September BOTM - 102 in black palm wood/154CM

Not a fan of palm wood from what I have seen in various pictures, but I have to admit I haven't seen any in person, that I know of. Glad buck is giving us a wood that hasn't been used previously for a BOTM and new model for the BOTM.

EDIT: For the price, I'd rather purchase the Pro version - S35VN better steel, Canvas Micarta better handle (opinions will vary). $150.00 regular price. Lower price with a BCCI discount.

Holy cow, that was almost one of the quickest Buck purchases I've made. Until I saw it was using black palm wood. I thought it was ebony. I just don't like black palm. :(

Quick rant for Buck - why is the last picture, a close up of the handle, blurry ?

99% of the handle is out of focus. If, I were trying to make a decision about purchasing a handle material Buck usually doesn't use, it would be nice to see a close up picture of the entire handle. (Packs up box, goes home).

Doing some looking around. It seems that when I think of palm wood I think of the wood at the end of this block of wood (end grain - thanks hhmoore). But, it seems that Buck is cutting these handles to display like the sides of this block of wood. Which I think looks better and should look pretty good in hand ?

From what I've seen in pictures, it looks like Buck usually shows the end grain. It's always looked odd to me, as I'm used to seeing it like this:

I don't have a102; but the images didn't they'll me (could just be my phone making it look overly dark). I'll take a look on my desktop later, and go from there.

It's a good knife. Had it been a 117 or 212, I would have grabbed it. But I pass.
A fuller-less 117, and I'd agree. On this knife, though, I'm out. I'd expect them to show midline to best; and those pictures simply don't appeal to me...and I luvs black palm.

I take it the $98 price for the pro is for BCCI members? It was $145 where I looked, which makes the difference between the pro and botm insignificant.

I like the 102 and I find the palm wood interesting. I'd like to see it on a knife in real life. I'm passing, but just because I have no use for it. Pretty knife

Nice work, Buck. Beautiful 102 knife. I appreciate the craftsmanship and utility of this small fixed blade. I use mine on the poor turkeys in the spring up here in Michigan.

This BOTM is a pass for me, but it will be enjoyed by many in the Buck community.

Still waiting for the new Vantage buildouts.
