"Old Knives"

Found this at a local antique store not long ago. Ol Cut, Union Cutlery Co. that could be close to 100 years old or more. Strong snap, no wobble, and very sharp. Had to get it. Never saw one before.

That is a unique shape and color, was trying to find a knife with the same coke bottle/coffin jack but with the axe head type bolster and haven't found one, what pattern is it described as.

Several years ago, a WWII Marine vet gave me this knife. He went into the Corps in 1943 at age 17. He said that his mother had to sign permission for him to go in. He told me that before going overseas (Okinawa), a neighbor gave him the knife. He said that the neighbor had to be at least in his 80's at the time and he told the vet that his grandfather had made the knife. The neighbor told him that because of the "bad" places he was about to go, he just might need it. I realize that there is no way to prove it, but to me, it looks like something a Confederate might have carried as a side knife during the CW. Thoughts and comments welcomed. Thanks.

Incredible piece of history. Do you know in what state in the US that the neighbor’s grandfather lived?
