"I do not have a dog in this fight.
I watched the mess unfold the othernight, both sides screwed up.
As a business owner there is only so much bullshit you can tolerate, I know first hand. The fact remains some customers need fired to conduct healhy business. This was not the place for it if no one wanted feelings hurt. RYP handled a fair amount of nonsense that was dished out by many and he finally pulled someones "punk card". The response was as I assumed it would be and the result of action levied by staff was appropriate. But RYP's actions were also admired in an odd way due to the fact he had a fair amount to lose, by finally saying "When". An I'm your huckleberry moment if you will.
RYP will conduct business fairly as it would appear by his damage control here.
Most would have not come back for more abuse, he did, to right things for those with concerns as being displayed.
I ordered a HEST fixed blade a few days before this happened fom a site supporter and vendor here on he forum. I was going to return it due to the nonsense that happened. I concluded I will keep it due to RYP's ability to come back on here and continually take all the bullshit, and reply with facts.
Not out to offend either side, just a view from the outside."
Thanks BigShovel for an accurate assessment. What I have been saying over and over is that
1)DPx Gear is in business for the long haul. Its about good customers enjoying good products. Nothing more. I will be dead and gone and DPx Gear will be making cools stuff because our customers design it, use and swear by it. If you swear at it you get your money back, your gear fixed or whatever it takes. Customer for life. I don't know of any other company that has people with our logo on their arms before they even have our product. That's commitment that I respect and return
2) Based on my brief experience here, this forum has become girl slap central. Not my opinion just the opinion of many blade enthusiasts who don't enjoy being pissed on by a small group of oldtimers. When you push back all you hear are shrieks and back channel emails to the mods to pull my hair. So like you say when I knock on your reality door and ask you to pull up a chair people suddenly realize this isn't 1996 and being a Grand Wizard doesn't mean you are invisible anymore.
3) There is some serious good corn stuck in the turds here. Some really cool people who love blades, love talking about mods, uses, comparisons and would love to just keep it about their passion. Overall this forum is the best forum on blades but damn do you need to put gloves on when you fish around the toilet bowl. Having strong opinions is great. Being insane and doing a Son of Sam on receptionists and nice people is part of the stuff I won't tolerate. Either should you.
3) I will take my lumps. People in New Jersey don't like me. I can make a map of where they live around a certain mod. People want to send an email at midnight on Friday and post that we are shitbags because there is no money in their account at 6am Monday. Some think we should exchanges knives for money in a back alley mexican standoff. I know I will never please those people and worse most people have never even seen the knife. That's cool. I reminded Kevin that supporting torturous interference on a forum is not cool and the surest way to chill a manufacturer's wallet. But we will return those knives and put them in the hands of wait listers. (NO the regular productions are not going out before the LE's BTW). For the public record I think its just plain dumb to keep just plain dumb and criminal comments on a public forum read by kids or even adults.
4) What you don't read about are the guys that love the HEST, the guy that lost his job but held on to his both his HESTs, the guy in Afghanistan who pimps his knife, the contractors who love it, the wives who waited patiently to surprise their husbands and of course the dozens of people who write me very nice emails review and notes to thank me for such a great knife.
BigShovel. Its not just about me, its about a small group of people who make up this company. We don't have a big factory making WalMart knives, we don't have ten year waiting lists and we are doing very well in a very short period of time because we actually listen to customers, we respect them and I think you can understand why we have no problems drawing a very clear line in the sand. In this risk adverse, PC world that is becoming a rarity. I can say our customers are of the same mind and we will always lose customers who don't share that crystal clear view of doing the right thing.
I would hope people can respect that, even if they don't agree with it.
Now let me get back to work.
Peace out
RYP
