Sounds like a good excuse to de–assist!
 
I pre-ordered one a few months ago. Unfortunatly I am going to have to cancel my order. My wife and I redid our budget and I have other things to pay for that take more precedence. Oh well, I really wanted one too. Maybe I can pick one up at a later date, but to be honest I'm just not that excited about it anymore. I'm starting to think that I'll just stick with my 0550 and be happy. If it didn't take this long to release, I'd probably have one by now. I'm not saying that to blast KAI, they have their reasons for doing things the way they do, it was just to long of a wait for me personally.

No one is criticizing the product, they are questioning the company's shipping strategy. Kai gave 3rd quarter as a rough estimate and they actually went out (granted it was internationally) on time.

Kai had been feeding us a very steady stream of knives recently. The black wash knives, the 0801, 0777s, 0600 have all come out in the last few months adding with almost all of the new Chinese kershaws.

I can't speak for the company but maybe they sent the first run over seas to give us a break on our wallets...

Either way, they are coming, no point in crying about it. Kai debuting a new knife and delivering most of them in less than a year is pretty impressive for them.
 
You whiners just shot yourselves in the foot. It's best to leave the business to KAI and just be excited when new knives come out. KAI is hitting home runs lately, not counting the 0888, 0454.
 
Hey Ruudr, whats your thoughts on the knife after one month? How is the pocket clip holding up? Have you had to sharpen it yet? Post some pics up if you can.

I really like mine. Its been in my pocket for about a week now. The knife has a very nice heft to it while noticeably smaller than the 056x. Blade perfectly centered, good lockup, and I really like the fine textured G-10. The SpeedSafe is nicely tuned for the blade size.

Looking forward to newer versions of the 0566 with carbon fiber and different finishes and so forth. Congrats to the few that have already received them.
 
the knife is great guys!
razor sharp out of the box.
i thought and hoped it to be a little smaller but it's ok.´
the only thing that's bugging me a bit is that it takes a bit of force on the flipper to deploy the blade.
i sent an email to KAI asking if it can be de-assisted or not.
i believe it's the speed safe that is making it harder to open.
if they say that it can and that it doesn't void warranty i will take it out and then let you know ;)
 
As far as I know, all Speedsafe knives can be de-assisted. Whether they already have a detent (to engage the ball bearing in the lockbar) to allow for manual flipping and blade retention, is another matter. Not terribly difficult to add one, but is a bit more labor intensive than simply removing the torsion bar is.

I do not know if the 566 already has a detent. The Thermite did not.
 
I really wish they just made the 0566 without any spring assist. Everyone says that ZT and Kershaw are easy to de-assist by just removing the torsion bar so I guess it is not that big of a deal. I do feel like KAI over does the spring assisted even though I use to really like assisted knives. Just would be nice if they made a manual version. I like the manual 0200 military folder they have. Manual or auto seems to be my route nowadays instead of spring assist.

ok but does it void warranty?
 
KAI stated earlier in the yr that it will have a detent and is able to be de-assisted. Somebody already posted, in this thread I believe, that they de-assisted it and it worked fine. I highly doubt it will void the warranty due to the fact you can put the spring back in if needed.
