Strider Knives, Game Over!

I must have missed something. What connection does McClung have to this?

Of course later in the post the above substantial portion changes to 'all', but I've just used a bullet point list, so who am I to find fault in the prose of others?

Actually, the term "all" in my post is in a different paragraph and was used in the context of a question in the paragraph in which it was used....not a statement. Notta a prose problem, just a reading error on your part. :D

The other assertions I made in my post about the makeup of Strider's customer base should have been preceded by the words "may have been" and "may have", in that order, as to not confuse fact with possibility.....My error. Corrected below in bold face.

I wonder if this degree of "military experience" deception created by what appears clear to be by both the owners of a knife company whose busisiness success may have been driven by the supposed heroic military reputations of the owners, and which may have attracted a substantial portion of Stider's customer base, will bring any type of class action lawsuit against them.

I realize its just hypothetical and wondering out loud but with that said my thoughts go like this. To bring a law suit at this point is kind of premature for anyone and it may never really be something that would warrant that since no value is lost really on a purchase and no one has been harmed really. If you want to call it slander on POW's part for what is posted then the burden of proving its just that lies on the shoulders of the one being accused. Its only slander if it isn't true. You need facts to prove something and so far little if any have been seen to justify that Strider has been damaged in anyway financially, or that the buyers have been damaged by the purchase of a knife they thought was made by a high speed operator type. Afterall the knives do what is advertised regardless of who really made them.

I'm a little amused at the idea of a class action law suit but I guess anything is possible in this sue happy world we live in. Its a long shot at best to prove at this point that we are even sure its the same guy (Poland/Dwyer) and I can't say with 100 % certainty that it is. Can you?

I admit it looks that way but none of us can say without a doubt that is the case. Nor can we say that we really know what Duane did in the USMC or what he himself ever claimed to do or if he changed his name. Its all really just a bunch of pieces to a puzzle based mostly on hearsay. While I agree when put together a certain way it can be made to look bad for Duane, there is still enough room (albeit very little) to give him the benefit of the doubt until we get the facts if we ever get the facts.

To me the stuff to focus on now is the claims. Many have made claims about Duane's experience level. Where did they get this information? See, we don't know that either. If these claims were not accurate why did Duane let them go without correction? If they are accurate why not settle this with proof?

As for the ID theft theory. It seems strange to me that someone that stole his ID would steal his addresses as well. Normally when someone steals an ID they just take all they need to set things up to establish credit elsewhere like you see on the news where someone from Maine had their ID stolen and the guy that stole it lived in California or Florida living off their credit and buying houses, cars and anything else with it.

Also, it seems strange that if the records were requested under Duane Dwyers service number that Poland would show up in the military records but again we really don't know enough to say with certainty that its Duane Dwyer's info we are looking at do we? All that paperwork on POWnetwork does is it proves that a guy named Poland did a stint in the USMC as a data systems tech. Without paperwork showing a legal name change we really can't say we know its the same guy. We can say it looks that way at best.

Earlier someone said that Strider uses the best in the business to heat treat their blades. I read that Strider no longer uses Paul Bos if that is who you are referring to. They apparently do their own H/T now. Not to be nit picky but just to point out if you know something contrary please fill us in.

Lastly. SSN's are out there and people have to whip out their ID all the time with that info. You can't buy pseudofed on the internet without first providing a copy of your ID and you can't be expected to think that to those that want the information and know how to obtain it that its really all that hard to get. As I said earlier if you hire the right guy that is good at it he'll obtain that and more just like the car theif gets duplicate keys and a remote control to bypass your security alarm in your car happily handed over to them by hiring some Vicotoria's Secret model looking gal to waltz into the service dept. at a dealer and flirt her way into everything they need including your VIN and anything else on the computer there.

As an aside to all this, I have a question for Bubbanumber1 who seems to have intricate knowledge of the workings of pownetwork.org, as well as the new member here "pownet" that has been watching this thread closely (but not saying jack-shite)... my questions are as follows:

Why in recent days have the following people all been added to pownetwork.org's "roster" of people that need investigation, information as follows:

A VERY well known and respected carbine instructor is now under investigation by pownetwork.org... I have the documentation... are you kidding me? This guy is WAY above and beyond being questioned for his service and expertise.

Also, why did an "investigator" (term being used loosely) show up at Prado Range today with a picture of Darryl Bolke, declaring that they were there to "investigate" him (Darryl) on behalf of the pownetwork.org.

Mr. Bolke has never been and never claimed to be a member of the military. So how is it this website "dedicated to outing military posers" have now increased their scope to include non-military persons?

The common denominator regarding the above people is only two fold. (1) They have either been friends with or vocal supporters of Strider Knives; and (2) Kevin McClung perceives himself to be butt hurt by them in the past.

Where does this end?

Who's next? Me? Bring it.

This is very disturbing news, I wonder who else they are going after?

Something that has remained unaddressed and kind of makes my curious: Duane's resume includes being a member of the Del Rey Oaks PD SRT. Del Rey Oaks is a small town adjacent to Monterey. They have a 6 man department. Why does a resident of San Diego County belong to an SRT, usually a high risk emergency response team, in Monterey County? The commute has to be a real bear. Response time might be tomorrow.

If they have a team that competes in various events and Duane is a heck of a shot, whether USMC sniper or not, he could help the team compete. With that commute my guess is that he is a reserve officer, and participates in SWAT team competitions. He's not their trainer, just a member and, it would appear a very intermittant one. Departments like to get the best team competitors they can. That might be the reason.

And while Del Rey Oaks PD has an SRT, realistically Monterey PD or County Sheriff would have a larger, full time SWAT that would deal with any problem.

Just curious.

Like Massad Ayoob here in NH who currently is a part time captain with a small Agency (No other part timer there ever held a rank) and in return for the title the Department gets all kinds of goodies. I believe Ayoob's last "Street experience" here in NH was as a part time officer with the Hooksett NH Police Department. That was probably 20 plus years ago and IIRC did not last all too long.
Since then he's been a ranking part time officer with a few very small departments. He has probably worked far less than 8 hours(if even that) total on the Streets in the last 20 years. These small Departments that "Hire" reap a big time benefit because Ayoob has access to all kinds of training and equipment.

My bet is that Del Ray Oaks is doing the same.

And their yearly earnings with these Departments are the same : ZERO

way off topic, but you are the first person i have seen post on bf that ayoob is perhaps not all he is believed to be.

from what i can tell, his reputation is built on a similar platform that dwyer is accused of.

i have always taken his techniques with a grain of salt. some are good, but overall i find them to be relied upon because he has been training leo's for so long.

Ummm.... McClungs connection to this is really the foundational connection to all of it. From beginning to present... spanning several years.... He and Lance.... (Tamishigiri).... its all one lovely loop that goes around and around and around.... and has been largely ignored until they got pownetwork on the bandwagon... oh... and Spark too .... a little less than a year ago.

Let me know if you want the "historical data link".... complete with Sparks comms to McClung.

Sorry Spark. ;) Actually, I dont need to be snarky about this... I believe Spark admitted to those comms.... YAY Spark!

Don't get me wrong I am not knocking Ayoob. I am just a little jealous of the guy. I had to work full time sometimes 70-80 a week and get shot before I got my first promotion.

And it was not the rank of Captain that's for sure!!!!

And not really thread drift, Folks like Duane and Steve Tarani being able to list "employment" with an LE agency but not work as Police Officers is sadly quite common.

The real ones have to pay their dues, the others just have to pay....................

yikes! im sorry to hear that re: your promotion.

im jealous of his contracts too. but i also would not want a reputation built on exaggerations. kinda like a house of cards.

michelle /friends of the strider guys

is duane dwyer thomas poland?

is the service record posted on pownetwork an accurate representation of the service record of duane dwyer?

in regards to the origins of all this stuff.... what role if any did "special operations equipment", the company that once shared the same address as strider in oceanside, have to do with this stuff coming out?

OK, I think I get it. Here goes.

Being a bored covert CIA super prodigy, McClung at some point in his past decided that he would use his skills for his own amusement. With his top secret clearance to military records, he decided on an ex almost-Ranger and a USMC data technician. His plan: to use these two as his own personal soap opera by watching them rise to success and then snatching it away fom them.

After kidnapping both men, and secreting them away to his underground spy bunker, the brainwashing began. For months the men were trained to make knives by day, and had their memories rewritten by night. At some point the men were ready to enter society once again. By now they were master knife makers, being trained by the great McClung himself, and to the best of their knowledge were decorated spec-ops who should be giving back to their beloved military. The two joined forces to start a company that would make hard use knives that every soldier could afford.

After several years at the top, McClung decided it was time to pull the plug. At this point, he started leaking rumors of the true history of Strider's owners. He successfully managed to get POWNet and Spark to go along with the plan by using a little blackmail (we've all seen the pictures Spark). After that, he just sat back and watched it all fall apart, laughing maniacly.

Does that sound about right?

S.O.E.(Special Operations Equipment) Is involved in this crap? I hope not!

You're a member, do a search. Hint: It's not in this forum; it's all in Practical Tactical.

Back to this thread ...

Well, it's interesting but all reference to "peoplefinders.com" has been recently scrubbed out of the records. It's good that reference has been downloaded and captured though.
Yes, we understand, you are saving anything and everything. I think everyone's well aware of that by now. You can stop repeating it. I'm sure if POWNetwork was worried about what you are saving, they'd have taken more action than simply deleting it, so please, give that sorry tactic a rest.
lets possibly compromise the safety of an LEO AND his wife and children. And you all think this is fine? Holy toledo batman.
Somebody has watched "Marked For Death" a few too many times. If all this information is available from PeopleFinders.com for $50, do you think a "death squad" looking for him wouldn't use it? Please save the melodramatics.

Now that's actually a very good question. What possible reason could they be investigating these people for?
We have what was "believed" [blah blah blah]
Speculation. You can scream "lynch mob" but really all we know is that someone claiming to be an investigator for POWNetwork showed up to question some carbine instructor and Bolke. Until we know more, saying it's unfounded isn't really accurate, though I'd agree with the term "fishing expedition". I don't know why exactly they'd be digging like this, but if it has to do with these people providing "bona fides" for fakers, I wouldn't be surprised.

Ummm.... McClungs connection to this is really the foundational connection to all of it. From beginning to present... spanning several years.... He and Lance.... I've stood by my statements since Day 1. I'm not pleased with how McClung handled my request for information on this, but such is life - I should have known better after my own experience with him previously.

Anything regarding this mess I claim to be a fact, is backed up. Anything I say is speculation, I don't have proof on. Which is why I'm not 100% set on what is going on with these latest developments, unlike what happened back in Feb.

But since you raised the issue of comms, Michelle, what have you asked Duane Dwyer about this? Is he actually Thomas D Poland? If not, what were his dates & class number for Scout / Sniper? Or dates of enlistment? Or the name he served under? When was he a Sniper Instructor, or a member of Force Recon?

It'd be great if we could get some clarification.
S.O.E.(Special Operations Equipment) Is involved in this crap? I hope not!

SOE was owned / operated (IIRC) by John Willis and was collocated at the same building (again IIRC). I seem to remember a thing about weapons charges & convicted felons having guns & some Marines being arrested with stolen Marine Corps equipment, that certain other parties swore up and down they had nothing to do with, but since I don't remember the exact details I can't say exactly what happened. I do know that since Mr Willis was released, he's restarted his company, now called Original SOE Gear.

Somebody has watched "Marked For Death" a few too many times.

LEO persec is a big deal, I doubt it made national news but a BP Agent in Tucson had four guy break into house, beat his dog and popp of a round from a 12 gauge at him when he confronted them. When it was all said and done the guy with the shotgun had a fatal case of lead poisoning, one is in custody and two are still sought.

i've heard about inconsistancies with ayoob for yrs, FWIW.

i still enjoy reading his stuff (one of his mags is in my throne room right now) but i dont take his word as gospel.

imho ayoobs info is 10X as reliable as mclungs though i wouldn't believe him if he told me the sun would rise in the AM, i would go look lol.

must say i dont understand how/why folks wanna inflate there service/invent service in elite units/etc, i suppose low self esteem would be one reason. if anyone did lie like has been implied, shame on them, they should grow up, get a life and hang there heads in shame.

if folks are being unfairly persecuted, shame on the persecuters.

i still dont know what to think of all this, who to believe, but before it all comes to an end i am sure the truth will be known by all.

as far as any damage to SKI, i just havent seen it, but who knows what the future holds?

whatever happens they do make an excellent knife FWIW, imho there was never a need to lie/exxagerate about anything which is one reason its all so hard to swallow for me.
