problems with TheBladeShop ?

About six months ago I ordered a black shallot knife that was 'in stock'. After waiting many days for shipping notification I called and was told that it was not in stock and that they would ship it when it came in. After asking when it would come in and being told that it could be several months I canceled the order.

It has now SEVEN months. I have now received a knife from them out of the blue. On top of that, not only does the packing slip not show who the heck i am dealing with but it shows as original order date of Oct. 3rd.

In talking to them and to the bank they are saying that I called and told them to refund the money (this part is true) until the item came in stock (this part is BS.) and are saying that i authorized them to wait SEVEN months to get and ship a knife. Meanwhile I ordered the knife through another company are received it and have been using it for months.

They are saying they have a 'note' from their salesperson saying to recharge me when it came it... Its a black shallot, how long have these been out?

freaking rediculous.

Oh, and of course the 'person' from their store demanded that I give dates and names of when i called to cancel....

I was just going to refuse the delivery but now i am not sure. A part of me thinks they will try to use this as another excuse to screw me over. "Oh, it never arrived. What was the tracking number you used...."

I hoped that they would straighten up after the exchange that the owner had with some dissatisfied customers on this forum. I guess not. I tried to buy a BM 9050 from them. I waited several weeks before giving up and contacting my bank and letting them handle it.

There are a number of reputable, efficient knife dealers on the web. Some have sites that will not take your order unless it is in stock. Their knives may be a few more dollars but its worth it, believe me.

Someone once made the observation that the knife you ordered from the Blade Shop is in stock somewhere in the world-its just not at the Blade Shop.

Good luck and let us know how (or if) it worked out.

Hi all,

I decided I wanted to get my hands on a Benchmade 40TR trainer Bali-Song knife so I went searching for a site that sold it online and had it in stock since I'd had no luck finding it locally. I checked many sites that listed it as out of stock and a few that showed it in stock until you got through to the final stage of the purchase and then zingered you with the out of stock notice. TheBladeShop.com seemed to show it was out of stock but was expecting it in a week so I went with them. This was early October.

Well the week goes by and I notice that the charge has been made to my credit card so I take that as a good sign that the knife is on its way to me. After a few more days with nothing in the mail I decided to follow up with an email. I get a nice reply back saying that the knife didn't show on the expected date and that it's gonna be another couple of weeks. Sucks but what can you do?

The new delivery date goes by and still nothing and my credit card is still charged. So I contact them again for another update and I'm told it'll be another couple of weeks again. So I ask why my card has been charged and they say that's standard policy. I told them it shouldn't be and to release the charge on my card and they agree to.

So now I'm still waiting, and the new shipping deadline goes by again, and still nothing from thebladeshop.com, and I have to contact them again. This time I'm told the knife just happened to come in the night before and that the shipment is on it's way that morning. While I hate that I'm the one having to manage the back order, at least it's on its way.

So I get the knife and there is so much play in the handles as to be useless as a balisong knife. It should have never made it out of Benchmade QC if you ask me. It's also missing a sheath which the Benchmade website says is supposed to be with it. So again I email.

I'm told, "The Bali song trainers do not come with a sheath." and that "If you feel the trainer is not up to par in quality, please contact BENCHMADE.". Those are direct copy and pastes including the capialization. So okay the website for benchmade may be misleading about the sheath. I can understand that. But to then tell me in capital letters to contact the manufacturer if I got a crappy knife through them is just icing on the cake. Apparently once it's out of their hands they wash themselves of any issues.

So my first knife purchased through them is my last. I did tear down the trainer and corrected the handle play to an acceptable level. Still not as good as my 42 but I may put new phosphor bronze washers in it to correct that.

Thanks for listening and buyer beware. And does anyone know for sure if the 40TR doesn't come with a sheath? It's not the money at this point as much as the principle.

As a followup...

I have been emailing back and forth with Elizabeth at teh blade shop and have gotten nothing but derision and sarcasm from her. This one took the cake though.

"Kevin,

I put then name of BENCHMADE in caps to discern it as a name brand..

I am sooooo sorry it offended you!

Sincerely,

Elizabeth"

Unbelievable! How much effort does it cost you to be professional?

Wow. I'll make sure to never buy from them.

It's obvious that this company doesn't deserve to get any business from members of this forum. They lack even the tiniest amount of business sense.

I placed an order for a sprint run spyderco (cpm-d2 para) I waited over a month an kept getting an email about every week saying that they talked to spyderco and they would have a new shipment of them in a few days, finally I got tired of their crap and canceled my order and ordered one from Knifecenter.com. It didn't take long to come in and I've been EDCing it everday since I got it about a month ago.

