Para-Military in CTS-204P

I would rather wait, then have a knife that is subpar.

I trust that Spyderco will not release a lower quality product. My PM2's are of very high quality. I find these discussions about waiting to insure a better product to be somewhat disrespectful of Spyderco. I think they have the ability to produce products with any of the more esoteric steels, and I think they can quickly resolve any problems. Justifying a delay of many months by saying Spyderco is working out problems is just not giving the company proper credit.

A veteran forum member on a Southard Flipper thread said he heard "spyderco would be running their cts-204p slightly harder than their m390 which is at around 60-61. By that logic, the Southard should be around 62-63."

Assuming this speculation is on target, I'm curious if this means the steel for the green PM2 will get the same HT as the Southard. I certainly hope so, and hope my Greenie will arrive early in the New Year.

I know Spyderco would not release a subpar product. My comment was directed to anyone that is complaining about the long wait times.

So is this normal for a sprint run? I am only wondering as I have seen people with the southard which I wanted and regret not getting when I had the funds but they are the same steel so why the delay?

I was just thinking about this knife yesterday. Oh well, I guess it'll be ready when its ready. Glad I've got at least a couple other knives to keep me happy til then. :)

Not knowing for sure the reason the steel was delayed, I wonder if Spyderco wanted to ship out one run of 204p at first and wait for the reaction before putting more into production. It wouldn't be the first time they followed that pattern; they do it when a brand new model is released, and moreover, they've had a few models recently receive complaints that meant halting production, so I wouldn't be surprised to hear they're being as careful as they can when it comes to anything new. If so, it would make more sense to try it with the production model over the exclusive PM2, both because of the nature of those as well as the fact they must have most of their supply of the steel in Taiwan.

And with that in mind, they'd have to wait for the Southard to be released and give it time for reactions before starting production on the PM2.

Again, though, this is all conjecture.

The Southard is a Taiwanese build. The PM2 will be Golden-built.

I consideration of this and earlier HT problems, it could simply be differences in steel inventories and production queues. Be patient.

Southards will always be available; I know I won't be buying one. I also know that I won't be selling either of these PM2s that I have on pre-order...ever.

I'll wait the extra time; it won't make a difference 20 years from now.

The steel on the Southard has been amazing. I touched it up once when it arrived and has stayed at the same level of sharpness after that for the last week plus. I'm used to doing a touch up ever few days but the Southard has needed nothing and it still is crazy sharp. Perhaps Spyderco needs to move the PM2 overseas because the quality is clearly a step above on my Southard compared to my PM2.

I think the PM2 is fine just the way it is. It wont be improved much if at all built in Taiwan perhaps build consistency per piece (ie. Southards locks all seem to be the exact same) but it is what it is. Southard's a $400 msrp knife, no wonder it may be considered a step above a PM2 in build quality.

Gee the Southard is only twice the price. The PM2 is a working mans knife and a damn good one no changes needed.
Btw I love my Southard I just wish it was made here

Make it here and that pricetag will be a lot closer to its msrp. Would be nice, and still worth it but I'm very content with how much it is right now. Can't win it all! Owning the USA models also like the PM2 makes it up!

I remember someone (not sure if it was sal) mention that it would cost twice as much if it was made in the USA. Also, it seems like the Taiwan maker has better F&F than the Colorado plant, no offense to the guys at Colorado. I'm sure a lot would agree on this.

I have not read though all 17 pages. Has there been a response from Spyderco regarding what the hold up is?

Was thinking about this the other day. Wonder if we'll get them before summer 2013? Any heads up from Sal on when we might see 'em? Thanks.

I agree on the Taiwan plant, my Gayle Bradley has the "Taichung, Taiwan" on the blade and it is a solid put together knife.

KW said Spyderco got the steel back in December, but not sure when they will get the knives made.

Maybe they'll get them made before the one year mark hits next month.

If anyone finds out anything from Spyderco please let us know.
