Ritter MK1 in CPM M4

That's a good point about the "stonewashed" finish. Under no lighting or at any angle does the finish of my knives look like the one on the Aeromedix site. I wish they did.
I can best describe the coating on my knives as an anemic mirror finish.

I am not at all impressed with the M4 RSKs. The grinds are very poor. Every one of my knives has a blunt tip and uneven primary and secondary bevels.

It's frustrating because, out of the box, my M2 High Speed knives were perfect .

You have to catch the light just right and you can see the finish, but you're right, it doesn't look like the website does. I think the coating is an advantageous side of the M4, simply because it is such a great application. After two weeks of having the knife the coating is still perfect. I really like that. My Axis lock was a little sticky, but that was the same on the 556 I had and that evened out. The M4 is all right now, but I cleaned it and relubed it, too. It's a shame you weren't satisfied with it.

Best of luck.

I'm betting that was not Aeromedix and Ritter's design & expectations, but another YOWWY from Benchmade's sporadic QC, as of the past 9 to 12 mos. we read about.

I'm not a Benchmade basher. I have about 10 of them (all blue class) and only one had to be sent back for issues, I centered the blades on two others myself and the rest are great. Pretty good all around and I love a smooth axis lock! :)

I bought one of each...I have quite a few Benchmades. I have to say that based on what Benchmade has delivered over the past few years, if it weren't for sentimental connections to ETS and Knifeworks, I probably would not have bought any Benchmade knives in the past few years and won't be buying any more.

In this case, I truly think Benchmade let Doug Ritter and Aeromedix down. I've got a pair of these, and I'm glad I bought them, but in this case as in some other recent cases Benchmade seems to be demonstrating that they just don't value either vendors who want to work with them on special run or endline buyers.

i think i lost all faith in this. i don't think i can trust that my knife will come the way it should.. the only thing that is keeping me from canceling my order is that i know aeromedix is personally checking each knife.

I still think it's worth the potential annoyance, which should be all it is. The design is great. The blade steel is great. The worst case is that you have to send it back to Benchmade, which will (in my experience, having had to return a few knives that were defective out of the box over the past few years) fix your knife up and turn it around pretty quickly. Very annoying now, but of that's the worst case you'll have this knife for years and if you're like me you'll forget the short term bother and be happy with a great knife. Hang in there.

yea but i personally don't want to spend the money to send it back to them when it should of come perfect in the first place.

the knife design and material are good though. will be a great edc. i herd the scales they used feel more sturdy then the norm

I have owned over a dozen Grips and the fit and finish of these M4 RSKs is poor in comparison to any other variant I have owned.

The handles and lock are fine, but the knives are let down by the poor standard of grinding of the blades.

What size did you order? I think all the larges are gone or spoken for.

What makes the blade of poor fit and finish? Mine and any iv seen pics of are perfect !!! Please post picures of this so called poorly made blades!

says large in his post.

I ordered 2 larges on 4/9. I saw people order larges after me get filled. Maybe because I ordered two, only update I received was on April 13th when they said I would get filled on the next order.

I am not too worried about the delay, but it does seem to that some people are getting lower quality than expected. That does worry me.

These knives ship with the same fit and finish all griptilians do!!! I don't understand why everyone is bitching!

i looked at a grip at a local gun shop and the fit and finish was perfect on it. centered blade, nice grind, SHARP, Axis lock was smooth, even grind.

and a normal grip sells for what 70$?

these are selling for 155$ i think the extra cost should at least justify good QC. it's not Doug Ritter or aeromedix's fault. benchmade needs to step up their game and built the knife their supposed to.

The knife is almost perfect as long as benchmade does their job.

The extra cost is for the m4 steel and the DLC coating and the high flat ground Ritter blade

The grind on mine was not too awesome either. The blade had a scratch under the coating, so it was there from grinding. I plan to use mine, but it still bothers me a tiny bit. Not enough to spend money to send it in. It already costs a lot.

sorry but those 3 things don't jack up the cost 80$. these are small folding knives.

your right i guess 3 major changes in an otherwise production blade for 940 knives wouldn't result in a change in price!! what could i have been thinking i mean why isnt the spyderco gayle bradly (which is made in china) the same price as a tenacious??

I just thoroughly inspected mine and I must say it's pretty darn good. Blade is dead center, grinds look pretty even, rock solid lockup, hair popping sharp. The action was a little rougher than some axis locks but I put a little CRK grease in it and it's silky smooth now. Overall I'm pretty happy with it. I was on the fence a little about whether to carry this or not because I've become a little spoiled with my Customs and highend knives but this is one I will most likely use. I'm sorry to those that got bad ones but the one I got is pretty good to say the least.