TheBladeShop :grumpy:
KnifeCenter

Add me to the list of unhappy customers. In stock and instant charge = bullshit. Same song and dance you all got.

same thing here. STAY AWAY FROM THEBLADESHOP.COM!!! they have so far ripped me out of $128 from an order made in November of 2008. Every week they tell me that my money is coming back and it will take a week so every week it doesn't call and every week I call again and get the same spill. It's a nightmare and I'm considering all options to get my money back. anybody got any ideas I'm all ears. I wish so bad that I would have read this thread before I did business with them. I'm telling everybody i know who's involved in buying knives, lights and gun accesories to stay far away from these crooks and thieves. These guys are the worst and it makes me fighting mad. I've never been swindled before. First time for everything but I get the retribution and a little bit of pleasure in telling everyone I know how much they suck!

Hello All,
I am Eddie, the owner of The Blade Shop. Let me start this post by apologizing for the trouble contacting us.
Eddie Loveday

The above post is from the then "owner "of "The Blade Shop" one year ago. Mr. Loveday may or may not still own the business. I believe the same nonsense was taking place a year before that.

The Blade Shop, based on the latest posts, arrogantly continues to take advantage of "mail order" customers because:

in many cases The Blade Shop has no reasonable basis for believing they can ship to you within 30 days...

when The Blade Shop cannot ship within the time promised or within 30 days The Blade Shop does not ask you if delay is ok...

The Blade Shop does not, without being asked, promptly refund all the money you paid for your unshipped merchandise. Maybe they refund eventually, but not promptly.

The Blade Shop aggravates customers because they make a point of charging your credit immediately, backorder or not, instead of charging when your order ships.

Right about now a few businessmen and businesswomen on this forum, (AG comes to mind) are grinning because unlike The Blade Shop management, we have some "mail order" companies represented here that "get it". Not only do they care about their customers (like AG does) they took the time to understand and implement how to "trade" properly.

It is painfully obvious the ownership of The Blade Shop and especially their "mail order" management do not get it.

I wish I would have read this before I ordered from them!

Here is what happened to me.....

I ordered two knives from them 16 days ago. The very next day, I received an email from them stating that one of the knives were on back order and would be available in less than two weeks and if I wanted to change the order or get my money back, I can just call them. So I figured I would wait because I was not going to start hunting again until after the holiday season.

Well, I called today for a status and they told me that "they were glad I called" because the knife on back-order was discontinued (nice of them to tell me!). So I told them to ship out the one knife and credit me back my money, which they said I will see in three days.

So, now lets see what happens!!

The only nice thing I can say is that they picked up the phone on the second ring and the woman Elizabeth was very friendly. I am so dissapointed and will never order from them again.

By the way, I switched my order over to Bladematrix. Fantastic place. I ordered from them a hundred times and never had an issue.

so I called up again and talked to "Brandon" who can't stay on the phone with me for more than 5 minutes because I hit him with the truth about how unethical his company is. He hung up on me once today but then when I got him on the phone again he started to tell me that THEBLADESHOP was the nation's second top selling company. I told him that was not true and that it couldn't be true because they are the most despised company on the forums and even after I hit him with this...

http://knoxville.bbb.org/WWWRoot/Report.aspx?site=57&bbb=0533&firm=90002040

...he just put me on hold and handed me to Will. :jerkit:
Will is completely disconnected from reality and just doesn't get it how important it is to a customer, who's been dealing with them for 2 mos, to get their money back. We just talked in circles that would end and start with "I just want my money back!" The people up there are idiots and crooks. And Elizabeth as nice as she may seem is no different. I talked to her today and go no where with her either. And Brandon told me something strange that thebladeshop was under a parent company called JEL Enterprises. I searched the company but didn't come up with anything tangible or seemed to relate to this freak monstrosity of a Business.
I'm going to be contacting the BBB and getting my credit card company involved.

J. Eddie (or Edward) Loveday, the owner, JEL Interprises? One in the same?

Well, if it means anything. The Bladeshop told me on the 13th that they shipped my knife and it arrived today in perfect condition. Now I just need a partial refund.

More to come............

Update on mine. I finally got my money back! yay! It only took 2 mos. and lots of phone calls and heated debate with Will, Brandon, Elizabeth and Eddie about what ethical business practice is and should be. They clearly don't get it and this is behavior that has gone on for years with them judging by this forum. I'm done with them and will continue to preach to everyone I come in contact with about staying away from them. Clearly those who have gotten their stuff on time, in my opinion, have just been lucky. But anyone who reads this even if they've had luck has to ask themselves and judge for themselves if it's worth it to chance it when so many like myself have had to fight so hard for just plain ole fairness.

Update, After 'returning to sender' I waited a few weeks then called again. I was told nothing had arrived. After stating the fact that I had already been in contact with the USPS and that the package was shipped etc. they were suddenly able to find it. They said I had shipped it to the wrong location (with return to sender?). Anyway we discussed the situation again and I was told I would be issued a refund.

A few days later I checked my back and I had been issued a refund, minus shipping. I called again to ask about this and was told that since I had ordered it and refused delivery that I would not be refunded the shipping price. I told them that I had canceled the order for that knife seven months ago and had, in fact, purchased two other knives in its place. To make a longer story shorter, I was eventually able to get a full refund.
