Our "Front Porch" ....

Great story Rubi, I knew if you pissed off Alvin the chipmunk he would hire some muscle for payback! My daughter-in-law is from South Africa and they had Rhodisian Ridgebacks on their farm purposely to keep the lions from killing their domestic animals. I think the bear was more entertainment than an aggravation for Pete. From what she says once they are after a lion they don't stop until he is chased out of the country or is killed. Sort of like when a missile locks on a target, but without the abort button. Glad everything worked out, sounds pretty dicey up on that hill.

You raise a good point F.O. - I believe the Chipmunk community mave have put a hit out on me. Just this morning, walked out to check my "pools" and I came around the corner of the garage and who was standing there but Mr. Black
Wasn't doing anything (yet) Garbage cans are empty ..... He just stood there looking at me.
I turned around and left the A.O. got in my truck and left.

Couple days ago

That's one seemingly cuddly oso.

Looks be deceiving.

You need a can of bear-b-gone...ok, seriously....I'm wondering if some high-velocity OC or similar would keep the bears away???

Will make a fine fireplace adornment.

Or capture and train to ride a little tricycle while balancing a beach ball atop the nose...options.:)

Ok, that bear is officially a hazard to the safety and security of your family. Animal control it as desired.

I stopped getting too close when I was channel surfing one night and on one of the channels they had the Top 10 or 20 most Dangerous animals in North America so, I watched expecting to see the typical run down. It was getting towards the Top and the usual suspects had made the list Grizzly, Polar, etc. (No Chipmunks) but after the next Commercial #1 was going to be announced.
I almost dropped when it was the Black Bear and reason was most large predators will maul you to death and be done BUT the North American Black Bear will - Eat you! - I think that is going to far! Go all Jeffrey Dahmer on you, Yuck.
Thank God they don't have access to good Refrigeration - We'd all be freezer burn.

So do you have to call a state game warden or something or can you just dispatch it and use it as a rug? Seriously, you need to take care of this now as that last picture looks like he's sizing you up and trying to decide if he can take you...

I believe the last picture has been posted before? This is why I'm suggesting the Chipmunk gets a pass and little blackie gets some serious attention.

@Map...GW or Animal Control if it's possible to wait on them for assistance...but if the bear is an immediate threat; deal with it accordingly.

I actually feel very lucky to live amongst Gods creatures. I joined them, they aren't invading me.
I try and live with them the way I wish mankind can someday grasp - mutual respect.
Granted I will clock Mr. Black if he tries to kill my Friend...
I do not let chippy the monk pursue his vegetarian diet at the expense of my garden.
All and all we get along.

Well said Rubi, you have the circle of life going on, and yes we are on top of the food chain. Time to type up the memo and tack it to a few trees out there! Keep that Kill Zone maintained.

If I didn't live in the woods surrounded by Peace and tranquillity - my mind would have been jettisoned from the hole in my head long ago only to be mistakingly taken to some recycling center by a homeless man where he would have been told - "Sorry Pal, you shoulda picked up the can instead".
I drive Home each day and when I turn on to my road which bisects a Farmers field, I look to my left and my right and I feel the pressurized stress leave my body as I gaze out over the deer and birds and whatever crops Jim has growing.
It's why I work as well as, what makes it work.

This lil guy (Not Really ) wandered into our camp at the top of Blood Mountain on the last night of our App Trail hike. We started at the beginning of the approach trail and hiked to Neels Gap in 3 days. Awesome trip. Little blurry, but it was my first encounter with a real bear and the sun was setting so the light was bad. We were just sitting on that rock eating a few minutes before that and my buddy was dropping mashed potatoes all over while woofing them down and joking that the bears would love em. Guess he was right... :D

Yeah, He is easily in the 300-400lb category. Not a suitable lunch companion by any means, I can see why the photo might be blurry (and Brown for that matter) Big Boy.
We have a 600 and 800lb. in the area. IF they are still alive. The first time I saw the Big one He was in the middle of the raod one rainy dark night. Glad I was able to stop in time, hitting the brakes woke my daughter up, she awoke to him about 20 feet in front of my truck walking towards me then turned and literally blocked both lanes (No way around him) Close to record size for a black bear.

Yeah, he messed around with our food for about a minute and picked up one of the guys food bags. Mine is the green one up on the rock. Two other hikers came up and he was ready to go. Didn't run or anything, just turned around and calmly walked off. Crazy how comfortable he was around people.

They are comfortable with being Big and rarely challenged. Other than us - they don't really have much to worry about.
Goes without saying (You saw him) they are impressive if not intimidating animals.
First time I spent 10 days in the wild with the Bears I gained an appreciation for how ungodly Fast and agile an animal they are.
Run in burst speed 20-30 miles an hour, Climb a 100 foot tree in 2-3 seconds with a couple pulls from their front legs.
Impossible to escape one if he decides to attack and with front claws up to 4 inches long and the power to rip open a refrigerator with a swipe... as well as jaws that can crush bone - Best to give them a wide berth.
All that said, IF one is in my back yard - I find myself out and down the steps and I really don't know why.
If I could figure out how to post a videp off PhotoBucket I'd show you what I mean:)

I can get the link in and it shows as a video but I can't seem to get it where it doesn't simply show my entire Photobucket account.

Rubi, try creating a separate folder on PB, and putting the video in there. Set it to private. That should let us see the video without seeing the rest of your account. You'll also want the main folder set to private.
