OT: Fiddlebacks & Firearms

Those are great combos. I don't shoot my guide gun as much as I should. I need to get to the range! What loads are you using through the 6.8?

Usually the Rem 115 SMK or Hor 110 v-max. Unfortunately I take about whatever I can get lately. How about you?

I load my own. I've settled on a Barnes TTSX 95 gr. over 29.5 gr of RE10X. Here's a freakishly small group out of that Noveske 10.5 with the Switchblock. I normally don't shoot this well (my best group ever) but I am still proud of it none the less. Certainly holds minute of pig/deer.

Wow, that's impressive. I've loaded H4195 with 110 Seirra Pro Hunters but never with the success of yours. After seeing your group and with the trouble finding 6.8 ammo I should give it another shot. Have you checked velocity on the 10.5 vs longer? I was contemplating building another 6.8 and was planning on an 18" but may rethink that.

I've never been able to ring out that type of accuracy with the 110 and 115s, but you can easily stay sub MOA. Yes, I run all through a chrono. There's not as much drop off as you think since the 6.8 uses relatively fast powders due to the case size. With the same load, between my wife's 16" and my 10.5 it drops off in the 175 fps range and you get a little back with the suppressor. Depending on the day, that load runs right at or a little under 2700 in my 10.5 and in the mid 2800 fps in a 16". Granted, that is a HOT load. The 10.5 drops off a lot more than a 12.5. You may have less than a 75 fps delta between the 12.5 and 16. I got rid of my 12.5 barrel, but I think I will get another when I see a good deal. 16 to 18 won't get you anything but the additional weight of 2 extra inches of barrel. I hate humping a heavy rifle.

I don't know why you guys have to buy guns to make you feel strong or whatever. I hate guns and can't understand wimps that own them. This world would be a much better place without all the rednecks and gun people. I fully support the government trying to take guns away from citizens and making this country a safer place. Guns are just stupid.

:confused::confused:

So, I suppose you want to send back that pistol I sold you? ;)

Is she the one who outshot you on the TV? :D:D

Dang man! Way to ruin my whole joke. I was hoping that someone would see this that didn't know who I was and flip out. Now I have to find another forum to do it in. LOL

Hey M4super90,
I smell another topic now, "Fiddlebacks and Reloading"!!! Another awesome hobby! Or maybe "Fiddlebacks and Presses"!!!

Holy cow there are a lot of guns here!!

All I have is a Remmington 870 super mag 12 ga that has faithfully put meat on the table and in the freezer for over a decade now. I'm actually considering getting a small revolver for a backup firearm during deer season. Something like a .357 mag with a 4" barrel. Any thoughts??

Schmittie:

There are a number of excellent choices, however you may want to take a close look at the Ruger SP101. Phil posted some pics and provided some insight in this thread. I agree with his assessment. It is a very reliable & accurate revolver. Pretty compact so it makes it easy to carry.

Whoa! Phil, am I looking at an Australian saddle?

Yes it is. That is my wife's saddle. They look different, but they are actually very comfortable and practical if you are not doing a lot of roping. My saddle is a western saddle.

In regard to your question on small .357 revolvers, I like the Ruger SP101 with 4.20" barrel & adjustable sights or the Smith & Wesson Model 60 with 3.00" barrel & adjustable sights. Both companies also make full size revolvers in .357 if that tickles your fancy.

Thanks,

Phil

Just wanted to add another set of firearms and Fiddlebacks. Springfield Armory .45acp started od green with 8lb. trigger pull, now solid black, 3lb. trigger and lots of little extras. Ruger Blackhawk .45 colt, stock with just a lighter trigger pull and Hogue grip. Fiddlebacks are burl Wasp and osage Bourbon Street Skinner (needed a second appearance after bad photo).

I'm also a big fan of reloading and do all my handgun loads. Plan to start loading some rifle rounds soon.
