It's been a while since I've taken some decent pics:)

Is the iron wood higo as smooth as the shin? I've heard that the frame locks are not as smooth. True or nah? Plus the ironwood higo is a liner so...

Sunny

True as far as my experience with HIZEN, SHUN and SHIN goes.

Thanks [emoji106]. Actually picked up another shiro! The shin I have is very slick, but it's so comfy in the hand. It's also a finger print magnet. Other than that it's my current favorite [emoji3][emoji106]

I read the instructions and it says not to was the knife so the water does not get into the handle and some parts may rust.... "dont wash of the water after use" which parts are they talking about? or am just not reading it right.

I think it's referring to water getting inside of the handle and rusting out the steel liners and such. Not so much the blade.

Thats strange, thought the liners of most makers are stainless. Wonder which parts are not stainless other then the blade.

I've actually seen rust form in a different knife. It was a Shirogorov f95t. The ball bearings and bearing cage were rusted. I'm pretty sure they use a stainless steel for them. In this case it's on washers. So maybe the blade around the pivot area? My vast knowledge or broken Asian English leads me to believe that it's in regard to anything inside the handle where water cannot be easily removed. I've used compressed air with good results :)

My Chi is quite slick too. I ended up putting a piece of grip tape on the handle to get better traction. I think it makes the ergonomics 10x better:thumbup:

The liners are hardened 420J2 stainless steel. Stainless does not quite mean that it will never rust, it's just less likely to happen.

FWIW, I just put some Tuff-Glide in my pivots here and there, and wipe the blade down with rubbing alcohol. I've rarely had rust issues on any of my knives.

Awesome idea, thanks!

I love seeing the wear on your handle Blues, I personally think it looks great. Awesome pics. I had a Chi and returned it for various reasons...but i'm thinking of getting another, it's just hands down one of the most attractive knives i've seen. You've had no issues with that incredibly fine tip? It honestly had me worried, it appears very fragile.

Can someone please link me or is anyone willing to give some advice on sharpening/stropping the zero convex grind(honzo) blades. In the Rockstead videos it looks like the guy just goes back and forth like a barber would. Is that it?

that makes sense. Im going to take it apart and see for my self. I would like to give my knives a wash every so often, even the high carbon blades.

Thanks Brother!

I've never had an issue, but I'm a little concerned about what would happen if I dropped it tip-first against concrete:eek:

I took mine apart a couple times. Once to see what was inside, and a second time because I bent my clip. I would advise against disassembly unless absolutely necessary (but it's your knife:)) because the Chi is meticulously crafted on the inside. There's all sorts of pins and rods and s**t that can be easily damaged, and the screws are so small, they are easily stripped.

The handle that comes off is nothing but a "cover". It adds no structure to the pivot. The pivot is held together with a bushing and "seat" that holds the blade centered. This knife was not designed to be taken apart 100 times like a Sebenza. If you want a Rockstead that you can disassemble, look at the Hizen/Higo.

What I do for cleaning, is use a toothbrush, tissue, and Tuff-Glide to get all the dust/dirt out. My Chi is the only knife I own that I'm afraid to disassemble. Great knife though:D

When I took my Higo apart for the first time after a month of carry, it actually had some rust spots in the media-blasted pivot area. I think with the DLC coating it should be less of an issue, even if the steel isn't stainless.

Did you put Tuff-Glide (or similar) in the pivot?
