Does anyone have experience with the Doru 2030? As a lefty it's the one model they make for us "right minded" folks. Thanks
Not a bad watch as well.
I am not left handed, but I did try out a Doru. Everything was great like a Protech should be with it, but the handle didn't fit well with me. Also, and maybe it was the specific one I was handling, but the snap wasn't as snappy as I was used to on other Protech's I've handled.
I have a TR-2 and it is a great knife. Very usable blade shape. Light weight also. Hope that helps...
It appears that most of their sub $300 knifes use aluminum handles. Is this true and doesn't this make the knife look and or feel a bit cheaper than some other knifes that use other materials like stainless steel or titanium?
Yes, I believe you are correct - sub $300 ProTech's appear to all have aluminum handles.
Feel/look cheaper than stainless steel and /or titanium..I guess that would be a matter of personal opinion..? maybe others can chime in..
But, check out the Microtech Ultratech, and the Scarab, Troodon (and their respective prices)... those knives use the same material for the handle. I think the premise was to save on weight.
Maybe that's it, it's just that when I hear aluminum I think cheap.
I believe our F16's F15's and other jets that battles are fought with - are made of aluminum.
It's strong stuff. Guzzle down that Mtn Dew you're drinking.. now, set it on the floor. Now stand on it. From what I recall, aluminum is very strong, but generally in one direction. So, while that can is holding you up, if you touch the side of it, you will collapse it.
The ProTech's don't use the same aluminum in that Mtn Dew can though... Just like Glocks are not made of the plastic the keyboard we are typing on is made of
I hope you get a chance to check one out!
Maybe that's it, it's just that when I hear aluminum I think cheap.
Ok, good point. But normally that aluminum is referred to as aircraft grade aluminum like the aircraft grade aluminum in my Little Giant Ladder. Oops, I forgot all about my Little Giant Ladder. LOL
In general, I would agree with you. When I think of aluminum handled knives i think of Mtech or other flea market specials.
Protech (and Microtech for that matter) make very good use aluminum for quality autos. IMO, they do feel like a step up. Don't know if that is because it is a higher grade aluminum is used or just my own bias. I do wish more autos used materials like g10, but as it is, if you want a quality auto you are probably going to have to accept Al as the handle material.
Protech does us make great use other handle materials in the form of inlays. They can enhance the beauty or function or both.
Pro-Tech is the best automatic knife manufacturer out there, in my opinion. Here are two of my favorites (Magic and Brend 2):

I also highly recommend the Newport and, if you're in California like me, the Half-Breed, which is the handle of the Newport with the Blade of the Runt.
