Para-Military in CTS-204P

If I recall BBS also did a second run of the M4 Manix 2 Sprint Run.

Don't remember that, but you might be right? I thought they'd never managed to sell out even the first run, but I could easily be wrong, happens regularly. :o

Well according to Sal, the Spyderco Southard flipper with CTS 204p steel is in QC now. So obvisouly the issues with the steel are worked out. So that either means there is another issue with the green PM2 or they should be in QC as well....

Metallica actually did a song about the release date :p

At this point it's just pretty disappointing. I've waited longer than this for a custom... but that at least is understandable. It wouldn't be so bad if this wasn't my first PM2.

I've seen two folks go through this and my advice is this: never wait on an unreleased sprint/exclusive for your first knife (of any kind - but especially a Para-2).

The green will be my first PM2 as well, not a big deal for me. I don't really want another S30V knife, and the brown with S35V will probably not yield very noticeable differences in edge retention. On the other hand my Southard is still shaving hair, and that is something no other knife I own could accomplish through the approximate use I have put it through. Also, I have heard that the PM2 sprints/exclusives keep getting smoother and more refined in their opening/closing action. That CQI is something I will wait for, and I guess getting a Southard has helped tide me over quite nicely. If they come to me at the same time, I will have a dilemma every morning deciding which one I will carry :D

I'll just be glad when I get mine - it's going right to my dad. I'm holding out for the PM3 with LightSaber steel ;)

I think i would still have a hard time choosing between the para2 and the paraLightsaber 😄

Every time this thread gets bumped up, I think "YES!"

Then I open it and think "%$^@$^@%^&@%!" Well, you know.

There must be significant issues with either the steel or the supply chain to cause a delay like this.

The steel has to be available in quantities to make the knives to start with.

Then the testing and R&D has to happen.

Then take into count the production schedules of both the makers and Heat Treater.

Yeah, but these have already been made with multiple steels (from Crucible, Carpenter and Bohler) and the PM2 is pretty much a staple of Spyderco's production knives.

This actually got me to thinking - Sal is pretty quick to respond and act on issues he sees/hears from the forums and folks were complaining about uneven edge-grinds on a lot of the past Para-2s in various sprint runs (and posted pics of the edges in a lot of cases).

I wonder if Spyderco is taking care of those issues and that's what is causing the delay? Just pure speculation on my part, but it really makes you wonder when a company's higher-ups, qc, marketing, etc. are this closely tied to its customers (which is probably one of the most awesome things ever btw).

Same is true for Thomas/KAI over on their forum - very satisfied/loyal customers who have no issues spending our money on repeat business and maybe we're getting what we asked for.

BTW, have I mentioned how much I love the knife-community and BladeForums lately?

I just want my friggin knife, I waned a gayle bradley sold ot , but finally found one now they are gone, wanted a para 2 regular sold out everywhere finally found one now they are all gone , got another yo 2 now they are all gone.... They must be up to something up there but I need my dad gum spydie fix.

I've read about isolated problems but my brown PM2 and blue PM2 are both perfect and they are fairly recent production.

Nobody is admitting what the delays are. There was a mention of problems with the steel but I have confidence that Spyderco would have solved that problem very quickly after it was identified so I don't think that is a valid explanation of the delay. I've also read that they are working hard with production of the S30V models and that is likely the cause of the delays. They have limited production capacity and the PM2's are in high demand. I think they have been in high demand for at least the past 12 months which is as long as I've been watching them. I noticed people recommending them a year ago and saying how they could be found on the sales forum for good prices, but everytime I saw one it was sold almost immediately, and retailers were having a hard time keeping them in stock. It seems that we are in the exact same situation right now.
