Please don't say I drank the coolaide...

Are you guys serious about buying a knife like that, then regrinding it and putting zip ties on it?

I know, right? CM should have asked you first before doing whatever he wanted to do with his property.

He can do whatever he wants. I can buy a Ferrari and immediately replace the engine with one out of a Corvette, but it might also earn some commentary.

And I really thought it might have been a joke. You'd think $850 would buy exactly the knife you're looking for.

Nice! Now it'll wave open AND actually cut stuff! Seriously, looks like the plan is coming together.

No... it won't "wave" open... but it will deploy upon draw with much clack.

;)

How is buying an expensive knife and having it reground by an expert craftsman the same as replacing the engine of an Italian dream car with one from a far inferior vehicle? Please explain this analogy.

Calling what cm does a joke is a joke.

In my time here, I've learned that CM is a guy with a particular aesthetic and personal taste. He has purchased the knife in order to fulfill a design vision he had when he saw it. And again, he's free to do as he likes with his property.

The good news is that CM strikes me as the type not to concern himself whatsoever with criticism.

Because modifying anything on a dream car is bizarre. It's a dream car! If you want a $500,000 car with a V8, why would you buy a V12 Ferrari in the first place?

Why is a knife that isn't ground the way you want or opens the way you want a dream knife? Couldn't a custom maker build a D2 Titanium knife exactly the way you want for less than $850?

Either way, this knife is arguably no longer a Medford.

And I didn't say what CM did was a joke. I was asking if the discussion about putting zipties on and regrinding a collectible high end knife was serious or not. I didn't see there was a second page when I posted.

Your analogy just keeps failing.

But you're right. I is now a CMFTW knife

All this knife - or any knife - does is cut stuff. Putting a zip tie on an $850 knife is no more wacky than buying an $850 knife to begin with. Both are pretty darn kooky. What I'm saying is that once you go above the price of an Endura (or whatever), it is no longer about just cutting stuff. Its about distracting your brain from the demons that live in there. Its about feeling awesome. And grinding and zipping a spendy knife make CM feel totally awesome.

Nice Arktika they are probably one of my favorite Medford designs.

Unless you believe that high end knives have a collector market value as well.

But yeah, everyone can do what they want (unless it involves Ganzo or Sanrenmu).

Time to let it go. Not sure why you're feeling roasty because CM did what he wanted to with his personal property, mang.

By the way, your analogy is poor, because LOTS of people modify high end cars. Incidentally, UGR and their two turbo monster Lambos are chuckling right now :D

Of course it's still a Medford, a Charlie Mike Medford! It's going to be way more collectable in the future!
Re sports cars, there are many Jaguars with chev v-8's. It's just to expensive and not worthwhile TO SOME FOLKS, to put a jag engine back in. Actually quite a few Rolls, and other older "fancy" cars and limos have crossbreed engines.
The car is still a jag.
What's better, a jag that doesn't work as intended, or a jag that now works as required?
Funny how many fancy pants can't think outside the box...
(Out of the knife box... Meeting Knife discussion requirement);)
Go Charlie Mike!!
