SpyderPunk - Use caution

In my opinion this is a generous and well-meaning but very ill-advised offer. There is a slim possibility that SP would actually use the money to forward the knife. However, that would only serve to lift the burden off of his shoulders and would do nothing to improve his reputation or reinstate any degree of honor to his continued participation here.

No, the question of integrity and honor will only begin to be addressed when the matter of getting the money for postage, physically packaging the knife, getting the package properly addressed, to the post office and into the mail with the necessary postage, insurance, delivery confirmation, etc. is of such burning urgency that he cannot eat or sleep until it is done and he has confirmed its shipment and delivery confirmation number to DaveH and he is absolutely sure that DaveH has received the message.

Then he can try to use that as a base to reconstruct his presence here and hopefully have the renewed opportunity to exhibit a new found sense of responsibility in future dealings with those who might be willing to deal with him in the future.

I agree WrayH! Absolutely! However, I do not think it will happen with SP acting on his own and from what I have read he is not getting too much support and that in itself is not much of a motivator! I simply thought I might encourage him to get in gear and resolve this issue.

Our youth must be nurtured! AND DISSAPLINED! Just trying to help!

I thought about sending him the money, but I figured what's to keep him from keeping the money AND the knife?

In my estimation this is not really about the lack of money to send it. It's about being honest and doing the right thing.

I just hope I get the knife back.

I think it is time to notify the Postal Inspectors. Even as a juvenile, mail fraud will make him sit up and think. Also his parents would become involved. Take your documentation (and print outs of this thread where he admits to having the knife) to the nearest PO, fill out a fraud form. It is a slam dunk as he admits to having the knife and KNOWS that he was asked to return it. Good luck and keep us informed as to the outcome.

im not keeping the knife, im doing the right thing because im that kind of a person, Its just that shipping is almost 10$ and i do not have a ride to the post office, my mother was the one u talked to Dave and she told me to tell you shes going to the post office when she gets paid tomorrow. so if theres any problems call her. you have my telephone Number.

Good to see you post SP, it is shame that it went so far that speaking to your folks was needed.

Thank your mom, she's the one pulling you out of this mess.

Dave,

The sour turn in this passaround is disturbing.

I have a 1 of 6 custom khukuri in a passaround right now...

However, I have complete confidence in the people who are passing it around because I talk to them regularly.

Perhaps for future pass-arounds you could ask that everyone have a "refence" within the group. That is, everyone on the list can vouch for at least one other person on that same list. This would guarantee against "unknown" folks because there would always be someone else who knew who they were.

Just a suggestion...

By the way, if money really is a concern, and the knife doesn't make it to the post office tomorrow, you could always ship a pre-stamped box to SP (within another box). Yes, that's more expense for you, but you wouldn't be handing out cash. Plus, if you went with the US Postal Service you could add the insurance, delivery confirmation
and Shipping Address yourself and all SP would have to do it give it to the mailman...

How true these words are for so many of us...

And then again maybe I've got good reason to be. On February 5th SP posted "I am sending the knife out tomorow for sure".

Like I said before I wouldn't hold my breath. Tomorrow never seems to come for SP. I suppose if it doesn't ship tomorrow he'll say it was somehow his mom's fault. Can't wait to hear his next excuse.

pendentive,

How right you are.

Been there done that, for my kids, as my folks did for me. They (children) learne from experience, sometimes it was painful, as it was for all of us growing up. Sometimes we forget what it was like. At 15, I certainly had my own shortcomings; it is difficult learning to be a man and to take responsibility for your actions without blaming others.

A little guidance, wisdom and support go a long way.

Good to see SP resolve this, somewhat painful perhaps, but another learning experiance in the life of a young man.

SP, I don't know if you are not getting my email or just not responding to them, so I'll just post here.

I didn't think it cost $10 to ship, because priority is about $5 plus maybe insurance of a doller or two. I will email my address to make sure it's going to the correct address. So please check your email.

Thanks

Before anything else, i'd like to say I am in no way standing up for SP. He was a troll over on the Spyderco.com forum from day one, and has tried to change over there.

.45acp

like many here, I've had to pull my own as&#115 from the wringer many a time. My folks were always there IF I needed help, but they are the type that figured I should learn from my own fu&#99kups.

Any funds I borrow get a large interest added(20 becomes 25), so I had to learn a budget.

My father has been the one to help the most, even going out of his way to put me in kickboxing after I had my life threatened 2x by the same guy(and the school and cops weren't doing a thing).

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. I guess it was actually SP's mom that signed up for the passaround. I don't go for the age excuse. I was living on my own at 15

I haven't given up yet, and I'm fairly persistent.

I emailed SP with my address just now, just in case. SP please post or email the delivery confirmation number so we'll know it was actually sent.

Edited to add I just tried to call, no answer, I'll call later.

i say ya are in one heck of a spot if ya cant come up with $5, ya could go pick up cans on the side of the rode and come up with five bucks, come on, thats asinine...............

my father was on his own at 13 (thirteen)in the middle of the depression and i bet he coulda come up with enough money to mail a package ($5 in 1930's money)if he needed to, only had an eighth grade education, but thru reading, etc he knew more than a little about a heckuva lot, and spoke english, spanish, german and some italian, not an educated man but very far from stupid. and, as far as i know, he never stole anything from anybody, and his word was his bond, in a lot tougher times than now.

times change, i guess.

I agree in principal with SIFU1A, on the money. But I don't honestly think the issue is actually the money. The money is just another convenient excuse.

BTW, it's people like SIFU1A's father that made this country what it is. Hard working honest people. It wasn't about what was in their heads as much as what was in their hearts. It's not the times that have changed so much, it's the people. There seems to be a growing trend in the lack of intergrity. From Enron and WorldCom all the way down to our own lowly SP.

Teach your children well.

Dave,

Any word from SP? Where you able to contact his mother?

Yea, this is sad to watch.

I did call ysterday and spoke to what I assume is SP's mom. SP wasn't there, I called kind of late and it's a school night ...

Anyway she said "his father" will send it this weekend, I asked why wasn't it sent last weekend like she said, and the reply was "There wasn't time".
