I also agree that its odd that:

1. the op didn't mention the lighter initially

And

2. DaKCbeast DaKCbeast didn't initially deny the accusation of not returning the knife

Nor has DaKCbeast DaKCbeast adamantly and consistently insisted he did send the knife back, rather focusing on punishing the OP for misrepresenting the condition.

Agree that without a confession, or proof of knife AND box, we might never know the truth.

Bummer.

I'm really glad this doesn't seem to happen here very much. Reading this is 30 min of my life I won't get back...

But the problem here is unless someone comes clean, we'll never know. The box the buyer says he sent back *could* have contained just the Ultratech and a slice of bubble wrap (doesn't weigh much) - scales can be miscalibrated, yes, even the braintrust at the illustrious USPS aren't calculating interplanetary trajectories on their equipment. So a half ounce here or there is possible. He did say it had no box also.

Now the seller seems to make a valid argument as well, except for the empty vs. lighter point I made earlier.

And we all know stated descriptions are often exaggerated. So like I said, unless the villain here comes clean, we'll never know based on available evidence. So since there is plenty of reasonable doubt, the mods probably can't hit anyone with the ban-hammer.

Hopefully there was insurance on the box and a USPS claim will settle this.
There is a first time for everything for sure, but I have never seen a scammer return the buyers money before he sent the knife back. The one thing there is no disagreement of between the buyer and seller is that the seller refunded his money. Arguing about who is lying about the knife not being in the box? That isn't getting us any closer to the truth.

If Robert Stack was still around, we could have an “Unsolved Mysteries” episode on this and some old lady in Nebraska would call in saying the guy with the knife lives next door. SWAT team moves in, boom, done, everyone goes home happy.

Robert Kraft is still around, he owns the Patriots. Robert Stack hosted Unsolved Mysteries.

Very true. Seems kind of pointless to make a false claim of a missing item unless he has plans on making a claim to the payment processor, but as I understand it, unlike PayPal G&S (all I will ever use/accept) you don't have any recourse unless filing a credit card claim. Or he could be doing it just to smear the rep of the buyer for being a d1ck about the condition. (not saying he was, but...) Or he could have forgotten about the lighter and have genuinely been screwed. So who really knows. Only the culprit...

I have said that I sent the knife 10 times.

Dallas T Dallas T do you have a receipt from your original shipment that would show weight? Apples to apples if it was shipped in the same USPS box.
Ya know I actually looked for that but I shipped flat rate small box and weight doesn’t factor if it fits it shipped so unfortunately no, thanks for idea though
