I'll be happy to donate one of my collection for the cause - what about the Salt 1? I don't use it all that much and it's fairly small and sheeple friendly. What do ya all reckon? I can take a photo of the knife on a remote Indain Ocean Island this week (Barrow Island) and then post it to the next person who is keen. Maybe Daniel in NZ.

I think we need to stick with a DK. I'm still waiting to hear from SPyderco that they are OK with the idea.

Maybbe this will come together. Anyone know anyone near the artic and antartic?

I have some friends who live in the Arctic, as the knife makes it way through Canada we could get it sent there.

It would be cool to see pics of the knife at the 7 wonders of the world....whatever they may be :)

I think it would really be cool if we could see how many different countries it could hit.

Does it really matter? Would we be infringing upon any copyrights or patents? I mean, if it says "Spyderco" project, then sure, but if they're not into the idea we can leave their name off.

It has been pointed out to me that customs for various coutries may make this extraordinarily costly or totally impossible.

I forgot about my experience a few years ago in trying to send stuff to Canada for example.

We do not want people to try and "sneak" it through or be untrueful on customs forms.

SO how do we address this, skip PIA countries (like Canada) completly?

If there's go for the DKPK, I'm deffinately in. I would be happy to supply a picture of the DKPK in the hands of "The Little Mermaid" :D
I think the knife should travel by Denmark, since it's named after it...

It is a great idea! You can count me in Budapest, Hungary. No custom problems, it's legal under 8 cm - I can already see that beautyful photos with the DK, the Danube and the Chain Bridge or the Royal Palace... :)

Another great idea from Dave. :D

We'll donate the knife once you decide which model.

I did have the thought that the DK is an anomoly and not really as easily identified as a Spyderco.

If the goal is to get a photo of the model with a local land sight, I think a more "conventional" model might work better. Certainly one could ship a model into Denmark for a photo without breaking any "carry" laws.

The 2.5" version (blade length) of the UK is called the "Urban". Perhaps it, or another model might be "conjured" up for the project.

a Spyderco around the world model?

You could call it the Meridian.

Plains? Snow, you live back east where there are hills! If you want PLAINS, you'll have to send it on to me in Liberal, KS - home of Pancake Day and Dorothy's House:D

Hi Sal,

Thanks for the reply, I'm kinda guessing you are tossing ideas out there. Your comment on the DK not being "branded" is curious to me. What actually does it mean for a knife to be "branded"? I'm assuming it means strongly ascociated with and recognized as a spyderco product? Does lack of fully functioning thumbhole prevent it from being a recognized product?

Honestly I hadn't really though much about it in terms of this project, as it was to be just for the appreciation of people that already know Spyderco products.

However it certainly could be part of some sort of marketing PR kinda thing.

Do you see it as part of the project to consider the design of a "world Knife"?

I'll participate, I could go down to New Orleans and get some pictures there. I don't live that far from it.

Pretty cool idea.

I think, though, that rather than kowtow to countries that are, well, dumb enough to have laws forbidding lock blades, those countries ought to be skipped over. :grumpy:

Those senseless laws just really rub me the wrong way, and I don't think we should reward countries that have them on the books with recognition, respect, or commerce.

Who's with me?

I live in West Palm Beach, Florida. I would probably be willing/able to make a trip to Key West, to take a picture of the knife in front of the buoy that says "Southernmost Point in the United States." It sits on a spit of land as a landmark and everyone goes to get their picture taken there... :)

I got Hawai`i covered. Maybe Daywalker would be more suitable, I'm sure he can get better pics than I could.
