Recommendation? Resolve dispute over sharpness?

Where did this nonsense come from about sharpening a microtech voice the warranty? That is gibberish . Glad this worked out.
That's what i was wondering! Sharpening voids the MT warranty? What knife company would say you aren't allowed to sharpen the knife? That's crazy! They're knives! The main maintenence required besides oiling (and you dont do that much with an OTF) is sharpening! I've never heard of such a thing. So MT wants some dude operating in the field and actively using the knife to just mail the dang thing in from Afghanistan? LOL that can't be correct. "Hey, uh, insurgent..I'm out of ammo and Microtech won't let me sharpen my knife, so i kinda sent it in, so what I'm saying is, I have nothing on me to fight you, so just wondering if we can maybe meet back here in 6-8 weeks, if that's cool?" :D

This. A deal isn't done until both parties are satisfied no matter if you agree with their reason for being dissatisfied or not. The consensus here seems to be that the buyer did not give the seller the chance to make things right. It is not clear to me that this was the case. It appeared that when the buyer contacted the seller the response was very much along the lines of "not my problem take it up with microtech." Perhaps I misunderstood. I guess it is academic now anyway...

Yeah, I think you misinterpreted it. The seller nowhere suggested along the lines of "not my problem, take it up with Microtech". Have you read all of the responses in this thread? Anyhow, the seller and buyer have already come to a resolution.

From post #22:

This knife cost over $300 and it's as dull as a butter knife, when you email a seller of a knife advertised as "barely used" to let them know there is an issue and they just tell you:

"I just checked the microtech website and they recommend sending it to them for sharpening.
Anyway, sorry to hear about that.
Take care"

"Sorry to hear about that" i.e. yeah that's a shame that you aren't happy with how sharp it is followed up with "take care" i.e. not my problem is how I read that. I have read the responses to the thread, and they mostly seem to consist of "learn how to sharpen a knife." Although I do agree that anyone that owns knives should learn how to sharpen them I also think that it doesn't matter why the buyer is unhappy, if they are then it is incumbent upon the seller to do more than suggest they take it up with the manufacturer.

It's already been suggested and resolved to return the knife for a full refund. Sure a deal is not done until both parties are happy, but wanting to return a knife because it's not sharp, is just silly in anyone's book. The OP should probably close this thread since a resolution has been met.

I've been buying/selling/trading on eBay, Reverb.com and the 3 main Guitar/Amp forums since 2001 and have never encountered a single issue with over 400 transactions - it blows my mind that there are folks who think sending out a totally dull knife is A-OK and must be the buyers issue because they are new to this particular forum.

Just like it blows my mind that you've made a huge deal over something that could be corrected BY YOU (!!!) in like, three minutes. Wow. You're definitely going on my "Never Do Business With" list.

I would love every knife I buy to comes screaming sharp ... but the realistic matter is many come from the factory with not even close to what I would consider sharp ... even some expensive blades ... and if I didn't want to sharpen them myself I would own about 10 knives ... the ones that actually came SHARP .

And then you throw in a seller trying to list the level of sharpness ... I would take that with a grain of salt ... what many people consider sharp to many is just like a butter knife ... and some have never owned a truely sharp knife ... so I can't hold a buyer responsible for defining "sharp' to my liking.

But glad this got sorted without a PayPal ordeal.

This. What I consider sharp, to some it might not be. Would that then be my fault? "HEY MAN! THIS KNIFE CAN'T SPLIT ATOMS! PAYPAL WILL HEAR OF THIS!!"

Anyway, it's whatever, glad this got worked out.

My stance has no credibility here? Then why are you asking questions and making statements like you and I are in some kind of pissing match? Are they rhetorical or are you just pontificating for your audience here?

You need to start digging up...this isn't gonna end the way you're hoping it will.
