits the perfect sweet spot for me as far as size, pocketability, but feeling like I've got a KNIFE in my pocket not just a toy.

It's got great snap, nice easy case 4-5 pulls, and has done everything I've ever asked of it. Which has been much more than a lot of my other knives. When I'm going somewhere, I put a nice knife in my pocket and these days it's usually a GEC.

But if I'm going somewhere that I think some serious knife usage might be in order, this case is my go-to carry.

Recently, I realized I wasn't carrying it much because I really didn't like the autumn bone scales - there were greens and reds in there that just seemed garish and ruined what is otherwise a handsome knife (IMO). So I gave it a bath in fiebing's (mohagany color) - just enough to get rid of the garish streaks.

It's a damned good knife and old friend. Happy to have it in my pocket today!

Before retirement, this old friend sliced through work days nicely
Not sure what the steel is, but some lovin' from the Lansky touches it right back up sharper than new
Tried to take it apart once and as you can see ... well ... that didn't work

This is one of my most treasured knives. It was in my pocket for the two most important days in my life, my wedding day and the birth of my daughter. I almost lost it a couple of times so I don't carry it much anymore, saving it for birthdays, anniversaries, and such. But in honor of Old Friends Friday I dropped it in my pocket this morning. I'd nearly forgotten what a nice knife it is.

Lovely story Christian, and a beautiful knife. Thanks for sharing both with us my friend :)

Thanks Jack. I figured that you'd like it, the knife being a sodbuster and all.

;)

Nice P, that knife has a lot of character
