Stolen Rod Olson timascus unique one!!!

Not making any accusation here.
Just 2 weeks ago, Rod had this knife pictured on his own Instagram site. This knife has had a very adventurous, although short life.
Call me cynical, If I were chasing a grail, I could come up with a scenario to get the USPS to pay for it.
Yes, it is a truth, there are thieves working for the USPS.
For every thief in the USPS there's 3 million customers that don't know how to properly seal and mail a parcel .

Corhoff, that parcel has 2 inches of tape over only the closer tab ? Not what I'd call all taped up.
Another good point. I wrap the hell out of cheap knives, I certainly wouldn't have skimped on a thousand dollar one..

I don't want to sound dismissive... but this sounds like a scheme to scam USPS and get insurance money from it. Especially the part where "lets post on BF to be safe!".

He suggested I make a post on BF so it would be legit and it safe and so I did.
This is what I don't get, legit to who? Safe from what? And you're both adults, why would anyone else's opinion matter on a deal between you and someone else? Weird to say the least.
To prove the transaction is legit, you know? There's a ton of superfluous chatter and little real meat here.

Seems like a lot of justification which comes across as unconvincing.

I had someone ask me to do this on Facebook. He bought one item I had posted and I mentioned another in a message but he wanted me to make a post so he could reply there. Had me puzzled a bit.

The first thing that struck me was that the seller and buyer are 4 hours apart in CA. Why didn't both parties just drive 2 hours each way and do a face to face? It's a $1,000 knife. Insure it for full value, but hey, too busy to spend the money on a tank of gas to go get it???

That does not make sense to me. But YMMV.

ETA: Another thing that is really bugging me is that the buyer opened it and commented on how light it was right in front of the postal worker. His excitement and comment are not the issue. That he would ask the postal worker to watch him open it is. It seems like he is trying to "build a case" so to speak. I don't know for sure that he asked her to be present when he opened it, but in my experience, postal delivery employees don't really have the time to sit around and watch people open packages. Heck, half the time, they don't even have the quick second to ring the doorbell when they drop a package. Even in the PO itself, it's a rare day that there isn't a line at the counter.

To be safe! But let's also use PayPal gift! Smh!

And loose texting while driving! To be safe!

Sorry but when you conduct yourself in such ways you get what you deserve. While this forum will not police use of PayPal gift (which I agree with), members here can actively shun folks who use it. This is a perfect example.

"But I know him from instagram!" And how did that work out? Did he refund you yet?

Does this really have anything to do with Bladeforums? The knife was sold and shipped before the BladeForums Ad was placed?

That knife is so small would you actually be able to tell it wasn't in the box if you've never seen or handled it?

There's a lot of people hitting the ignore list these days. It isn't for me to figure out the truth- it's to avoid problems.

This is what I don't understand. If I was friends with someone on Instagram, and I wanted to buy a knife from them, I'm not going to tell them to post it up on another forum so I could buy it. I'll just continue to communicate with them using the medium I'd been using, and complete the transaction that way.

I don't really understand what's going on, and the exceptionally poor grammar and typing from the both of them makes it even more difficult.

I WILL say that this is starting to smell fishy. Both of these folks are going on my Ignore list.

If people know each other, they should just deal directly with each other. There is no reason to make the transaction "safe", by posting it on bladeforums, unless you are trying to create a scandal, and get lots of attention.

I only weigh 5 ounces but I'm worth $1000.00. The Seller rolled me up in brown paper and inserted in a small flat rate box with scotch tape over the tab. "Oh , Noooo!" The Buyer payed Friends & Family on pay pal, "Oh,Noooo.!" I wasn't mailed Registered so I won't be traveling in a locked mail pouch that's signed for by anyone that touches it, I'm traveling loose with thousands of other parcels today, "Oh, NOOOO!"
Here we go, everyone so bucket your seats tight OK? I was handed off to the Post Office and tossed in a big hamper, look out the other parcels are being tossed on top of me, "Oh,Noooo!" Now they're tossing me in a huge 6 foot tall metal cage on wheels, look out cause now they're tossing some 70 pounders on me, "Oh,Noooo!" They're loading me on a contract truck now with 20 of these cages full to the brim, "Oh,Noooo!
I'm on the road now not knowing how many contract trucks and jets I'll be on until I'm there. Uh oh, I'm at a sectional center and being tossed in another cage to my destination. Here comes some 50 pounders on top of me again,Oh,Noooo! Damnit, looks like one smashed me a little. That brown paper isn't good enough padding to make the box solid, OUCH that hurts "Oh,Noooo!" It's awful dark in here guys and I don't know if I'm on a contract truck or a plane now. Oh oh getting bumpy and those other boxes are causing mine to open up wider where it wasn't taped at the seams. I'm FALLING falling out of the box NOW  "Oh,Noooo!"
There goes all the Mail and I'm LOST, HELP ME , Help Me Please! I'm not stolen , I'm lost !:eek::eek: "Oh,Noooo!"

While ^this was pretty funny, it raises a great point. The box could have easily flexed enough to let a small knife out the seams.

So great. Now there is a thousand dollar knife missing and these two guys can't figure out how to handle it. Maybe ask instagram.....
