OT: Fiddlebacks & Firearms

Finally! After a crazy summer I get to sit down and start catching up on the forum. I absolutely love this thread! I have so many combos that I want to photograph and put together but obviously I need to keep it under control. :D I hate only having a cell phone for pics but here are a few that I have to offer.

I agree with Tod. My favorites are the bone HB & GP100 combo along with the Duke combo. Both pairs are very classy with an old school theme.

Thanks for sharing the photos.

Thanks guys. I love these threads. I went back through this one this morning and there are so many great combos.

Phil I am currently in the market for something new. I have a little "gun money" saved up and ironically I am torn between the SP101 and the Gen 4 Glock 26. I've been staring at your pics. I don't have a need right now as much as a want so that is why I am looking at two entirely different pieces. Unfortunately it makes it a little more difficult to decide since I'm comparing apples and oranges. It literally comes down to - "do I want another semi auto or do I want another wheel gun". :D

Dave,

Given the two choices you are considering and the fact that you already have the GP100 & LCR, I would recommend the Glock 26 all the way. I shoot my G26 better than any other gun that I have owned. I also have an Advantage Arms .22 LR conversion kit for mine. It is literally a ten second conversion to go from 9MM to .22 LR or back again. This makes it my favorite "go to" gun for camping / plinking trips. I use the fun set-up during the day and the serious set-up for protection at night.

I'll take a few fresh pictures this weekend with the .22 conversion on it. Of course I will include some nice Fiddleback content to go with it.

Thanks for the input Phil. I agree with you but I also have a P89 9mm and a P345 .45ACP but I can carry the Glock 26 easier than I can my other autos. I love the conversion option.

Those are outstanding combinations, Dave! The GP100 w/ stag grip inserts and the bone handled Hiking Buddy are superb. My wife carried that same pistol (stock inserts) in her Bronco for years. What are your thoughts on the LCR? The Cimarron and Duke are tip top as well. If you ever consider needing a "no drill" sling for the rifle, let me know.

The LCR is a nice little shooter and I really enjoy it. It definitely has some snap even with just standard .38 loads. I had a little trouble with the unspent bullets "unseating" from the recoil. I later found out that it is actually a common issue with the LCR. It took a couple brands before I found one that didn't.

I carried a G26 for a long time and loved it but have moved to the XDS45. It's accuracy is quite impressive for its size but I do miss the capacity of the Glock. I haven't sorted it out yet but I'm working on drawing up an IWB holster with a sheath incorporated for the 2F skinny Karda in the picture.

Rick, I've been trying to get something drawn up haven't liked anything I've come up with. Basically before I found the thin scaled Karda I was going to use a design like the pictures below but replacing the clips with leather keepers the using a small sheath on the keepers so that my shirt would tuck between the sheath and holster. But, now that I've seen how thin the new Karda is I might move it to the leather back plate and conceal both. In the end I'd like to have the leather back plate remade with the sheath integrated and keep the kydex front mold. Have you ever done anything similar?

This post is for Dave (MajorD) as promised to show my Glock 26 9MM along with the Advantage Arms .22 LR conversion kit. The changeover process takes about ten seconds to change calibers. Remove the magazine, remove the slide assembly, attach the other slide assembly, and insert the appropriate magazine. I have been very happy with this conversion kit. It is accurate and reliable with Remington Golden Bullets and CCI Mini-Mags. I clean & lube after 150 rounds to keep it running smoothly.

I got one picture done before Jessie (a.k.a. “J-Dog”) came over to check things out and supervise.

Here it is with the .22 LR slide installed. The AA conversion kit comes with a factory Glock adjustable rear sight and standard front sight installed. I replaced the front one with a Dawson red fiber optic sight and I really like that set-up.

J-Dog approves of the Bushcrafter and Glock combo.

Good luck with your choice Dave, whichever direction you go.

Phil

Wow, that's impressive. I've loaded H4195 with 110 Seirra Pro Hunters but never with the success of yours. After seeing your group and with the trouble finding 6.8 ammo I should give it another shot. Have you checked velocity on the 10.5 vs longer? I was contemplating building another 6.8 and was planning on an 18" but may rethink that.

FWIW, I just spent a few hours on the HP Silhouette range at NRA Whitttington Center. I was firing a LWRC M6A3 in 6.8 with an 18" polygonal barrel and a Bushnell 1 X 6.5 scope. I was using Hornady Custom 120 Gr SST with great success. This load is consistently sub MOA in the M6A3. It was a very consistent shooter out to the 385 meter turkey silhouettes. At 500 the hits were less frequent. However, I was not doping the scope, I was just using the ranging hashes in the reticle. At 500 m, the 6.8 has a rainbow trajectory even with .400 BC 120's.

The Silver State 110 Pro Hunter TC loads fared less well. With those, beyond 300 m, I mostly just kicked up dust around the targets.

Only the finest:

A vintage Winchester 1885 (manufactured in 1903), chambered for the ultra rare 32 Ideal cartridge. A Wilson CQB. A brand new Fiddleback Lonestar.

That is a sweet shot, makes me want to get out the two Sharps and oil them down :) Love the look of that Lone Star also!

This thread needs revived! Anyone get anything they want to share over the holidays?
I completed my first AR build and scored this sweet jade Bushboot on 12/26 (also my daughter's first birthday)..
