Ring Guard Bowie Progression

WOW...outrageously NICE Kyle.

If possible, it would be cool to see it with the other guard and showing the filework.

Thanks again,
Peter

This seems to be your most ambitious work we've seen here on BF. It really came together. The working in of the ring and shell-guard was particularly well done.

Way to go!

Until now I hadn't commented on this piece. The reason for this was that I wasn't sure about the design, the outcome and if I would like it. Now that I've seen the endresult, apart from the bluing, I have to say that I like how it turned out.

The steel is great, the ivory too, but that wasn't the tricky part as far as I'm concerned. For me it was the ringguard and how it would fit in the overall design. Although I still probably prefer a clamshell guard without a ring I'm really impressed with the outcome. The ringguard is well balanced and incorporated in the design. Furthermore a great execution all around.

Congrats on what you've accomplished.

Hi Peter,

I will post some detail shots after I completely finish the knife.

Thanks for the kind words everyone.

Thanks Marcel.

I thought the ring guard would be a fun feature on this knife when I first had a look at Kevin's sketch. I like the way the ring guard looks more than the classic clam shell guard. I kind of have a bias though being the person that made it.

Outstanding Kyle.

Both Kyle and I feel that a very subtle single gold domed pin placed in the center of the handle (ivory) may help draw the eye into the overall knife better. Does this make sense? We had discussed this early on, however decided to wait until about complete to make the final decision.

It would be cool to see side by side photos of the knife with ring and classic clamshell guard. Great idea for final photos.

WOW Kyle

A fantastic thread that really shows the thought and work that goes into the details of a Kyle Royer knife. The take down is great and cloam shell guard is nice but the ring guard is truly exquisite.

Yes! Sounds beautiful.

Hey Kevin and Kyle,

This knife is extraordinary!!! I absolutely love it and am very happy you are getting it, Kevin! I'll admit I wish it were coming my way.

On the domed gold pin... if I had photoshop skills I'd do a set of comparision photos. Might look great with a pin but I'm leaning towards without. It looks so damn good I'd be worried about distracting from the fine details that flow so well right now. Either way, can't wait to see the finished knife and I'm sure you 2 will make the right call!!!

Kyle and Kevin this knife is beautiful

I think the pin would look great but I believe if it where up to me I would leave it without

Obviously this one is quite impressive.

I would have liked to have seen a slightly longer back guard lug, and think the overall package would be greatly improved with a fluted acorn shaped finial, but that is entirely personal preference, and in no way diminishes the excellent overall flow of this knife.

Well done.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

Kevin, I have to agree with Connally --- no pin. It's my opinion that it would be a distraction rether than an accent. As in art work, the eye should flow smoothly from one scene to another , I feel the pin would be a distraction without adding anything to the over all look. This masterpiece is complete, I hope you don't further embelish it uselessly. IMHO

K & K for me the handle looks great and has a nice flow. I wouldn't add a gold pin...but in the end it's your choice.

Marcel

More mesmerizing damascus, Kyle! What a tremendous WIP thread and project. Really have enjoyed this, and love the result.
