SHOT Show 2015

I'd like to see the Selkirk.......

It's not "made in the USA" and it reminds me of all the cheap fake Vangurds for sale sale on the auction sites. I guess Buck said if you can't knock them join them?

Love the Selkirk. Hate the sheath. Being made overseas is a deal breaker for me. :(

547 folding SKINNER made in USA:

I don't go for specialty hunting knives so much (I don't hunt all that much) but WOW, I really, really like what Buck has done with that new line-up.

The entire line looks like it goes together. There are very strong design element similarities among them. Once you get a feel for the line up, they could add a new knife and if you saw it with no label on it, you would say, "That's a new Buck Open Season knife". IMO, that's really, really good brand management.

There are other Buck knives that form "families" with a strong familial resemblance. The 100 series of fixed blades, the 300 series, the 500 series, the 110/112/113/?spitfire? group.

IMO, Buck should more rigorously organize their offerings in such lines or families - even if it means eliminating some models. IMO, people should be able to look at any Buck knife and just from the design of it be able to say, "No question, that's a Buck. Look at any Victorinox knife. You instantly recognize it as a Victorinox.

The Brahma looks interesting if the price is right. That's about the only one that floats my boat.

Here is how I estimate my price on the newbies (I am a lifetime BCCI member): MSRP x 1/2 + 10% of that 1/2 + shipping.

Brahma 119: $115 x 1/2 = $58 + 10% = $58 + $6 = $64 + shipping = $70 estimated out of pocket cost knife in my hand.

I have this knife on order and will have an actual cost when it is delivered and I pay for it.

Thank you for posting that photo ITE. The dark handles are "Thermoplastic handle materials" and the wooden ones are Rosewood. I see the folders, 1/2 folded, over to the middle right. They look big like a handful. They should fit my xl paws.

I noticed, regarding the folders:

Thermoplastic folder has a thumb hole opener while the rosewood folder employs a thumb disk nested in the blade gimping for opening. And there is a pretty good price difference between the two of $27. I see deep carry pocket clips oriented for tip up carry for righties. They are both shown by KC to weigh 6 ounces. They weigh less than a FG 110 at 7.17 ounces. The new folders, 8 1/2" (per KC) are about as long, overall when open, as the 110 8 5/8."

Question: Are they liner locks?

Those open season knives look pretty nice. Can someone explain the recurved blade to me? Is it good for processing game or something? It is a huge turn-off for me.

hunting knife or not, im really considering trying an Open Season folder as EDC. Though a bit large for my EDC preference since I like the small vantages so much

The Brahma and Selkirk look good to me. Nothing against the others but each year there are things I like more than the others. Need to get to my local dealer after he gets the new line it to check them out to be sure though. Sometimes things look great but don't fit me, like the Lux which I wanted to love and to some extent the TNT which was a grail for me till I got it.

Nothing I'd buy in the new line up,I feel buck is looking to attract new customers by introducing flashy knives, but sometimes by doing that they leave the traditional customer empty handed .

The wood handled Open Season folder looks pretty nice. S30V, decent blade size, and a flipper, nice combo.

"empty handed"? It's not like Buck dropped all their traditional models. How many ways can you make a stockman, trapper, 100 series, etc? Just because we haven't seen any new "traditional" models posted doesn't mean there aren't any, (no one has posted the entire 2015 catalog).

LOL, that's the bread and butter of Case Knives. "Here's the next must have: a stockman with mother of abalone inlaid with rhino horn, accentuated with daffodil yellow buffalo bone and sprinkled in platinum pixie dust."

Here's the Open Season 536BKS Skinner fixed blade... 4 1/2" 420HC Steel Drop point Blade...

Here's the Open Season 541RWS Boning Knife fixed blade... 6 1/2" S30V Steel Blade...
