problems with TheBladeShop ?

UPDATE.

Well after a few less than, shall we say, nice emails, I finally got my order today.
(After weeks and weeks  )

I asked if I just needed to go ahead and start the chargeback process with my CC company and got a reply from Will stating that one of those knives I ordered is discontinued and asking me if I wanted the refund instead for that knife. Saying I should've got an email. That woman I talked to prior never bothered to answer again. The knife in question was a Cold Steel Kobun which can be readily found for order here and far from discontinued. http://www.coldsteel.com/kobun.html

Anyway, I said skip it (tired of beating a dead horse) and opted for a SAK Cadet instead along with the SUBCOM F I had initially ordered with the Kobun.

If anyone is wondering about the mystery of thebladeshop actually having a store front, mystery solved - they don't.

The address on the box that came today states:

JEL Enterprises
12220 Parkway Centre Drive
Poway, CA 92064

This is my first and will be my last transaction with this so-called business.

I'd advise others not to even bother to begin with.

Here's my final letter to thebladeshop.com, it speaks for it self:
thebladeshop.com,
I finally got the refund (5 weeks) for the Buck mini alpha I bought from you folks. I can't believe you folks charged me a restocking fee for a knife that I returned (with a RMA) because it was not the advertised item! I could see if I changed my mind or something but when I get something other than what was advertised (and don't put it off on Buck you folks failed to change the specific's on your web site) and then financially punish me for your mistake? That is what you call poor customer service and failing to take responsibility for one's own action's.
Please be advised that I am filing a written complaint with the Better Business Bureau along with a copy of this letter. And it's not the 20 dollars I'm concerned with, but the principle of the situation.

Looks like thebladeshop.com has been sticking it to a lot of folks, I've had similar experiences of almost all the complaints posted here so I know there true. My advice is why take a chance there is too many trustworthy and reliable dealers out there to bother with their BS!

blad3, they do actually have a store front. It's on Merchant's Drive in Knoxville. The reason your knife was shipped from JEL Enterprises is that the bladeshop doesn't stock much inventory, if any at all. They are merely re-sellers. They had your order drop-shipped from another dealer that had your knife in stock. This is what happened with my order sometime back (see my earlier posts).

However I do agree with you about not ordering from them again. I won't.

My Granddaddy used to say "Never try to teach a pig to sing. It just wastes your time and annoys the pig". After all the problems with these people, keep that saying in mind if anyone ever considers ordering from them...bunch of pigs they are!

I ordered from TheBladeShop.com on May 8 because their website was the only one that did not list the Cold Steel Safe Maker I as "out of stock." A week later I had received no email advising that the order had been sent, so I called them. Elizabeth told me that the order would ship the next day. Four days later I called again and talked to Will. Now this is interesting, before answering about the status of my order he said he needed to "consult the notes." After that, he said the order shipped late in the day that Elizabeth promised it would (May 15). So for the next several days I watched for the mailman so the package wouldn't be sitting on my carport.

Nothing. Today I Googled "thebladeshop.com" and "complaints." I found this thread on the problems people have had with this vendor. So, first I called my credit card company and put the charge in dispute. Then I called the Blade Shop and got Elizabeth. I told her to cancel my order. She put me on hold and when she came back on she told me that the order shipped last Friday, May 18, and that they will deal with my credit card company to get my payment. I told her that I could see no reason to believe that my order had been shipped given their deceptive practices, including telling a customer that an order had shipped when it had not, and that they better not ship me the order weeks from now because I will not accept it. She refused to acknowledge that the Blade Shop has a bad reputation online.

What these people are doing borders on criminality. If they ship an order after cancellation, that's fraudulent. I foresee weeks of hassle to get this matter closed. It is not worth dealing with a merchant that operates like this, not to "save" a few dollars. Take your business elsewhere.

I will keep you updated as to whether I receive the order, and when, or whether they lied about sending it on Friday and accepted my cancellation. One thing that's obvious, anybody operating like this in a real store front would go out of business or get a whipping, or both.

There is no reason for anyone to deal with companies like TheBladeShop. They obviously don't stock much, if any inventory, and have wholesalers drop ship for them. There are plenty of good dealers that carry their own inventory, ship quickly, communicate well and don't lie to their customers.

After 9 pages, you'd think people would learn. They have very little stock, if any, and rely on drop shipments from other vendors. That's why your knives, if and when you get them, aren't from the Bladeshop in TN. Same reason they can't give you any updates on your orders. They have no idea what's going on with your order.

It'll be a cold day in hell before I even THINK about ordering from them again, bunch of lying SOB's...I'd love to see them out of business...they give others a very bad taste for internet ordering.

On the other hand, there are some excellent on line stores. I ordered a Kershaw Mini Cyclone in the TiZDP189 on Friday, and it was on my doorstep on Monday. Can't beat that for speed! FYI, it was the Knife Center Store in College Park MD.

After I posted here yesterday, I used Blade Shop's onsite email to tell them that if they did not cancel my order I would write to the Tennessee Attorney General and request an investigation of their manner of conducting business. That worked. They cancelled my order. So, when they told me that the order shipped last Friday, it was a flat-out, bald-faced, premeditated lie. The third one that they told me in the three calls I made to them.

