Regarding IDIOT tester.

On my observation some losers are so desperate to get at least some attention so they start attacking someone who well deserved and attract attention of many for good reason, for bringing something into community. They get what they want for some time, but I just update my ignore least and move on. Noss do not pay attention to this really, you should not be angry on them if you know what it is and why, you should be sorry for them - at least I am just sorry for them.

Thanks, Vassili.

you have the tendency to be one of the most condescending posters on bfc, and i find this post particularly ironic.

i think noss' tests are very entertaining, but by pretending they are scientific you are only fooling yourself. i have watched most of the destruction portions of the videos (when the blades actually break), and i will watch whenever he puts up a new vid.

but even noss says they are not scientific, at least i believe, in the traditional sense.

I snared a couple last night. I put up a sign in front of the house, "wimmin an' likker in here". Neither way seemed to work, all they did was flail. I think the only way to sharpen them is to send them back to school.... Now if you'll excuse me, I have a wet clean up in the garage.....

Flailing can be cured with more duct-tape. That and barging into hospital examination rooms dressed as a zombie (drink or living dead).

Sorry it didn't work.

vassili,

pretty soon you'll have the whole bfc community on ignore.

then you'll just be reading your own posts and responding to them.

that'll be a hoot.

I am not sure what kind of people you are dealing with here, but for 5 years being on Blade Forums I did not put too much in my ignore list, just few.

Thanks, Vassili.

wanna compare ignore lists?

ill bet mine is smaller than yours!!!

And what are you famous for?

Thanks, Vassili.

I think he is implying that because he is famous and you are not, he has more people who are jealous of his supreme awesomeness and wish to attack him, thus he needs a bigger ignore list, lest his delusional foundation be shook...

Wow! All this time, I didn't know Seinfeld did knife testing!

Keep up the good work Noss. I appreciate knowing what a knife can really take/not take.

He's famous for being one of the good guys, in my book at least!;)

Being good guy does not expose you to losers I was talking about which are desperate to share attention at least by personal attack. So if you do not draw attention by let say reporting test results which may destroy some hype, then you are safe. What the point to compare length of ignore lists in this case?

However as I sad for so many years I have not too much people here who turn discussion from original subject to personal attacks as I sad just a few, so ignore list take care of this just fine. And this is what I suggest to Noss, no point to fight someone who get personal, usually you are no match to this kind of people, because they are focused on this kind of things, they are experts, as well as Noss is expert in testing.

Thanks, Vassili.

He is doing crash-test! One of most important test in many industries - car, avia, etc... Of course it is not whole knife story - there are many other thing you may value, but it can not be rejected because crash-retention is one of this values as well as edge retention...

But no one but Noss ever did this before with scientific methodology and with video etc. In general this is most well done testing so far I see. And do not forget that this is hard work - he almost injuring himself!

Thanks, Vassili.

There is more scientific methodology in any one of those LA tequerias than in this "knife testing".

You like to break knives--no problem. Whatever floats your boat and all that.

You can break knives and call it science, but that is like breaking wind and calling it music.

Well this is colorful example, but in computer Quality Assurance there is special discipline called stress testing, as well as in Car Industry there is crash testing. There are huge labs with installation to test in high vibration, humidity and temperature - in many cases this is required by customers, especially military etc. So for some reason nobody came up with this colorful comparison.

I just can not imagine someone stnding near this stress labs saying - "...that is like breaking wind and calling it music..."

What about huge cyclotrons breaking atoms by bombarding them with high speed electrons? Is it also - "...that is like breaking wind and calling it music..."

Geologis as well breaking a lot of stones and what - "...that is like breaking wind and calling it music..."

No, I do not think so.

Thanks, Vassili.

LMAO. Words to live by. :D

Apples and oranges. The examples you give typically involve very carefully delineated methods. They have a variety of controls built into their tests. Forces are measured and maintained. Moreover, researchers collect reams of data after a crash/failure/destruction. Multiple tests are conducted. Averages are computed. Statistics compiled. The idea, in part, is to be able to predict when a failure will occur with some precision.

noss4 is breaking knives. He does some of the same things with each knife now--better "methods" than in the past. But he's still just breaking knives. It's qualitative investigation perhaps. Case studies maybe? However, most would not describe what he's doing as science.

How many scientists do you know who wear hockey masks to work? :D
