SRM, Bee, Enlan, Navy and knives Fan post

Picked up my order today at the post office and first impressions are overall pretty positive thought I'm a little underwhelmed with some of my purchases:

Ganzo G704
So far I'd say this is tied for first place as the best knife of the bunch. Fit and finish are basically perfect. Love he look and feel. Lockup is rock solid, blade is centered and operatino is pretty darn smooth. Not terribly sharp though it does slice copy paper pretty smoothly. I like it!

Enlan EL-02

This is the other tie for best buy. Like the Ganzo it's an Axis or axis type lock and functions perfectly. Again it's got a centered blade, solid lockup, GREAT looks and it's nice and sharp. No flaws to my eye. Another keeper for sure. On a side note, haven't checked the rest but the EL-02 (mine has the G10 scales) is advertised with a blade length of 105mm. That's about what it is if you measure from the pivot to the tip. From the end of the scale to the tip is more like 92mm or 3 5/8". Still really pleased with it though. It's already in my pocket.

Sanrenmu 710

Smaller than I imagined, (most of the rest of these are too) but again it's a nicely made knife and other than being on the small size it's fine.

Sanrenmu 704 & B4704

Both of these are pretty much the same except for the blade coating. Again, nice little knives but smaller than I would normally purchase and carry. No flaws though the action seems a little jerky.

Navy K602

This thing is HUGE! Love it. Not teribbly smooth opening but that will probably work itself out. Nice and sharp, good fit and finish though I notice one side of the pivot has two washers and the scales seem to splay out a bit at the pivot end. Might tear it down an see how it acts without the third washer. Centered blade and great feel to it.

Been looking at this one more closely and the edge of the blade is actually hitting the spacer near the tip when closing it before the blade hits the stop. As it gets used and resharpened that will probably not happen but a little more attention to fit and finish would have prevented it from happening in the first place. Still for it's price point, $18.50 it's not a deal breaker. This one is large and heavy enough it'll probably end up replacing my Buck Goliath as my "truck knife" anyway so it's not going to get opened and closed a great deal.

FWIW I remove the pivot screw, couldn't get the other half out but worked the blade around quite a bit in the frame and put it back together. The splaying that was evident before is gone and the knife opens much, much smoother now. I believe it was just a case of the washers not being seated properly when it was put together. Blade still hits the spacer but I'm much happier after just a little tweaking.

Bee L03-2

Not quite as small as the others, I like this one too. The wood is nice and it opens very nicely. No blade play, centered blade and great lockup.

Overall I'm pretty happy especially with the Ganzo and the EL02. I'll be placing other orders for sure but will probably tend towards the larger models though the smaller ones will make nice gifts for friends and family that can use a small, light duty knife.

call to arms- nice batch you got there mate;) a BEE L01-01 for 3$??? Where did you find that deal?

P.S: Glad to see that the thread is coming strong:) keep it coming

Question, whats the biggest SRM knife? I like build of the 710 but im tired of key-chains.

I have two of the bigger ones (SRM 939 and 908). Unfortunately both of them are discontinued... :(

CtA,

I resharpen again the k631. The cutting edge is same length as EL02. Is that 3"?

Now it's my sharpest among all I EDC, together with EL02 and SRM763. I might need to revisit sharpening these two, to ensure full apexing them (remove original factory edge). Meanwhile, the Navy will be primary user to test the edge retention.

can you post the picture of the beater EL-01 beside a brand new one here? Facebook is blocked here in china.... along with youtube blogspot etc etc...

I cant figure out how to get pics to show up in a post, as a registered user we cant upload them directly. Vortex, how do you get them to show up? If someone wouldn't mind they are welcome to pull them off my wife's facebook and post them.

Try Google's Picasa too. That's my favourite.

thanks, I can see the pics! wow I always like the looks of a well used knife. Looks like it wears quite well.Been thinking of buying EL01 like yours but I was concerned that the lower part of the blade used to flick the blade open would affect cutting.

How do you like the bee? under the two navy? couldn't decide if I should get it. I bought a model 681 781 and t16 will see how it is like.

Can you believe I have only had that EL-01 for about 4 weeks? The Bee knife gets a 6 out of 10, the fit and finish, lock-up and function is on par with the others from these manufacturers (very good), I am however very unhappy with the Micarta, it is a little to thick and feels like hollow plastic. If you ordered the same knife with the G-10 grips I bet it would feel much better. I think the rest of the knives I will order will have drop point blades, I again wasnt pleased with the Bee's blade style. The navy 628 is really growing on me, it is a dead-on copy of a spyderco model but I love it, if the blade was long enough to slice an apple with ease I promise you this would kick my Vantage out of my pocket. I have even warmed up to the 631, it does seem like not enough blade for too big a knife but you get used to it.

Update, I like the Navy 628 so much that I have started looking at the Spyderco Native which it is a dead copy of. Sources on the forum quote prices on the Native around $45, not a long shot from the $17 or so I spent on the 628. My research has said otherwise, cheapest I have found in Canada is around $70 and I found out that the Native doesn't have liners. Imagine that! the Spyderco has a "glass reinforced nylon" handle with no liners and the knock off has full length stainless liners and G10 scales. It has to be said that the Spyderco is made in the USA, for those of you that find that important, and it is made from S30V, whereas the 628 is 440c (they claim), I finally took mine to the stones last night and I have no complaints about the steel.

same here. find the K631 nice to handle with space for the index and thumb. 4 weeks! wow looks like a long time. 17 versus 70. thats like quite a bit of difference.
