Our "Front Porch" ....

From what I have seen Shane you definitely have what it takes to be a leader and you certainly don't skirt responsibility, good luck and wish you the best!

^^ Rubi, thanks for the kind words. You and I think alike in that regard, lucky for me my troops make my job easy ;)
Good troops have a way of making life that way. They deserve the best we have to give.
Speaking of what I know (Army) I hope you get 05 because for what I know, that puts you back in Troop Command, where Every good Officer belongs.

Rubi,

The best CO I ever had, CDR Roncska made it very clear during Change of Command that we were to be his guys, no one messed with us, and as long as we did our job, he would make sure we were taken care of. Then he put his money where his mouth was. Awards we had been waiting on for six months got handed out, Good Conduct medals people had been waiting on (some for over a year) started raining from the sky, and morale shot up. It was him and officers/NCOs like him that taught me that rules were important, but that people trumped them everytime, and that you take care of your guys before yourself because that's what you'd want your leader to do.

You made my night Alex.
That IS the job of a Leader - take care of your Men.
Everything else comes second. I am very happy to hear what you had to say.
God Bless

I wish you nothing but the very best in life (and work) Shane. You are a man of his word. Over the last few months we have have become friends over a common interest. You always have a kind and thoughtful word to say to the regulars and the newbies. You will only excel the higher you go serving our country.

Good Luck my friend!

It's a little different for the AF, Sq command is the goal of every O-5 who wants to make a positive impact. Unfortunately, there are a lot more staff jobs than squadrons. I'm a bit lucky, I've already done my FGO staff tour and exec time ;) I'm a flight/crew CC right now, probably fleet up to be the ops-O (we refer to that as the Director of Operations or DO) when the current one vacates. Hopefully after that (assuming I get promoted) I might have a shot at the boss' job in a couple years..

The bottom line - act like you give a s**t, and mean it.

Good Luck my friend!

Wow Chris, I'm humbled by that, thank you for the kind words my friend.

I must extend the same sentiment to you and many others that associate here!

The knives, as wonderful as they are, simply provide a catalyst of common interest for some great folks.

Wow! There has been lots of good things said here. Just makes me love interacting with you all that much more.

Shane, you deserve it man!! Hope the best for you brother!! Fingers and toes crossed

Best of luck Shane! I'm not much of a Hindu (at all actually), but every now and then karma seems like a real thing. I have absolutely no doubt you're very good at your job and if the amount of care and attentiveness you put into our work is similar to your family, you will hopefully getting a well deserved promotion!

Good luck Shane, I've never served, but I've been a shop steward for close to twenty years, and one thing I've learned about men is that respect is always mutual, and loyalty is way stronger than fear where leadership is concerned. Be true to your guys, and they will always have your back. But you probably already knew that ;)

Man, I love you guys!! :sorrow:

In all seriousness though, I have absolute respect for anyone who server in military, fire and law enforcement. My brother was a captain at the local fire department down here and while they played hard, they worked hard too and I respect him so much for enduring and continuing to endure the baggage that comes along with the job. Military and LEO, well, you guys do the job that only the brave step up to do. I admire you and with all the fake heroes in the world today, I constantly remind my kids who the real heroes are. It's you guys out there serving and putting your lives on the line daily. I think that's part of what makes the Hinderer community great is that it's full of real life heroes and just all around good guys. While I never served and am just a mere "fanboy", it's nice to hang out with heroes and a bunch of great people on this forum. I looked long and hard for a community in my hobby and walked away from many because of the crap people in it. With Rubi here to clean up the occasional riffraff that comes along, it's a place I can proudly call home :)

Great camaraderie around here. Great to see people come together around a shared interest and stick together like you guys do. Welcoming as well.

Hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable weekend. 'Winter Storm' warning here but what else is new. Gotta warm up sooner or later (I think)

^^^ Ugh, that sucks. It's 40 and sunny here, days are getting longer - 5 minutes/day!!

I am, however, waiting for the other shoe - I'm guessing it'll dump on us mid-May...
