SNG rant

I just spoke to someone at Strider. She said send the knife in and include $15for return shipping. So I'm out another 30 or so bucks on a new $500 knife.

I'll report back when I get the knife back. Hopefully, I will still be alive. Maybe my 5 year old son will be able to end this thread some day. lol.

Seriously though, given my vast 3 week experience with Strider, I am not too optimistic about this whole process. The kicker would be if I got the knife back with the same problem or some new problem like excessive blade play.

Not sure your even reading my posts???

Did you spin the pivot with your fingers???? Do about ten degrees at a time, the whole pivot will spin.... Male and female side at once. It's loaded with loctite so the whole pivot will spin...

Somewhere in the 360 degree motion your SnG's action "should" go back to how you had it.

Somehow the pivot spun, and that is ht your seeing the spanner notchs at different spots now.... Fine that sweet spot again...

This whole fix "should" take a few seconds... Spin pivot with fingers, open a few times... If it's too tight.... Spin pivot a little more with fingers... Ect...

This should work

Should also save you some cash....

.......

and some time....

Hope you see this post and try it!!!!! :D

Please let us know if this works!!!!

Should the pivot be spinning like this? Is that normal?

So, I will have to keep making this adjustment to keep it opening smoothly? That seems like a very "hack" solution.

Yes they all spin. :)

It helps to tighten or loosen the blade movement.

Sounds like this is the problem given that the action has gotten worse, not better, over time and the pivot has moved.

So this entire rant was perhaps a waste of time and the knife is functioning "as designed?" It would be nice if Strider actually informed customers about their product. Complete hackery IMO. This actually makes me even more pissed than I am.

It actually lets you adjust the blade movement to your personal tastes. :)

Some people like it stiffer and others like it to be faster etc.

It also helps if when in the field and grit gets in there you can turn the pivot back and forth to adjust it and or get the grit out.

Did the blade movement get better when you tried it?

I won't be able to find out until I get home from work (doing stupid things like actually answering client emails). I should go into the knifemaking/selling business.

I am carrying the Sebenza today. :)

After break in, my SnG's never need to be "fine tuned."

Your blade is not broke in yet... it's getting there but not quite there yet, so it is moving/spinning the pivot a little due to the washers and blade not being mated to each other yet.

Yes it will always spin when you want to "fine tune" it. They are very very low maintenance when they are fully broken in

All that said, yes Striders are NOT for everyone.

Ah OK. :D

Just give it a shot when you get home, it might not work remember.

Also Strider SmF's and SnG's are designed with the Military in mind so there will be some tool-less adjustments. :)

I don't get your statement.

So what, I'm not entitled to a functioning $500 3.5 inch folder out of the box?

I am not entitled to prompt responses from CS when I ask about a brand new $500 3.5 inch folder?

I am not entitled to basic information *from the company itself* relating to maintenace/care of its own products?

That's fine. It's a free market. Strider can conduct business any way it chooses. I would just as soon not deal with a company with this type of business ethic.

That's just plain sad. They sell the guy a knife for $500 that has maybe $100 in parts and they ask him to send money for shipping it back even when he's in the same country?

Plain sad.

This does NOT surprise me

Your NOT "entitled" to anything! A little research should of been made before you spent $500 on a folding knife.

LOTs of people feel the same way you do! That's what's so great about a "free market," Strider seems to be doing well... for whatever that's worth.

I do feel they are overpriced, but I can say you will not find anything "like" a Strider SnG or SMF! Not even ZT's.... They (ZT's) weigh too much for me but do bring the "hard use."

I don't get it, So-lo. You act like you're offended. The OP is right -- Striders seem to be exremely proprietary. Given that, it would be customer friendly to tell new buyers about these unique procedures. Does someone have to be a fanboy to be allowed to buy one or just to be able to use it?

You took my "entitlement" statements out of context. I qualified them at the end of my post, acknowledging the free market. (That being said most states have consumer protection laws and there are causes of action like breach of implied warranty that "entitle" consumers to basic rights when purchasing products.)

Not offended Esav, in fact I only have one Strider... and do "just use it."

Also far from a "fanboy" if your last statement was to me. I'll admit.. EVERY Strider folder I have ever had... Yes even a MSC SMF had side to side bladeplay! I'v had to spring locks to get te vertical play out if them, tightening pivots seem to not take the slight side to side play out because the pivot is not the "problem." Over time the G-10 will wobble out of round and let the pivot move a tad... thus making a slight side to side bladeplay even if the pivot is so tight the knife will not open.

I NEVER had any problems with my Striders except one...
they weren't chisel ground.

No wonder I'm happier with my Spydies! :D

So-lo, the fanboy remark wasn't for you, it was for too many Strider guys who blame the victim in threads like this.

He *did* blame me. lol. I "should have done a little research before buying a $500 knife." lol. What a joke. That absolutely reeks of "fanboy."
