Recommendation? Resolve dispute over sharpness?

Mods: I’m sorry if I’m posting in the wrong place. I thought this would be the best sub forum to get an answer.

Thanks all
You posted in the right place.

L lennonnyc you were viewing this thread 5 minutes ago, you actually filed a PayPal claim because the knife wasn't sharp enough to suit you... that was your only reason ?

Liquidedna Liquidedna Starting a flame thread to resolve a PayPal dispute? Seriously? I had the knife in my possession for less than an hour. I've been looking for a Hellhound Ultratech for a long, long time and was very excited to find one.

This knife cost over $300 and it's as dull as a butter knife, when you email a seller of a knife advertised as "barely used" to let them know there is an issue and they just tell you:

"I just checked the microtech website and they recommend sending it to them for sharpening.
Anyway, sorry to hear about that.
Take care"

To not completely void the warranty I would have to send it to Microtech to have it sharpened (a 3-6 month project) you better believe the next step is filing a claim with PayPal to get it sent back.

I hope none of you folks receives an out-of-the-box-useless knife and the seller tells you to go pound sand and deal with it on your own on your dime and you don't wind up getting quoted on a forum for the seller to pick up sympathy.

Wow that's just BS and it ruins and it makes sellers gun shy of new guys like me with no feedback yet. Lame

I've been buying/selling/trading on eBay, Reverb.com and the 3 main Guitar/Amp forums since 2001 and have never encountered a single issue with over 400 transactions - it blows my mind that there are folks who think sending out a totally dull knife is A-OK and must be the buyers issue because they are new to this particular forum.

Hell, I've bought a few $500 CRKs and Hinderers that were dull out of the box, this DOES NOT mean that it's useless. Learn to sharpen a blade. Knives come dull from the factory all the time. Another to add to the "ignore" list. You should have contacted the seller and worked out a return based on good faith and trust. Paypal claims are for when you can't get any resolution from any other means.

Simple question. Do u think the knife was used and listed as unused? Or is it the factory edge that is too dull for you?

It could barely bite into a piece of printer paper - despite what all of the holier-than-thou'rs here want to claim, getting a $300 dull knife isn't an exciting challenge and opportunity to "learn how to sharpen a blade" because they used to walk to school up hill both ways.

Agree that is a pretty petty reason and not to mention this behavior makes it harder for me as a newer member to make deals when crap like this causes long term members to be on edge!!
I’ve gotten plenty of $500 and up knives and you know what? When there dull YOU SHARPEN THEM!!!!
Thank you for making it harder for us newer members you jack***

I wouldn’t get within ten feet of any knife where sharpening it voids the warranty. Especially if that company takes 3-6 months to sharpen a knife. What the heck are these things for? I touch up knives every day if I use them much at all.

If it’s for cutting stuff it’ll need sharpening, so the buyer was going to have to send it in at some point anyway. If it’s not for cutting stuff, who cares if it’s sharp?

And if it’s that important, why not ask?

Not a lot of this makes sense.

Absolutely - I have sharpened plenty of knives but I'm not doing it on a Microtech and permanently voiding their rigid warranty, especially when it's totally dull on arrival.

The seller did not misrepresent anything, & the buyer is wrong to file a PayPal claim.

Sharpen the knife or get it sharpened if you don’t know how, your call buyer.
I believe you are only digging a big hole that you will not get out of here.
Got a shovel?

Buyer should contact PayPal and mark the claimed dispute as “resolved”.
The seller never said knife was sharp, or was razor sharp or any other claim of sharpness.
My ignore list just grew by 1.
Thanks OP for informing us members of this action taken by this buyer!

Thanks all for the responses. Some good points being made. I don’t know if I can post my conversation or if that’s against forum rules.

Wow, you have 10 posts and made my ignore list  Great lob!

Another for "ignore."

Of course.

Upon reading the thread, immediate ignore for the buyer.

I've had new from manufacturer knives that were dull!! From multiple companies.

I can sharpen, and if there was a knife that required sharpening by the manufacturer to avoid voiding a warranty, I'd never buy that brand....or I would man up and either sharpen it, or send in.

Hopefully lennonnyc comes to his senses and digs him self out of the hole he has firmly planted him self in....

But, he is already on my ignore list from this stunt.

Deal with it. Knives come dull from the factory, that's a fact of the hobby. You have to be a newbie to not know this. This is just silly nonsense on your part and your angle of approach is all wrong on this one. It's not the seller's fault that the knife is dull from the factory. You say you sharpen knives, but won't sharpen a Microtech? I've sharpened many Microtechs with no issues at all. With zero feedback and 5 posts, your stance has no credibility here. Take a step back and really think about this one.

My stance has no credibility here? Then why are you asking questions and making statements like you and I are in some kind of pissing match? Are they rhetorical or are you just pontificating for your audience here?
