RAT Cutlery Announces Name Change

With all due respect this blows! I better run out to eBay and grab that RC-5 plain edge before someone else does. Can't find them in any sites online. :grumpy:

I'm going to miss the old name, I really liked the skull and crossed knives/ESEE logo, more than the new one, having said that I still love the company and products and will be a customer and supporter for life.

Now I just need to get some older logo stickers made and cover my laptop with them.

If I may, I would like to suggest a new name for the Rat pack, when the time comes, The Skull and Crossed Blades, yes very close to the Skull and bones but reminiscent of the ESEE Skull logo. Doesen't roll of the toung but it sounds cool!

Either way Congratulation on the change and I look for ward to seeing and supporting ESEE in the future.

Thanks Dizwolf,

They didn't have them last night. I want one that says RC-4 or RC-5 not that ESEE Pirate logo. I'm glad that most love it. Just sayin...

hmm, I got a little worried when I initially couldn't find this subforum in the manufacturer's area. Name change makes sense to me, although you guy swill take a hit on the marketing investment to date. However, I can understand the motivation. It was also always a bit confusing with the swamprats calling their products rats etcs.

Hopefully the dealers won't be balking. After all they are the ones that really depend on that name recognition to sellers. Plus there is brand name/links to change in their websites etc. I bet creating a two sentence explainer for them to include with their catalogue items will help.

I really dig my ESEE/Rat Cutlery knives....however logos and colors were never critical to my decision making process. Hell, when they first hit the market I bought a Smith and Wesson Model 60 Ladysmith, complete with "Ladysmith" laser engraved on it. Bought it because out of the factory (not the Performance Center) it had the best trigger and front sight that S&W produced at the time.

Jeff and Mike... Best of Luck with all of your future endeavors, whatever the label may be!

Thanks for all your hard work!

I fully understand the rationale behind the branding change and am still solidly behind the knives and the company of course, but I infinitely prefer the old name and logo! (The triangle, not the skull which in my opinion only works if you are a teenager or some wayward biker but otherwise cheapens the look of the product-like those cheap "ninja" knives stores next to bad tattoo parlors)! I am sooooo glad I have the RC-4 and the Izula!

Not really a fan of this at all. I don't know how to say the name at all. Esay? EC? Essy? Essay? Also I'm not too sure about having 2 languages in the acronym. When someone asks me what it stands for I'll just have to give them the general idea of what it means.

Scored an RC-4 last night before the old logo ran out at my online source. Just got another Izula this morning too. Bold business strategy guys.

In two weeks they better not say "we changed our minds"....lol...my luck :D

The RC-3, RC-4 and RC-6 logos will change to the new triangular ESEE logo, not the skull and crossed knives (logo shown below). The Junglas, Lite Machete and RC-5 will continue to use the round logo with the skull and crossed knives. The Izula line will continue to use the ant. So, the only thing going away is the currently RAT Cutlery triangle logo - being replaced by the new ESEE logo (shown below). The name is pronounced ES E (with a long E sound). Say it like you are saying two letters "S" "E", not "easy."

NOTHING IS CHANGING EXCEPT THE NAME AND LOGO. ;)

We will be getting new images up soon on the web site that shows the knives with the new logo. We still have quite a few with the old logo in stock so this change out will take some time. Nothing to get excited about. If you get a knife with the new ESEE logo (shown in the post above) then you are getting EXACTLY the same knife as you would get if it had the RAT Cutlery logo on it. Pricing, quality, manufacturer, design, warranty, etc. are all exactly same. This is simply a name change, nothing more. Even though we were the first to ever use the name RAT on a fixed blade knife and have priority over everyone else, we are simply TIRED of the confusion in the industry so we decided to take the high road, make the name change and rebuild the brand so there is no confusion.

New Year ,New Name, same crew ready to help the customers get thru the name change...Same great product just different logo...

We are still and continue to be Randall's Adventure & Training and the abbreviation to that is R.A.T. That has nothign to do with knives since it's all about survival training.
