I agree, it is nice to be able to use PayPal as intended. I have purchased many items via F&F. What I do not agree with is singling out one person for using the F&F option in PayPal. If, as a community, we want to stop this practice it has to be for EVERYONE, not just one person. It seems that in every second sale thread I look at, the person is asking for F&F. If we don't want this, the practice has to be specifically mentioned in the rules of the forum. Once that is done, the debate is over for good.

We have a winner!

PayPal is but an aspect of this thread. This thread is actually about ShepardCC. So says the title.

Let's exclude the ethics of PayPal GIFT for a moment.

Scrim called him a liar and a scammer in his very first sentence of his first post in the thread. Those accusations are what the last few pages are about IMO and he has yet to prove either.

From the screen shots shown, it looks like ShepardCC posted a sales thread and completely omitted the forms of payment accepted. It only said to email or PM him. Scrim said "I'll take it" in the thread and sent a PM requesting PayPal info to pay. ShepardCC replied with the info and said that he only accepts PayPal GIFT. Scrim does not use GIFT and was unhappy that it was not specified in the thread and expected to honor the original sale by paying through GOODs. Reasons were then given by both parties for their preferred method of payment. A brick wall was hit regarding PayPal and Shepard offered to pay by check or money order.

And that is where the public PM conversation ends.

Payment methods were not mentioned in the original sales thread and added later to notify other potential buyers. PayPal was assumed and when it was not agreed upon other methods to pay were offered. They were then declined. I see no lie and no scam in this scenario.

The lie that Scrim accused and has yet to prove is that Shepard said that payment methods were in the original post and not added later. Where's that PM?
Did I miss any other lies allegedly told?

Just to be clear, I 100% disagree with the use of PayPal GIFT when paying for GOODS.

I always appreciate your perspective, Benchwarmer380. In fact I've always felt that you would make a perfect Moderator on this forum.

With that said, & to respond to your take on this situation: as this thread progressed, I lost sight & tried to ignore the back & forth (he said-he said), mudslinging. Just to be clear- I'm not condoning anyone's actions in this thread. Personally, I would be pretty angry if someone came on here & attempted to smear my reputation in this manner. FWIW- If I felt that someone was out of line (as in the OP's case), I would've either contacted a Mod & reported it, or in this case, I would've just move on. I don't have time to get this amped up & stressed out. Besides- there are always so many other potential awesome deals to be had here. Sometimes when a deal here doesn't work out, I'm usually pretty happy- the fact that I still have a few hundred more bucks in my bank account! :)

There is another member here (RetiredGuns), who once posted a great quote in another rather unpleasant GBU thread: "Don't ever want to star in one of these threads!"

I couldn't agree more! It's easy to be on the outside looking in...on the other hand, when you're blindsided with accusations like this out the blue, it would be a very bitter pill to swallow.

I hope that these 2 member's (with an otherwise 100% positive history here), can move on & hopefully learn something from this.

Happy New Year!

Edit:

In Reality.... It's not up to this site to specifically outline guidelines for ethical and legal behaviors, these guidelines should have been properly instilled into members by their parents. It'd be nice if this site took a positive stand on this issue, however it chooses to remain neutral and let peoples own behavior show their integrity.
Each of us makes our own choices. Some choose to do business with those that circumvent rules/laws everyone is supposed to follow and some choose not to do business with them.

Perfectly stated, Karda!

Uh, yeah. It is called the real world. Welcome to it! You won't bladeforums to be everyone's mommy. Utterly ridiculous.

I wouldn't pay paypal FF for any purchase. Thankfully the buyer had other options. Quite simple.

Glad I didn't read this one until now. Happy to stay out of it. And I won't be responding to Karda, or anyone else's inflammatory posts. No doubt this will be locked soon enough on its own.

This is a great place to learn about people. Scrim was on my ignore list long before now but he consistently reaffirms my decision to put him there....

I think that there has been far to many threads as of late with name calling, finger pointing an so on. I myself am guilty of this, and will be trying my best in 2016 to stay clear of these threads. I will try my best to take note, and continually add folks to my ignore list, as these threads do nothing other then make us all look like fools when we start arguing with each other. I'm done here, have a great New Year All!

All this could have been avoided by simply adding the fees to your total.

Common sense tells me I should pay via friends/family option only when I actually doing just that.

From what ShepardCC posted it had 0% to do with the fees. He stated he didn't like to use G&S because of the lack of seller protection.

Maybe I missed something... how are you folks seeing posts made by people on your ignore list? I realize there are some quoted replies but it didn't start out that way.

We are not going to police paypal's rules. Read the aexchange rules for information.

Warning: You as a buyer are responsible for using Paypal as it was intended, according to their Terms of Service. Using the "Gift" option revokes any buyer protection you may have if something goes wrong and makes it easier to get scammed. Be smart and protect yourself, if you use gift and get scammed don't come crying to us about it as you've already been advised.

If you want to roll the dice, and take a chance getting burned then Do NOT come crying about how you got ripped off. Jet move along. There are a lot of people that will give you a good product, a fair price, without any additional BS.
