What a Blade!!!

I can see what all the fuss is about - this is a real knife! :D

The handle fits like it was made for my hand, the balance is just right and the heft is out of this world!

Here's a few quick pics - I've got more and will also take more.

Thank You, Dave!!!

I got my first BATAC today - Awesome knife! I thought I'd post a few shots for comparison. The light wasn't so good when I took these, but I'll be getting more.

Greg,

Graet pics but one question.

Have you used that thing yet??????????????

We want to see pics of use (but not abouse).

OK, I'll get some action shots! I've done some light chopping and cut a few small green limbs, just to check it out. What's amazing is that after doing all that, once it's wiped down, I can't even tell it's been used! I like the smooth coating, or what's left of it.

I believe that the coating was removed and then it was cold blued... but you're right... I do love it's finish.

Thanks for the pics!!!

We have a winner.
Part of the allure of the old A2 blades. :foot:
Cold Blueing provides protection and looks cool.

I should have known - you can smell the blueing. It's a little confusing, too, because there appears to be some of the original coating left on the butt and around the outside of the Talon Hole where it's chipping.

Yes some of the original coating is still on those parts.
Don't worry if it chips off as I'll be stripping the entire thing and cold blueing it.
Just enjoy it and shows us the pics.

A few more pics! I had a chance to put the SHBA to work a little out behind my house this weekend. Since I had some branches from a large limb that fell about 2 months ago, I decided to see what this knife could do.

There were no scientific comparisons; I just took it out and started cutting. First I chopped a little, and it was no problem to go through limbs 2"-3" in diameter. A rearward grip was used (with no lanyard), and the knife felt secure the whole time. No doubt the weight of this fatty helped tremendously, and it really seemed to chop like a much bigger knife.

After that, I batoned through 3 or 4 limbs, which was easy in the clear wood. I noticed no unfriendly vibrations in the handle, which is a concern with some knives. Several of these peices were split down to kindling size.

Next, I sharpened the ends of some of the bigger branches, simulating making stakes for securing a tarp or many other possible uses. I also sharpened several small sticks that could be used for hot dogs or marshmallows. No problems, it cut like a champ.

Throughout this, I was really surprised at how well the knife cut. I've used a few thick-bladed knives in the past that acted like what they were. This one is different - you guys that get to handle it will know what I mean. The way it's ground leaves a thin blade just above the edge, which is conducive to easy cutting. It gives it a certain grace that many thinner-stock knives don't have. Also, I should mention that after all that, my hands don't hurt! There are no hot-spots or blisters, which attests to the user-friendly handle design.

It would be nice to have one of these during deer season, just to try it out. I have no doubt that this baby could do just about anything you need, if it was the only one you had. Anyway, here are some pics. Thanks for looking! :D
