Just passing through, but after reading about felons, fakes, phonies and Stolen Valor, I thought I would share a link to: a real "USMC Sniper". Gunnery Sergeant Carlos Hathcock.

Gunny Hathcock certainly is and will always be, an American Legend and Hero.

For anyone to claim fame to being a Marine Corp Sniper that has not legitimately completed the training and received the title in honor, is bringing discredit on those members such as Gunny Hathcock.

I am so glad for the "Stolen Valor Act".

Hatchcock was one of those guys that laid it all on the line...many times. God bless guys like him that were the true patriots.
 
Just when it was about to go off page 1, a 1 post wonder had to bring it back to the top with a post that has nothing to do with the actual subject matter at hand. I guess we can expect alot more of this. Spark maby you should make this area for paid members only so at least BF will get something out of it.
 
I really resent being called a "1 Post Wonder". I was not the one who opened the disgusting can of worms. If you do not want any more comments or postings on the subject matter, then let me suggest that you close the thread down.

My post of Gunny Hathcock was out of respect for the profession of "Snipers" and for the Corp in general. This is something that you wouldn't understand considering your background. Or least your posted and public background.

I guess I am now a 2 Post wonder.
 
I think someone posting about people that make false claims about their military service being a slap in the face to those that actually did walk the walk, has a great deal to do with what this thread is all about.

I respect him also, as I do anyone who does their job in the military. It still had no bearing on this topic. Now what background of mine might you be talking of? That I am prior service?

I did not enter the BF to cause any problems as it appears there are enumerable issues in place already. However, I too have an interest in edged weapons and frankly am very proficient with them.

I don't know you and have no beef with you, I just didn't care for your initial attitude.

I agree with Teacher.... We need to be careful what we post, and think before we post.

I am guessing by your name that you are a Vietnam Vet. If that is so since it probably wasn't said when you came home. Thank you for your service.
 
Is there any record of Duane Dwyer being in the USMC under this name or are the only military records under the name Poland?
I still cannot understand how his wife and kids use Dwyer legally if there is no name change.
How does one register a business, engage in Government (Federal, state, Local) contracts, buy property and get mortages and deeds using the name Duane Dwyer but there is no record of any name changes?

I have never been in the service but I am led to believe their records are or can be inaccurate, is this true?

There must be a solid Poland-Dwyer connection out there, why can't it be located?
 
Thank You Micky, for the Welcome Home.... After so many years we kinda gave that up. I received my "Welcome Home" when I participated in the "Run for the Wall" and "Rolling Thunder". Since your on the East Coast, I would hope that you have visited my scared Wall.

Yes, I was in the Nam from 8-68 to 8-69 and I have a Life Membership with: The Military Order of the Purple Heart. I was no Gunny Hathcock and like the Teacher, I have the ultimate respect for the men who do volunteer for: SEALS, Snipers, Special Forces, etc. Thats why I despise the posers. For that reason I wrote my 1st entry on this forum.

When I read about the founders of Strider I was greatly disappointed and disgusted. Since you are a Veteran I would assume that you should feel the same. As Veterans or even as good citizens, we cannot allow a few people to steal the dignity and honor of men that have died for that cause and allow others to profit from it. My God where is our PRIDE.........

In any event, I came here researching the Yarbourgh Knife. I just need to keep on traveling.

I thought I read it takes about 8-10 support troops to keep one guy in the field. Something to think about. Then there is that whole asymmetrical warfare thing you should be a bit familiar with it, Tet in 68 was a good example. The news today is even better where there are no front lines and I would say now a simple driver is probably more at risk than an infantrymen. I really don’t need to see a reminder of what this current conflict has cost but I bet somewhere there is a breakdown of combat troop losses vs. Support losses. I bet it would be interesting to see. I would like to see you use such a caviler tone to the remaining family of today’s troops and tell them that their soldier was just a softskill and didn’t take any risks.
 
Just a quick comment that's part of the thread drift.

A cop on the Street ain't worth a damn unless he has a good dispatcher watching his ass.

I can't count the number of times I have read about a dispatcher who has covered someone's butt and saved it to boot!!

If it were not for good dispatching I would never had made a cent driving a cab

Now, back to the topic.

When will someone provide solid proof that Dwyer/Poland are one in the same??

I have had the honor of visiting the Wall, as well as our local memorial. I agree that if someone did what is being reported here they need to be taken to task. Mick Strider is old news, this about Duane Dwyer is new, and as you will notice from my previous posts all I want is someone to actually show how they connect Poland/Dwyer. There is nothing actually showing them as the same person, or that if they are that Dwyer actually said these things about hinself. All most of us want here is some actual proof not just circumstantial evidence. My apologies for jumping on you. This is a normal tactic though on threads like this for someone new to come along just as a thread is about to die and revitalize it.

If some of you guys are close with the Strider group and are clients why don't you flat out ask Duane if these allegations are true? I don't expect that he'll answer random questions from someone he doesn't know, but coming from friends or clients, why would he refuse to answer this simple question? In my mind the link is not so strong that a denial wouldn't tip the balance in his favor. Have his defenders that posted here bothered to ask him what the truth is?

I agree with you to a certain degree. However, if I were the accused (Dwyer) I would be gathering every document and witness that I could muster in order to defend myself and prove my innocence. I would be posting information, explanations, making calls and gathering support in order to defend my self. I would not be closed mouth and pretending not to see the pink elephant.

I don't believe that it is our position to ask him for an appointment so he can explain his innocence. Dwyer should have already been standing on the soap box and screaming. I have read this entire thread Re: Duane and company and I have read the pow site. Personally, I have concluded that Dwyer is Poland and Poland is Dwyer. Either or both are one and is a fake.

As for the Sniper stuff, Certificates of Graduation from USMC Scout/Sniper School can be purchased on line at: http://military-certificates.com/ for $28.95. The certificates are complete with your name, rank and date of graduation. There are other cerificates available as well. Hell, you can be anything you want to be if you have the money.

There will always be fakes, frauds and posers. During the Viet Nam War there was approximately 2 million men serving with approximately 12% of those actually engaged in combat. Today there are less than 1 million Viet Nam Veterans still a live. But yet there are more than 10 million men claiming to be Viet Nam Veterans and course every one of those was in combat.

My big question is: Why does a Northern California Police Department employ a Southern California resident. Even as a Reserve Officer the distance is phenomenal. How would an SRT member respond to an emergency 350 miles away? I have my own opinions but you draw your own conclusions.

I see individuals defending Duane and saying great things about him. But my question is: How well do they really know him? Has there ever been a classmate from sniper school come forward to vouch for him? or a colleague assisting him from one of the other wazoo agencies that he's claimed to have been involved with?

I smell fraud and deception, and I believe he has lined his pockets from his stories. Until he has proven himself to be honest individual, I would not purchase or carry one of his products. There are way to many legitimate and honest knife makers available to have to deal with this type of controversy.

Its a shame that they built their business on a "LIE" and that the public had trust in them. Once again the public has been hood winked.
