Steel Junky's - need opinions

Anybody around here have any experience with CPM M1 ? It's Another one I'd like to try. Over all I'd like M4 the most to try. There's so many other canidates though. Stainless, I'd pick 20V as it is catching on and getting more popular. It's supposed to be in the S30V/BG42 class, a step below S90V and ZDP and Cowry powder steels. Joe

This is one of the greatest ideas I've ever heard, and for what it's worth, I'll buy at least one and force my friends to do the same! We should start a poll for blade steels, as there is a huge variety in preference. I myself don't really care which steel comes first, as long as the blades are sharpened.

I dont know how I missed this thread. Awesome idea.

I'd want to see VG10, 13C26 and S30V as a first run. I'm in.

I didn't like the Wharnie, so I decided to try a leaf (drop p). We're making up a steel proto now to test. I'll try to post some pics when it's finished.

I'm pretty sure that Mike Sastre, Scott Gere or Eric (Normark) would be able to make sheaths.

Haven't heard of anyone interested in making scales???

So far M4, 52100 and 13c26 seem to be popular.

BG has a very long lead time (14 months), we're waiting for steel now.

We did a short run of S90V Mili's in CF and we're waiting for more S90V now as well to finish the rest of the run.

Of those 3, (M4, 52100 and 13c26 ) do I hear a preference?

it looks like M4 has the most votes, and AFAIK nobody else is mass producing a knife from it. A new-ish, CPM, high speed steel could kick this off right. I could wait for the 52100, I'd even like the second steel to be 13C26, it should contrast well with the CPM M4.

I'd really like hard (64+ RC) 13C26 as a first choice, but M4 would seem to be the popular choice, and I definately wouldn't be disappointed if that turned out to be the first knife. Any news on the price range, steel dependent, of course?

You just named my top three picks. I want them all. I'd give CPM-M4 a slight edge. Leaf blade or wharnie, I like both. Heck, I'll pretty much buy any shape you decide on. What a great idea.

A leaf shape in this size sounds good. My steel vote in order of preference.
1. M4 by alot.
2. 13C26
3. 52100
I think any of the three is a great choice for the first one.

Are you thinking it will come with sheath optional? This would make sense to keep cost down, and some folks might only want one sheath. Though an inexpensive sheath makes storage easier.
