Sheath Thread; please share some of your favorites

I for one am a leather freak but the fantastic sheaths posted by David and Bob truly are the cats ass

Another high art in the world of sheaths is as we have already seen here the saya

Here is a modern adaptation by Jason Knight

Sword is awesome but it is sheathed in leather

Leather just does not work for any real practitioner of Japanese sword arts the Saya is an intricate part of the equation when it comes to draw cuts etc

None traditional and I never could figure out why this style sheath was not more popular metal lined with a felt/paper wrapped in leather

They have fantastic retention and hold up like metal sheaths :)

Levi, I'm glad you posted a few photos. You are definitely one of the top makers in your genre.

Leatherman

You took the contents of what I had to say totally off base

If the op who is a grown man who pays for a membership puts a thread he has started that is about custom knives and how custom sheath relate to them in the forum that he chooses what right does someone have to move it

The traffic count on this forum is far less than where this was started and if the op would have wanted it here he would have put it here

I have done more than most to speak about how important sheaths are and have contributed for 30 years to the makers of such

To insinuate I have any disdain for any sub forum is ludicrous and way off base

If sheath makers want to reach out to custom knife owners more they should learn to work the room and that means coming to where the patrons buy their wares

The sheath forum is great but this thread was posted by a paying member in the sub forum of his choosing and it is definitely related to custom knives and shows many pics of both knives and sheaths

Plus what's up with no link

Complete and total agreement. :) It could have been handled better from the very beginning. Good to see its back where it was intended, and a redirect in the sheath forum to guide those interested like should have been done from here in the first place.

I truly hope things will smooth over, and no, the sheath maker forum is not Butt Hurt Paul. Jeeze. :p

After a fair amount of ah...input :) this thread is back in the C & H forum. Carry on and happy holidays.

Thank you for moving this back to C&H, this is where I feel it belongs. Happy Holidays to you as well.

Here's a couple more of my favorites from Robin Sever and perhaps my favorite hunter sheath of all from Chuck Burrows:

Robin Severe and Chuck Burrows are both masters of the "western"genre. If you think Robin's sheaths look good, you should see his saddles. Larry Parsons is another Master of that genre.

Like I mentioned in my opening post, often a nice sheath can play a large part in creating a nice Custom Knife Display.

StEven, high praise indeed, thank you and Happy Holidays right back at ya.

Hey man, I'm serious....it's impressive.

I tried stitching up a sheath once, got nice clean markings and punch holes, and bled all over the imitation sinew after about an hour....popped blisters, and gave up.

My soft little girly hands are simply not tough enough to handle the work.:grumpy:

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

It's hard to compete with Paul or Kenny on a leather sheath and truthfully I contract all leather sheaths. The only sheaths that I have made for years are the metal tipped wood/leather sheaths for a traditional Bowie like this one:
