I love a good spring storm. And, I believe I will love the outcome here. Lorien, you have really made some great choices...can't wait to see this baby finished!
This is a project I enjoy viewing. Magnus' work is such great art, piece by piece, with the artistic function equally as important as the craft itself. Most WIP threads just leave me cold, wanting to just see the finished product (except for Bruce Bump's - his are great, too).
Everyone who knows Magnus' work, knows that he has a- ahem- leather fetish
His leatherwork is incredible. It always boggles my mind that so many knife makers farm out their sheath work. I mean, it's great and all seeing good guys like Paul Long do so well in making sheaths for people, but to my mind making a sheath is part of knife making.
Anyway, since the sheath is getting started now, I thought you might like to get a view toward where Magnus is going with this.
This is the first concept drawing. It bugged Magnus that the guard didn't fit into the sheath...
so he redesigned it. You'll notice in the redesign, that he's chosen to incorporate copper accents.
I believe Magnus is near the top of knifemaker/sheathmakers in regard to placing so much importance and effort in designing and creating a beautiful sheath that fully maximizes the overall knife/sheath package.
Thanks Serge
Kevin, there aren't any metal fasteners within the handle. Just an epoxy 'pin' through the tang, plus the tang was 'barbed' near the end to anchor it in the epoxy.
I'm still eating this thread up, it's great, Lorien and Magnus. And plenty of time, because there's "Stormy Weather" outside - one staight week of rain (sunny California). Couldn't have happened at a better time, as this thread is great to follow!
