problems with TheBladeShop ?

I just wanted to add my recent experience with thebladeshop.com to the record here.

On May 23, I placed an order for a Spyderco Kopa with giraffe bone handle, which their website listed as "in stock". They immediately charged my credit card, and I awaited further notification of shipping.

Well, the shipping notification never came, and eventually I logged into my "account" at thebladeshop.com to find that the knife was "on backorder". That's lie #1, baiting customers to purchase by listing items as in stock when in fact they are not.

I called the toll free number, and after a brief wait I spoke with an unnamed rep who promptly agreed to refund and cancel my order. The order showed as canceled on their website, and I waited to see the charge removed from my credit card. Guess what? It's 10 days later, and the charge is still there. That's lie #2. I'm not inclined to play the wait-and-see game with these crooks.

I've notified my credit card company to have the charges reversed, so it's no skin off my back, but I am going to report them to the BBB, the TN Division of Consumer Affairs, and the TN AG. What they do amounts to wire fraud, and they should answer to their local authorities for that.

That's shocking. Especially after dmc912 said it was ok.:)

Sorry for your experience though.

Hi, everyone. I'm new to the knife world, but I found the perfect opportunity to become a member of this forum.
I purchased a CRKT Razel a month and a half ago from the Blade Shop. Most of you probably know that back then the knife wasn't even out. I didn't and the prduct page didn't say anything about it.
2 weeks go by and I call. I'm told it's going to be out in a month or so. This was a present, so I couldn't wait that long, so I change my order to 4 other knives. The initial order was for $121 and now it was $6 more, $127. I wanted to pay with a different card and I told the lady there twice: "make sure you only charge me for the difference of $6". You can guess what happened next. I was charged for $127, the full amount, abd went over my debit card's limit, so I had to pay a $30 penalty to the bank, too.
I call right away and sort that out, but I am told that one of the knives will only be out in May and I have to wait 1 more day for another. They asked me if I wanted the 3 knives shipped together when the 3rd came in. I said of course.
A week goes by, I receive my refund(minus the $30 penalty) and 2 knives. I wait for another week and call about the 3rd. I'm told it will be shipped the next day.
Two more weeks go by and I call again. Now it becomes ridiculous: they tell me the 3rd knife is in stock, but I have to wait one more month(until June- ??) so the 4th will be in stock so they can ship them together. i forgot to mention that shipping is free for $125 and over. If I want the 3rd knife shipped right away, I have to pay a shipping fee and then another shipping fee for the 4th. I tell them to cancel it and just refund, but they tell me they will refund minus $6 shipping(after all they've put me through). The 2 men i spoke to were pretty rude, saying that they will not lose money by shipping 3 different shipments for free, when it's their fault for not saying anything about an item being out of stock and BS-ing me for more than a month.
After all this I accepted the refund minus the $6 shipping fee, but I'll never buy from them again.
I wonder how long it will take them to process that refund.
Sorry for the long first post :)

Almost 3 weeks later and still no refund. I've made a complaint with the BBB already and I'll make one with the Federal Trade Commission.
The usual thing to do is call them(again) but, after all they've pu me through, i think calling again is useless.

my first order with them went quite well....they answered the phone everytime i called and i had my tenacious and sharpmaker rods in about 5 days......there ok in my book

Thank you, everyone. I almost committed to a M21 in G10 because I could not find it elsewhere yet at a discounted price. Thebladeshop.com probably doesn't have it in stock either. What a headache that would have been.

I had not heard of them until I saw a sponsored link on Amazon.com. Glad I checked here. Let's hear it for google's site specific searches!

Me too.

They took forever and weren't forthcoming about being middle men that don't stock knives.

Eventually I got a refund.

They need to be more realistic, or at least tell people "We have no idea how long it will take to fill this order, it could take 6 months." Instead of saying it will take 2 weeks.

Actually, they are required by law to do this but clearly have not figured out how it is done.

I have delt with them and the knife I orderd was sent fast and was perfect... Of course I live 10 minutes away from them..

I have purchased many knives from them and got them all within a week or less, except one. I bought one knife which they won't get for another two weeks, I ordered it August 11th. So their only problem in my opinion is bad inventory.

tblock and hiss, I'm glad you haven't had the problems most all of the past 9 pages of this thread mentioned.

That said, when you play with bees................

Yah I posted this in another thread, but here it is. I bought a UT7 DE green microtech from thebladeshop.com and a couple days later they emailed saying that it was out of stock. So I asked them what they had in microtech's. They didn't have one ultratech DE, not one troodon, not one scarab, and only 3 models of ultratech SE's. So I order the serrated SE UT7 which they said they had 3 of. Low and behold 9 days later the UT8 shows up. Now the UT8 is worth $40-50 less than the UT7, and seems to be off less quality. So at least they delivered, but watch out!

The funny thing is that they advertise pages and pages of micrtoech's for quite good prices, yet don't have hardly any of them!!!

My experience with the blade shop. You can see the rest of this thread under general and autos.

okay. knives in hand. 1 perfect fit and finish makora with the holes in the blade. says 08/2008 on the pocket clip and comes with what looks like a glass breaker end and also a really sharp 4 point deal that i wouldnt want in my pocket. does that also break glass or just penetrate bone?

second, one ut8 . you guys were right. they tried to pull the fast one on me. I called and gave them an earful, but they dont have any 7's and im happy with this knife, so im going to keep it. has a silver clip and on the knife body says 05/2008.

Overall, my experience with thebladeshop.com was okay. I ordered monday and recieved today, thursday. Because I spent 700 bucks, I asked them for free second day air, which they gave me. they didnt ship till tuesday, however, so a bit of a delay there. The tracking information never did update on their website, but i was able to call wednesday to verify and get it over the phone.

When I called to complain about it being a ut8, they apologized and said it doesnt say on the outside of the box whether it is a 6,7,8 or whatever, which is true, so...whatever. These being my first microtechs im not savy enough to notice a difference.

The ut8 se will my edc, and the makora II will be for special occasions. On a side note, that makora is HUGE. oh, and the ut8 came with a case.

Thanks for the help. Cheers. *click click click click*

Yes I ended up being happy with my UT8 though I was disappointed that they misadvertised. Thebladeshop.com usually sends you what you buy, and overall I have been mostly satisifed with them. When they sent me my microtech order they made up some fake name like J& something garden.
