QTRMSTR Knives being sketchy (screenshot photo)

Well crap... I just ordered this very knife last night. It was an impulse buy, saw it on the BladeHQ instagram feed and was hooked. It checked all my boxes, decent blade material, wharncliffe, relatively simple design, like the looks, at the top of my price range but doable. It looked like a limited run(pic of blade showed _of 300) so I pulled the trigger. Having never heard of the company, this morning I decided to do some research. Crap! You ruined it! What a joke! This guy is insane. There's no need to be this shady unless, well, you're shady. Crap! This is the only knife they produce that is even remotely attractive. Calling bladeHQ to cancel when they open... *grumble grumble*
I'm a novice compared to the rest of you. I own a few Kershaw Blurs and some ZT stuff. Nothing crazy and nothing north of $200. This was unfortunately eye opening. While I'm currently dejected, I'm glad I always do my research, even if after the fact. i'm also a new member as of this morning. Thanks, I think.
I figure maybe one of you can recommend a suitably sexy wharncliffe replacement? Off to browse. -Dave

You can always sell it on the bay.
You're right, though, about BF. Any question I ever think of about a knife, a steel, a manufacturer, or anything else blade related...someone else asked it here and a bunch of knuts shared their experience and knowledge on the subject. Love this forum.

If you got it from Bladehq, I'd cancel the order, or just send back and get a credit.

UPDATE!! Apparently "Q Collection" members can arrange for tours of their Texas factory:

So, who here's gonna do it? Or at the very least, who here is going to track down an existing "Q Collection" member and get them to try to arrange a tour of the so-called factory?

I can see it now, you go there expecting this:

And get this:

If I buy a QRTRMSTR and become interwebs friends with Mad Blacksmith so I can join the Q-Club do I get a secret code name like Old Dirty Munchkin?

Jared is a good marketer, a unique knife designer and a resilient businessman.

I don't agree with a lot of his strategies and I don't like any of his designs but he certainly knows how to capture dollar bills from the majority of the knife buying public (albeit the BudK section)

One thing that is required to keep an organization such as qtrmstr alive is new communication channels - IG has proven to be a lucrative one. Tons of syndicates that band together to outright sell advertising or share exposure on IG with little transparency. And even more uneducated young folks with high discretionary income that get taken hook line and sinker.

The bottom line is there will always be fish and there will always be fishermen.

We can have this discussion over and over but the CKF and the QTRMSTR and the etc etc are not going away. Perhaps REATE will overcome the stigma of China and ppl like Jared will quit investing the time because frankly keeping up the lie isn't worth it....but until that time, we'll get to keep on bitching about it here at Blade Forums.

I canceled the order yesterday. I do love the look of the knife, but I just didn't feel right dropping $220 on it. Too many questions. Even if it's all a conspiracy theory. It just didn't feel right. I don't usually impulsively buy anything, I try to do my research. But that thing got me hook, line, and sinker. Call me a dreamer, but I'm the type to buy US made when I can, even if it costs me a bit more. Even if his knives turn out to be US made, his business practices leave me looking elsewhere.
That being said. I'm still trying to find a replacement purchase. Looked at Emerson, Sebenza... Still looking. The fact that this thread still has so mich traction speaks volumes to my decision to cancel the order.

I actually have some free time so I called a few of them. I was highly disappointed that the answer they most often gave me was and I quote "they sell." Rather disappointing when you look at wanting to trust these companies that are paying to be bladeforums sponsors, to get what you're actually paying for. It's not an issue to me as if they sell well or not.

Encourage everybody to continue to call as well. I can't stand this company

What is that like the Mantis army?[emoji1]

And when it's all said and done, knife dealers care about selling knives, because that's what keeps the lights on and the paychecks from bouncing. They could carry any number of knife brands whose products, right down to every last component, are 100% made in America and very reasonably priced, but if those products don't sell, they'll get dropped. Meanwhile, if a brand known within the "hardcore" knife community to have dubious ethical and professional practices somehow becomes popular and this results in great profits for the dealers, they are going to continue carrying the brand. From a business perspective, if the sales numbers indicate that most customers don't care (or know) about a brand's background and reputation in better-informed circles, there's very little reason to seriously consider dropping that brand . . . unless a vocal minority starts dragging those dealers' names through the proverbial mud. For things to reach that point, will people willingly look to hurt the sales of reputable dealers simply for carrying one "shady" brand?

Until people start getting injured due to failures caused by poor workmanship or misrepresented materials, I just don't see dealers dropping the brand. The "Made in America" sentiment just isn't strong enough on its own, so proving that the knives are made anywhere but America still won't sway a good number of people.

All good points

Truth is, most people don't care about the personal ethics of the people behind their favorite brand names.

Most of the bros who were wearing "Famous Stars & Straps" t-shirts 7 or 8 years ago have no clue if Travis Barker is a gigantic a**hole or not, they just know that brand is "cool" and popular and the design appeals to them, so they buy it.

Say what you will, but I can't count how many times I've wished I had more than one thumb stud on a knife! Finally, a knife with options for tactical operators who have no desire how well the knife feels, like me!

I might take them seriously is they actually don't spell their name like a middle school emo kid texting.

Why can't I find the thread where Jareds dad (owner of mantis knives) talks about how his own son (Jared) stole his mantis-designs and called them QTRM5TR designs? If I recall correctly, his father even said that Jared stole money from Mantis Knives in order to start Quartermaster. I think he was even being sued by his own dad!

I know I can't be the only person that remembers that thread...
