This little guy tried to eat a Ladyfish that I had hooked and in the process hooked himself on the Mirrolure the Ladyfish had got caught on. Pretty comical to watch and a lot of fun on light tackle.

Nice bugs! I've always heard that lady fish make good Cubera bait. What kind of leader did u have on?

25 pound Yozuri Fluorocarbon. Luckily he could not get his choppers on it or he would have cut right through. Ladyfish makes great bait. Use it for Tarpon, Snook, Reds, Sharks, etc. Fun to catch for bait too. Poor mans Tarpon, they spend a lot of time in the air.

The hot tip for Cubera is live lobster fishing wrecks or structure at night. Years ago anchored on a wreck off St. Augustine at night, dipped a large squid and fired it down. Caught a nice 58 lb. Cubera. Like some other fish once they get too big they aren't as good to eat. Under 25 or 30 lbs. is best. Nice thing about lobsters as bait, if you have a slow night, the bait is better eating than the fish. Yes they have serious choppers. ;)

The wife said I needed to put some Redfish Fillets in the freezer so I went into the backcountry to look for some smaller slot sized reds. They have to be 18-27 inches to be legal to harvest and i have a spot where a lot of 19-21 inch fish like to hang out. These are eating size fish.

For sport I prefer this size but they are to big to keep. At this size they will test your skill and tackle as they try to get back into the mangrove tangles and break you off.

This is where they live. This is the entrance which once inside is a maze of tiny mangrove islands.

Travel way up in here and everything starts to look the same. I'm old school skinny water fishing so I box my compass and use water flow, sun direction, and a compass to find my way out. Many times you end up in a dead end and have to turn around and rework the exit plan. You do not want to spend the night in here the skeeters would suck you dry. The sounds of the birds and tranquility of being isolated in a wild area is difficult to describe but it will bring you back here over and over.

Not a beach or fishing scene but the Salts do come in handy out in the yard too!

Agree. I keep trying to talk my wife into using her knife for pruning in the yard but she just keeps using the shears. We have 1/2 an acre of butterfly gardens in the back yard.

Same with my mates

They don't want to give 'em a try, too expensive they say

I guess spending mosre than $15 on a knife is blasphemous to them.

First day in a month that I didn't get any Roosterfish. These small sierra mackerel are epic though. Sushi grade.

Nice redfish Bugs. I noticed they have very few spots on their tails. The ones we catch further north almost always have more spots. Guess it's a genetic thing?

Number of spots most certainly is genetics. Most of the ones I catch have 2-3 eye spots on each side of the tail. Buddies have caught some that look like polka dotted fish. I'm still waiting for one with lots of spots. Going out again in the morning maybe tomorrow will be my day.

Spent most of the morning trying to stay in front (no pun intended) of this

I seem to remember reading that a Salt with Delica 4 style handle was going to be released. Like an updated Salt I. Is that correct or am I mis-remembering? Anyone aware of when it would be released? Or if it will be the H1 steel or that LC200N or whatever the new steel is called?

They are supposedly in the process of updating all the salt handles to the newer shapes with bi-directional texturing. That is good news for the Salt 1, but I kind of wish they'd leave the Pacific Salt alone. I much prefer that handle shape to the E4, but I can live with the change I guess. Steel will remain the same...H1. I have no idea about the timeframe for the handle changes.
