Oregon Knife Collectors 2025 Show

I have just had time to sit down and have a good look through this thread, AMAZING trip!! Worth every penny - Bladeforums friends this is such a great show. 😊👍
Up at 2:30 this morning, I’m slightly into my 20 hours flying, then add on top of that - add another 17 hours combined in the terribly long waiting times at the Airports on the way home - just to add salt into the wound I can’t sleep on a plane so I am awake for all that time 😔
I just Googled the Miles from Auckland Airport to Portland = 6,891.00 miles not including my flight to Auckland from Napier and the trip from Portland to Eugene. I’m starting to really feel it now.

Thank you Dan for taking all these photos my friend and for the time in posting these and sharing the great tables. 👍

glad to hear youve made the journey home!

I can't resist a good relic knife!! This one hits the spot!!View attachment 2850136View attachment 2850144Once a nice step-bolstered, two blade Barlow, this on has about 40% of a blade remaining, which still snaps!! It also has nice, mellow Stag handles, and is marked Norvell-Shapleigh around the <DE> logo!! ~1902-1920!!
Where else can you find that much History, for $5???
I am glad you like it Charlie. I have always remembered from the GEC Rendezvous you saying that you and John Augie Augie like to collect to older Barlow - even if in relic state to have the Bolsters as a reference etc.
When I saw that old Barlow on the table I knew I had to grab it - asking how much I nearly tipped the table trying to get the money out fast enough 😱
What really makes it is the Stag I instantly fell in love with - so old and it carries a gorgeous aged Stag hue.

Our Bladeforums friends have heard many times that the Oregan show is about the people more so than the knives.
I experienced just that.
Yes- of course the knives are a big thing and I picked up some- but the people, or should I say the fantastic people there really makes it worth it.

Can I put forward my apologies before I even start, as there were many people I met as well as catching up with friends, and I can’t remember all the names, so if I have left you out - please forgive me.
I can’t take any photos of knives as they were packed up and sent to NZ. I will follow up later on once the dust settles.
Barrett- THANK YOU for sorting out the awesome Church that we stayed in- it was great meeting you in person finally and boy am I glad I did.

As the guys in the latest of the CATCH BIT podcast says- the corner where waynorth waynorth Charlie, knowtracks knowtracks Dave, gunstockjack gunstockjack Barry, Rhidian Rhidian and Mike Moran had their tables all together was a pretty cool spot - so many people meeting up there.

It was so nice to meet danno50 danno50 Dan in person, I have always liked Dan and meeting him in person cemented that👍.
Again, finally meeting Pàdruig Pàdruig Dylan was awesome - great guy a real pleasure to meet you my friend.

The Church Gang:
Jakeywax31 Jakeywax31 Paul, again …. Finally getting to meet this great guy was a pleasure - it was awesome fun - great to meet you in person my friend.
Mike Moran after chatting with, emailing etc it was great to catch up with Mike - also his son Cole needs a mention as well, just a fantastic young man who was a very welcomed part of our group- a great father and son duo - it was a real pleasure to meet in person 😊👍

Speaking of Father and son. H herder and his son Chris- having met Neal before it was great to meet up again and then to meet Chris, Neal’s son, Chris too is an awesome young man and was also a very welcomed part of the Eugene Church Gang. A champion of a young man.

Myron ( I hope I spelt this correctly my friend ) who has been Neal’s long-time friend was yet another fantastic person to meet up with, I had many chats with Myron and I think he is su h a wonderful human being and we are all the better for having met this great guy!

Let’s not forget btb01 btb01 Barrett - spent more time with Barrett when in his home town after the show - he also traveled with Neal to pick up the Kiwi cargo being shoved out the car by the one and only paulhilborn paulhilborn - I made sure I was going to meet up with my great friends in ND, so after a couple of days at Paul’s they had had enough of me and so Paul insisted ( 🤣 ) in transferring me into the Hands of Neal at half way point - Alexandria.
Barrett is a fantastic guy - another friend I hadn’t met yet - so it was good for the soul to do so.

Anyone get anything from the Human bone handle guy?

Kinda weird to me, but maybe if the bone came from someone I knew… heck of a way to remember someone.

There are more macabre ways to remember someone. There is at least one business that will take cremated remains, recover the carbon, and put it in a tetrahedral press to make diamonds, which are then set in jewelry. I know someone who was considering doing that with her pet pig. The resulting diamonds are yellow.

That reminds me of some of the trips I have taken to the Philippines, frequently totaling about 36 hours to get to my wife's home town. But at least I have no trouble sleeping on the plane. Depart SFO around 10 PM, arrive in Manila around 6 AM local time, but I have had many hours of sleep in between and have zero jet lag.

It was great to meet gunstockjack gunstockjack Barry in person - over the years Paul and I have dealt with Barry and always has it been a great experience- I am gutted with the car trouble you have had Barry - If you listen to the CATCH BIT Pidcast - there is some great reviews on the Toyota Tacoma. Darn if they were in NZ I would snatch one up big time. Thank you for gifting me that hat my friend. That will get years of use 👍

knowtracks knowtracks - my friend!
it was awesome to see you again Dave. You touched a special place in my heart quite some time back and it was great to see you again.

Your display had so much love and honour in that display that one could almost still see the sweat pouring from the display’s from the effort in the creating.

All this was not only to showcase Charlie’s magnificent achievements but it was made to honour Charlie from Dave in probably the most special way one can - and that was Dave right there by Charlie’s side from dot 1, and Dave has all but an elusive few from all that Charlie has had made in the SFO productions that has awakened many from the dead and brought back to life many long forgotten patterns that now again exist worldwide.

I looked closely at Dave’s amazing joinery skills - those Cabinets are beautifully made my friend. The special glass and ALL this magnets do painfully set out under the show case felt. What a Huge Task.
This most definitely was a labour of love to honour Dave’s friend Charlie.
Dave I take my hat off to you my friend, not only are you a fearless Champion Bull Rider but your a Champion Human Being.

Edited ; Ok, I know I am tired with all the grammar mistakes 😂

maybe youre not drinking the coffee right

Yep, this one. I have long wondered about it because the backspring is thicker than the master blade, which usually means monkey business. But the punch looks like an Ulster.

I have one like this my friend and it is a big Harness Jack Knife my friend- mine has a very worn main - but I love it so much as it has been used so much the wear of the Wood is quite significant- it’s had a LOT of use - the punch is in fantastic condition and the Handle is almost as worn as the Biade 😍

The Knife just reeks of history and I was glad to pick it up from good ol’ fleabay

That is quite a difference and I wouldn’t expect Ulster to have passed that out like that, and I haven’t seen the Punch to be that different on a honest factory knife.

I have long suspected that the blade is not original, but how long ago it was replaced is anyone's guess.

Thanks for the pics!! It almost looks like there is a spacer next to the blade!! 😲 And it's quite krinked - love to see it in hand!! Interesting!!!

There is zero side to side play in the blade.

You've brought it all back, Duncan!! It was a wonderful time!! It sounds like you had a great, extended adventure!!
I am glad you like it Charlie.
I see I've neglected to give you credit for finding that Relic D-E, Duncan!! It is exactly what I would have picked up, had I not been chained to my table!!!

Thanks so much for that knife! Rhidian looked at it, and mused that it might make a nice Tony Bose style restoration, with new blades!! But I think I will keep it the way it is!!
