Signalprick/JWRitchie Knives Slipjoint Recovers, Mods and WIPS

Looking good your killing it lately love the one you did for fullflat

Thank you my friend. That was one of my favorites so far as well.

I think this is my new favorite thread. Amazing work, I really like look of those sharp looking accent liners. I wish i had the tools to try something like this.

Thank you! I'm a fan of the accent liners myself. I will def. do more of them esp. as I transition into my own creations. I think it was last Aug. or Sept. that I started down this path and I literally started with a sanding block and a pile of old sandpaper and some basic hand and wood working tools. It's been a real sickness since. :)

Got the inlay work done on the 06 tonight. Thanks for checking my thread out! :D

Cool, good to know you don't need too much to get started. I might have to dabble in some of my own mods in the future. I'm not brave enough to modify a GEC but I wouldn't feel bad about tinkering with a case knife.

The little 06 Pemberton project is complete! I recovered this one in G. L. Hanson and sons hunter green crosscut g-carta. Pinned SS shield and all SS pins and hardware. Thanks for checking it out! Have a great weekend!

Looks great Jason! :thumbsup::thumbsup:

Signalprick Signalprick Jason, I hate to be "that guy", but the word you want in your signature is "pique", not "peak".

I'm digging your work. I've got some ideas formulating in my mind.

Signalprick Signalprick Jason, I hate to be "that guy", but the word you want in your signature is "pique", not "peak".

"Like perk, however, peaked can also make sense in context. Peak means “to bring to a maximum value or intensity,” and this is certainly what one might mean when saying, “my interest was peaked.”

Peak is also a far more common word than pique in everyday parlance, so it’s not surprising that people confuse these two words.

In fact, I bet many people mean peak rather than pique when they use this expression in spoken communication — not that their interest was aroused, but that it was brought to its highest point. And this, of course, raises the question of correctness. If a speaker or writer means peak in an expression that traditionally uses pique, is it an error?

I think not. It’s only an error if the speaker writes peak and means pique. But that can be hard to discern, so I say, whenever possible, give the benefit of the doubt."

Here is an A. Wright lambsfoot I'm recovering in snakewood with a red g10 accent liner. Please don't hammer me on the spring gaps! This is an A. Wright after all. I'm not a complete miracle worker! Lol.
I should have taken a "before" pic of this one. It was literally taped together. I decided a while back I'm not going to get into reclamation projects but this one is for one of the best on the porch so I was happy to take it on. :)

That one is going to look spectacular! Don't sweat the gaps. I can't even get a straightly ground blade out of Sheffield recently.

I've handled 3 to this point and I don't get the allure to this brand honestly. Terrible, absolute terrible f&f from what I've seen.
They have a long history and the patterns are very traditional. Beyond that I think they have declined in quality. It’s probably harder to get apprentices; and even harder to find those who take pride in the craft. Just a guess.

That is looking so good.:thumbsup:

Not to go too far off-topic, but...
The A Wright has the best F&F over there, from what Jack tells us, sad as that might be.
Even though their F&F is horrible, it's not the quality of the knife that makes them so great.
The handle shape, length, and thickness are perfect for the hand and the blade shape is outstanding.
You want those qualities in a knife, it's pretty much the only game around. You have to live with the flaws.

I know, GEC made a Lambsfoot, it's beautiful and the F&F is amazing.
But if you ask me the A Wright is still the superior knife when it comes to using it.
Just my .02 cents ;)

I would respectfully disagree with this. Poor craftsmanship would lead me to believe, and actually I experienced it firsthand, that the blade and spring may have shoddy HT. I'm not saying all of them do but would you trust it knowing they dont even attempt to make a decently finished product? I trust GEC on this front.

You are correct, I trust GEC with all things quality.
I was merely speaking of the design of the knife being superior for use.
And I will add that my Rosewood A Wright holds an edge longer than most.
Now if GEC would copy a standard A Wright in all dimensions, we'd have the best of all worlds.

I understand what your saying for the most part. The level of quality here is what turns me off personally. I mean, a guy can buy a $10 chinese knife with much better quality than most these have nowadays. But to each their own. I do have one with a broken tip so maybe this is a knife I should attempt to make when I start doing my own cuatoms? ;)

She'll be vastly improved when she is all done sir!

I agree with you here, I'd really love to buy a lambsfoot but its just so hard to justify the price tag of A Wright knives given the F&F and China does have a few factories putting out some surprising quality. Maybe one day I'll find a decently priced lambsfoot on the secondary market to try the pattern.