Here is the pertinent question: Does Google have any procedure to identify, and refuse to run ads for, a business that has a record of deceiving and abusing customers? I know that you can "rate" a Google advertiser, but does Google do anything with the information if there are large numbers of poor ratings for an advertiser.

The Blade Shop has the most prominent sponsored ad for many Google pages that come up when a knife manufacturer is googled. Without that spot, they would dry up like the puddle they are. Give me some ideas here. Does Google have an advertiser-screening team? How can I find it? I would like to see what their reaction would be to this thread and the Knoxville Better Business Bureau's set of complaints.

And thanks to everyone on the thread who suggested reputable vendors. After my cancellation was set, I called NewGraham and ordered on the phone. As I told the young lady each item I wanted, she apparently went to a storage bin and picked it up. Now there you really know the item is "In Stock." She said they will UPS it to me today.

When TheBladeShop tells you the item is "IN STOCK" it is, it is "IN STOCK" some where in the world, just not at TheBladeShop...

I ordered two machetes from TheBladeShop back in October and after three phone calls, three emails, and a hair over 5 months they arrived.

I wish this thread had been around back then ;)

Sounds like a fun place to order.

I ordered a knife there over the weekend. I called on Monday to change my order, no problem. I also requested a 2 day delivery. Approx. 4 days after this call, I got a call from someone saying the order had been misplaced and if i wanted it by the weekend to do "Next Day Air Saver", well I did, and I got my knife in tact and in good condition. But it cost me an extra few phone calls and $15 for next day air WHICH THEY SHOULD have covered. Won't be ordering from this place again.

The 800 number, when you get through to them, seem to be helpful and polite. JFYI

I just wanted to report that I have had an excellent experience with The Blade Shop. Once I got an order canceled from them after finding out that one item was on backorder. Their customer service seemed really good and helpful. I recently made a purchase from them, and it only took four days for my order to reach my door. I actually asked while my order was processing for more details regarding its progress (mainly due to the fact that I found this thread). To my surprise my order arrived the next day. Maybe they have gotten better?

Anyway, I'll give them a  for the good service.

I'm glad you got good service. but there's no way in hell a rational person should order from this place given it's history.

Also back about 5 pages or so was idscussion about putting them in hall of shame. Now that we have a hall of shame, I would think this thread would qualify.

Alright I'd like to say a few good things about thebladeshop I have just recieved my second order from the place and I am extremely satisfied with not only the product but also the shipping and order/shipping confirmation.

A few weeks ago I ordered the Kershaw Blur from thebladeshop, this was before I saw this thread. A friend knew I got it from there and knew I was thinking about ordering more from their site so he gave me a link to this thread. Anyways I believe I ordered it late on a Friday and I received it the following Tuesday. So it took about 3 business days to arrive, and I ordered insured UPS, nothing to fancy.

Then about a week ago I order the Benchmade Mini-Rukus from thebladeshop. I saw this thread and was kind of disturbed by some of the posts but I had a good experience with my first purchase from them so I decided to have a little faith and try again. So my purchase was over 125 dollars or what not so I got free shipping. I was kind of pissed to have my knife coming through the USPS instead of UPS because whenever I order things through the mail its always slow as hell. But I still ordered it and it was late on a Friday again. I just received my purchase, and it only took about 4 business days to arrive and it was though USPS at that.

So I just want to say that I have had nothing but good customer service so far and I will continue to buy from them until I have a negative experience. I am sorry to all of you who had bad experiences but I hope that this will assure people who have not ordered from them that the site is alright and can be a great place to purchase knives. So give them a chance.

-David

How long have you worked there? Dealing with someone who has burned others waiting for them to burn you doesn't make much sense. And you're the first person you should blame if/when you get burnt since the warnings don't seem to matter to you.

First post, huh? Are you employed by them or what...I don't care if you buy 100 knives from them and all of them get there within 24 hours. They will never get another penny out of me. No, the site is not alright. The place has problems: a poor site that doesn't tell you if an item is "in stock" or not and even if it isn't you are billed for it immediately, the owner and employees have been caught lying to the members here, and all of this has been well documented in this thread. So no, I choose not to give them a chance, I already did, and they screwed it up.

Good luck to you David in the future. Don't say you haven't been warned.

How long have I worked there wtf kind of question is that? I'm sure they don't try and burn people. They just make mistakes, I'm sure you've made mistakes. I wasn't trying to get people who have had bad experiences to buy from them. I'm saying that I among others have not had problems with them so it is unfair that people who have had negative experiences persuade other people to not even give them a chance.

Well, that is what these forums are for. To keep each other informed of what's going on out there. Making mistakes is one thing...lying to a forum of over 100,000 knife buyers/collectors/makers/dealers is a completely different story. That's all I have to say about it. ThankyouverymuchGoodDay.

It's the kind of question that an employee or someone associated with them would get mad about. You may not be one but you are coming across as a shill. I'll apologize if I'm wrong but I'm not thinking I am at this point.

ps. Welcome to BF.:)

When and what did they lie about?

Even if I wanted to be an employee I couldn't I'm 17 and a Junior in high school, believe me or don't, I really don't care.
