SPYDERCO MANIX2 S110V - rope test & Epic Fail !

Tolikz, test material looked like 5/8 sisal rope wrapped in paper. Still, that blade and steel should have made many more cuts than that. Even though Jim's test material was not the same. Cardboard and wood shaving/ cutting are known to degrade an edge. So, we have to look toward some other factor for the different out come. i.e. sharpening or heat treat. Thanks guys for making the videos. DM

Didn't get around to doing a video on the Manix 2 before the regrind so it would also be different. ;)

So you would have to go by the link to my testing on that one..

Actually the MT-18 in S110V performed lower than the LW Manix 2 in S110v....

The MT also had a lower HRC... 60 vs 62.5 for the Manix 2...
I have good impressions about mt 17 k390.
As I mentioned here above, I think that there was technological mistake in production . I suppose the blade was heat treated before grinding. Then , while grinding, the blade was overheated.
The HRC examination will fail, because the surface for applying the pressure should be parallel to base. So, we can't find out the real hardness on the edge...:(((

Thanks a lot!
I do use this 18 mm hemprope wrapped in paper in nearly all my tests. Even more. I buy this rope from exactly one seller to eliminate the doubts.
My friend from Russia, Oleg, is very experienced person in testing and he is knifemaker as well. His manix showed the same result....
I have no doubt about his result.
So, the incorrect heat treatment took place . I come with you about this.

I dunno, mine did fine, but I make sure I remove enough steel when I reprofile to remove any and all of the factory edge issues that might be there, I do that on all knives I test....

Thanks a lot!

Yeah I use 5/8" Manila, all from the same place like you do.

My friend Slava77 used salted rope in few his tests. Comparing these two ropes the scale is approximately 1:40-1:50. Only few knives were able to make over 100 cuts...:)
Sure, the weak layer should be removed. So, I think, the knife should be resharpened twice or triple to reach strong "heart". :)
By the way. I know one tester from Slovakia . He managed to do over 700 cuts of 20 mm hemprope with usual Mora Companion Sandvik 12c27. Sharpening with Tormek T7. I can share the link to the video, if you need it.
Thanks!

I don't cut until dull on rope, I use my standard format and stop at 20 LBS of down force.

Can you summarize the results for us so that we don't have to commit to watching a 44-minute video in a foreign language?

There is no need to listen for text. The most informative moments are in comparison of cutting performance . The pictures in final show the edge damage for each knife.
The summary is, that something wrong with s110v on Manix .

Thanks for the job. Informative comparison.
However, I suppose , the blade geometry of paramilitary is more successful than of manix' .
Thanks.
more curved shape of the blade helps to cut a more comfortable.but the blade thickness
