Photo of the new Mora Garberg full tang

Looks awesome.

But for $65-80, the Becker Bk16 looks more awesomer....
maybe I'm caught up in brand hype, i dunno. But unless this knife is something really stellar I'm gonna pass.

Ben nailed it with:
At the same time, if it was made by, say, Fällkniven, looking at the specs and price you have to admit that it's pretty reasonable, all told. But it does chafe people's concept of what a Mora is.

Can't say it any better myself.

Yes--the Basic and Pro models are quite popular, thought the Companion variants remain the best sellers. :)

Ah cool. I had a companion and gifted it to my father; excellent little knife and he uses it for pretty much everything...

I think they're crazy. I wouldn't pay 100 bucks for a Mora in 100 years, no matter how full the tang is.

LOL! Awesome. :thumbup::D

Morakniv just posted the info on their Facebook page. Looks like it'll be available with either a nylon or leather sheath, with the MSRP of them being $100 and $110 respectively. That means that you'll probably see street prices between $65-85 for the different offerings.

Well, that counts me out. Too much competition in that price range for me to get one of these.

That sheath is a key part of the price too. If this had their standard plastic sheath, it would be a lot cheaper. That basic style only costs ~$1 to produce, and the leather or Molle will be much more expensive. It's probably a $70 knife with a $30 sheath. Wonder if they'll ever put out a budget model?

Not my pic but I do have a 2000.

Cough cough... ;):foot:

There's quite a few budget Mora's already that should perform pretty much the same as the Garberg IMHO...

Maybe I'm just missing the value proposition on the new model. :o

65 to 100 bucks. No thanks. They have to add a bit more value to ask that price. Just because its full tang doesnt mean squat

There have of course been full tang models from both Frost's and KJ Eriksson in the past. Best known is of course the Lapplander series:

Something like the Audi Allroad, perhaps? You know, a Subaru Outback for people who wouldn't be caught dead driving a Subaru.

Interesting car; I had to look that one up...

I'll bet it's not cheap. I'm a subaru fan so Audi's not really on my radar. ;)

I think this might hit well in other places, just depends on what sort of knives its up against, and what their value propositions are. For example If I was to buy a Condor, by the time I get it shipped to me its lost a lot of that bargain flavor. I know that they have really upped their QC game, but even still, I'd be buying blind. With the mora, I have a much better idea of what I'm getting, and its possible that I could get it for a reasonable street price. Maybe, who knows?

For a lot of average folks it compares favorably with a lot of knives at its street price, even though there are a lot of great knives with a 85$ street price, there is a lot of junk, and not everyone is going to be looking for a beast. There is also a lot of price creep in that bracket, a lot of good knives spread out from 65$ to 100$ that add just a little for a few bucks more, it makes it harder to compare, since a lot of people are going to have a hard upper limit. If this thing does end up on the street at the 65-70 mark, it will beat out a lot of knives in a lot of people's minds. For some it will be favorable as far as weight goes. The REI crowd will likely be all over this.

I initially thought the asking price was too high. Then I noticed that the steel used is Sandvik 14C28N instead of Sandvik 12C27, and the sheath is better than the other inexpensive Moras. While $100 is still pushing it, if the street price ends up around $60-&0 range I can understand it.

Looks half way decent.

But Mora is working their way into a segment with lot of competition.

Maybe theyd be better off sticking to what they know; uninspired, but reliable cheapo knives, that loads of folks rely on.

A lot of knives today are TOO inspired to the point of being near useless IMO.

There is no need for a full tang on a knife. This is a grab at market share for all the people who've bought into the myth that knives need to be full tang. I'll stick to the old boring cheap ones...suckas! ;):p

I'll be fully honest in that one of the things that I love about Moras is that, as a rule of thumb, they're unashamed of being hidden partial tangs. They know that for the applications they'll be used for, even extreme ones, that their tangs aren't typically going to be the first point to fail--the base on the blade usually is. I usually look at hidden tangs as advantageous, since they make an excellent mode of altering the knife's balance.
