Lorien, you did WAY beyond good!! And, of course, so did Magnus - of that there was never any doubt, of course.

I love your new masterpiece!

Best,

Bob

Thank you Bob, I appreciate that very much.

thanks, you too bud.

Do you know if he is shaping the handle by hand, sander, files, etc? That looks like it will just melt in your hand!!

While Lorien sleeps I might as well answer that! :)

And the quick answer to that would be all of the above, plus a bandsaw and a drill press!

I begin by bandsawing away excess material and then go to the drillpress to smooth out after the bandsaw.
After that I make the handle octagonal using my sander.
Then to get the final shape I sometimes use files, but almost only with hand held sandpaper.
This is one of my most favored parts of knife making!

I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for the kind and inspiring words in this thread!
It is interesting to follow "your own" WIP thread like this! :D
So far I have not felt the need to comment, Lorien has been handling this very well I think.
But if anyone wants to, please feel free to ask me any questions as well!

Regards
/Magnus

Magnus,
You are a real craftsman my friend. I've enjoyed watching this come to be. Lin Rhea

Thanks Magnus:). This thread is for YOU. Post what you will.

I've been losing sleep a little over the sheath. The sample pictures Magnus sent fill my dreams...

In looking at the original wood selection, I must admit that this piece would not have been my first or even second choice. Seeing it coupled with the knife and the copper fittings, it is clearly and by far the best choice. Shows you how much I know. :o

Good stuff guys.

DONT USE IT!!! Keep it as your first presentation knife! I like the colors and I think you should keep it shiny and on display!

DROOL!!! That combo is pure sexiness!!! I agree... don't use this one, just fondle and love it, then put it on display for all your friends/family to look at. Ha... :D

That looks very nice!

I really like the work of Magnus!

Kind regards,

Jos

Stormy Weather's handle has been oiled, the next and I believe the last step for the handle is for it to be waxed and buffed. Magnus didn't sound convinced that he was entirely happy with the way the patina turned out but I like it fine. It's up to him to change it if he wants, but it's his call.

Not long now!

It sure is a BEAUTY!

I guess it was decided against a buttcap. That finish on the wood looks impeccable. Can't imagine Magnus would not be happy with that.

Hope to see the finished sheath.

Peter

Lorien and Magnus this has been a fun thread to follow thanks for doing it. The knife is wildly cool.
