Stolen ZT Knives at Shot Show 2014

Stealing is about as unforgivable an act as I can imagine. I sincerely hope the person(s) responsible are caught and held accountable. Even the guy just there to do some work, someone bails with his tools too? Incredible. :thumbdn:
Don't be surprised these show up at BF.

I'll be waiting, believe that.

I know the theft was despicable, but what were special about these knives other than the laser etching?

My only guess would be they were designated to be auction items. The G10 on the 056 looks like a tan color and not FDE.

It looks like this online auction is still active. Will this despicable thievery prevent this from going forward, or will you guys be able to replace the knives in the packages? The reason that I ask is that this looks like this is completely worthy charity, worthy of our support, especially if the auction is disrupted and cannot complete.

ZT is creating new knives to replace the stolen ones. The auction will continue.

Things like this really upset me. Its just no way to justify it. If someone poor steals because thats what they have to do to survive I can at least understand it, but this is just despicable.

Stealing is a most appalling act but stealing from a charity is about as low as it gets.

I highly doubt the knives will show up on BF most likely on the street for bottom dollar. The scum bags are probably reading all of this as we post. It is not like they just randomly show up at shot show.

I'd love for these to show up on here. It'd be awesome to see the person responsible for this removed from the industry.

I also would think that the thief would be selling it on the street or at a pawn shop in Vegas... But everyone makes mistakes, so I guess I was banking on that.

I appreciate that everyone is keeping a lookout, even if the chances of it showing up somewhere online is slim.

Well I think it is safe to say that a spot in hell just opened up for the fool who did this. I could never enjoy a knife that I stole from a company. Much less one that was intended for charity. As crappy as it is if I was KAI I would be keeping EVERYTHING in the case and have a policy of only one knife leaves the case at a time. I just cant believe someone made off with all 4 knives without anyone spotting them. Hope they catch the SOB.

You'd be surprised how many "random people" show up at shot show. All you need is to know somebody or know somebody who knows somebody who is in the industry and you're in. That's how I got in last year. Either that or you have a part-time joe shmoe employee who work at an outdoorsman retail chain store and they are technically "in the industry" and are able to go.

You would think there would have been better video coverage for the vendors booths by building security. This sucks. I hope they nab those walking turds.

It may even have been an employee of the facilty. Very unfortunate incident. :(

One thing I'll add is that throughout history, private collectors* have paid top dollar for stolen collectibles/art/etc. While sure, this could have just been someone with sticky fingers who saw some neat knives and just swiped them thinking they'll be able to Craigs'Bay these, there's also a very real chance that no one will ever see these knives again because they're already "relocated" to a private collection. In fact, it's entirely possible that the thieves already had a buyer lined up. Sure, it seems like something out of a spy movie, but the fact is, large museums spend millions of dollars on security measures for a reason.

I used to be big into the toy collectibles scene years ago. Action figure prototypes were a huge business, kept alive primarily by how easy it was to lift them from overseas factories. Not quite the same situation, but in the end, it IS the same, in that there will always be plenty of people who will buy stolen collectibles and not think twice.

*in this case, I speak of scumbags who want an item regardless of what they have to do to get it

Stuff like this is disgusting. I hope who ever had the guts to do this get what they deserve and karma will get them sooner or later. This town makes makes people do some shady things.

Being from Vegas, I will keep my eye open and will check the local sites that this knife could pop up at.

You'd be surprised who may have been the thief. I had a friend (past tense) I've known since high school who went on to be, by hook and crook, a well known, wealthy manufacturer in the gun business and who is very prominent at all the shot shows. Crowds gather around his booth to see what his latest product is which he has his name on and is taking credit for but always, always someone else's invention or idea, either sold to him but most likely stolen by him.
The last time he was in my house he stole from me, a computer program, while I stepped out of the room. I won't allow him in my home anymore. A pathological thief and liar, he has stolen tips off of tables when we'd be eating in a restaurant. Like I say, you may be surprised who would swipe an expensive item off a display table at a shot show.

I know what happened. The knives are on their way to China to be ripped off. The Chinese knockoff moguls have scouts at shot show for the purposes of knocking off products. This has been well established on the gun forums. I remember in 2011 a Schmidt and Bender 1-8x scope prototype scope was hijacked.

This is why they are special... the knives were to be auctioned off for charity: “I started the foundation as a way to personally, and financially give back to the Special Operations community. I sincerely appreciate your support in joining us to make a difference in the families of the Special Ops community.” -Brandon Webb UDT/SEAL class 215

I remember reading about that on Sniper's Hide.

A very plausible scenario. I work in the Jewelry Industry (Swiss watches) and attend the JCK Las Vegas Show (time coincides with Blade :grumpy:) and there have been numerous incidents. Its the same convention personnel.
