Please help.

Lol not sure if id take up a life of drugs and prison over a knife, but I'll give it a shot. Oh, and the reason my parents are acting whack is because I live like 1 or 2 towns over from newtown, which is where the sandy hook shooting happened. I bet if that had never happened we wouldn't be having this conversation, because my parents would have let me have a knife.

You won't have to give it a shot, because drugs/prison are veritably inevitable once the rebellion process begins. Be sure to ram that point home if you discuss it with your parents. :)

Lol I meant give saying what you did a shot, not giving heroin/murder a shot. [emoji23]

Oh, I didn't have to do any of it, because I had a knife from a very young age. It was a fishing town you see, knives were considered normal, and every kid was expected to know how to use them. Most kids got one by the time they were 11 or 12.

Condolences to the auto-correct generation.

I like simple things. I want to have been part of simpler times, when things were more relaxed and people worked hard.

This old bird is well into its forties now. Made in Japan back when that was looked down upon even more than the cheaper Chinese stuff of today. Looking at it now, the quality is really very poor. But as a kid, I thought it was pretty great. When I got older it did accompany me on many scout camps, along with a couple nicer knives.

So I stayed home sick today, and I was bored. As a surprise for my mom, I decided to sharpen all of the kitchen knives, because as I said, they're really dull. I live with my grandparents, my aunt, my parents, and 2 siblings. My aunt saw me sharpening the kitchen knives, and now thinks I'm some crazy murderer. She's giving my dad crap about it, and now we're back to square 1. They won't let me have the knife again, and my dad said not to get my mom the opinels. I was just trying to do something nice for my mom, and I got screwed for it. Ugh I just can't win :(
Sharpening kitchen knives made her think you're murderous? Again, I'm not gonna be disrespectful, but if I knew someone who reacted that way it would raise some questions in my head.

To go a little broader, isn't it amazing the difference in upbringing we can all have and still end up well adjusted? My dad started giving me Victorinox Classics and other small knives before I can remember, and I certainly was using knives as early as 5 (at least when camping).

Well yeah I said earlier that my aunt was a little off her rocker, but even my parents think I'm some crazy knife wielding murderer. I guess it's just because I live in a suburb where knives aren't "the norm". Well I guess in my town a lot of jobs I do aren't "the norm" either. I work a lot of blue collar jobs, while most people living here are white collar desk workers.

Well I best stay away from ct. They'd really freak out over my edc fixed blades lol

My grandad was allowed to edc a revolver around the farm at age 7. Times have changed.

Depends on where you are. I'm in a very small county in VA, and while we have our fair share of general idiots, a lot of people around here carry knives and guns.

[bold mine]
How in the hell does him sharpening the DULL knives that need sharpened translate to being play things? He wasn't out hacking up trees and bushes, he wasn't being irresponsible with them....

Maybe you need to get off your high horse looking down on younger members

Thank you!

So are you saying you have idiots in general or people who carry knives or guns are idiots?

His small county has a General Discussion forum... and a lot of idiots post in it.
