Well, back on page 9, I said this:

I think I have a good idea as to who "Bubba" is. Included in some of Bubba's posts is verbage that seems quite familiar. Take for example the use of the term "rock star." I seem to recall seeing that very term used in a similar context, on another website (and not in the magazine article about "rock star knifemakers"), a while back, before the content was removed. I have to wonder if Bubba's posts are going to mysteriously vanish as well.

So, we'll have to see if he makes good on that. Now that you mention it, RNST, it would be good to know what exactly is at play here. I just want to know what the score is. That is, the truth (or lack thereof) of and the reasons for the claims made the parties themselves, the magazine writers, and the other knifemakers, and without further confusion from the apologists. But it certainly wouldn't hurt to know the motivations of the original poster either. I'm sure that's not to much to ask.

I am so thankful that I cannot attend SHOT 2008. Just the thought that I might attend sends this 5'6" 275 bald 50 something year old keyboard commando type into constant panic attacks.

There is just too much secret stuff that goes on there. I hear that people get invited to go outside at these types of shows and that concerns me because I once heard that the CIA utilizes snipers and as soon as you step outside...........................................................BANG!!!

There are plenty of negative attacks even some undeserved attacks on the net, its full of such things. Then there are real stories backed up by credible evidence that get posted on subject related information forums.

I'm sure some would like to spend a few days digging for information on me and turn the whole thread into that subject, too bad thats not how this works. May I suggest you start a separate thread on how I have lied to you through advertisement by false military claims.


Relating to all the BS thats been posted concerning this being a personal attack on the Strider Guys, If it were a personal attack it would be all prison sex jokes and would not include any factual information such is that being made available on the POW Network.


In order to set the record straight, POW Network was not set up to be used as a personal attack against anyone. It was set up to bust liars, phonies, and frauds who try to use false military claims for personal gain.

I don't think anyone is able to predict the final outcome at this early stage of this story. [.......]

There are currently many more questions than anyone posting here can possibly know the answer to right now.


Will some high powered Veterans Groups make public comments about this situation then get involved?

Will Buck Knives change their website to reflect reality and make a public statement regarding their involvement with the Strider Guys?

Will Kershaw Knives make a public comment about the current status of their relationship with the Strider Guys?

Will the Army Times, Stars and Stripes, Leatherneck, or any number of military oriented magazines and newspapers do a formal story on this subject matter?

Will this continue to be a small story for insiders in the Blade Industry or will it end up in local news or even go national news, possibly as a story on 60 minutes or some other investigative reports?

What will happen at the Shot Show in 2008? Business as usual? A small scale to even large riot? A disappearing act?

Are there current criminal investigations going on that will eventually produce an indictment?

Any and all of the above are legitimate possibilities IMO....... any, all, or none could occur. To me.... it will be very interesting to see / hear how this plays out.

The "poser problem" / mentality..... as a whole, must be much greater than I ever realized / thought about in my small sphere of influence.

The first time I was ever really first hand made aware of it was when I placed an on line order with a Fly Fishing Shop in North Carolina. I had done a "search" for the item I was looking for and this shop came up in the results. They had the item on sale so I called to see if they had the item in stock. The owner happened to answer..... he talked a great game, nice, personable, friendly, etc., etc. ------ I place my order for the item and several more also while I was at it.

Well..... weeks and months later I never got all my stuff.... always an excuse from him...... :jerkit:..... I had already paid mind you ... for all of it.

I started searching on some forums and got the real story.......
In short... he had opened a Fly Shop in NC. Created this HUGE PERSONA of being a military "bad ass" and suckered in a bunch of gullible guys..

It pretty much turned into TATICAL FLY FISHING ...... Anyway, a huge mess..... people ripped off world wide...... feeling hurt, reputable people who "threw" in with him having to dig themselves out of a huge hole with egg all over their face and worse ..... and on & on & on.

Turns out he served in the motor pool and was a diesel mechanic. [Which I might add is just fine...... :thumbup: ..] BUT, the SUPER DUPER SPECIAL FORCES TOUGH GUY.... KILL YOU WITH HIS PINKY FINGER TYPE,,,, he made himself out to be..... HE WAS NOT.

He was a con man who had the words and verbage right. He had a group of guys that defended him right down to and just beyond, the time he dissapeard with what $$$ was left and left a good guy... his partner.... who had been dumb..... holding the bag.......:thumbdn:

Kinda long story I know,,, sorry...... But I have said the above to say this,,,

It would be very interesting if 60 Minutes or some reputable News Group would do a National Story on Posers ......... an EXPOS'E.
It would most likely be very informative .......

Someone brought this to the attention of POWNET and the major factors are not just "some guy" using a bogus hero background to market a product. I am not going to SHOT in 2008, I cannot (fear, it's fear I say). I have not been to a SHOT since 1998 but I truly doubt a riot might ensue. Maybe a fist fight or two but that used to be a pretty common back in the "old" days. As for Lynn Tompson and the others that you suggest send payment, I have got to believe you a big fan of theirs. I bet you are now number 1 on their Xmas lists. In their eyes you started out as Bubba 5 or Bubba 6 and now enjoy the rank of Bubba1, Chief Bubba!!!!

Hey make no mistake, it does not matter to me who you are. To your credit you have done nothing more than report what was happening and almost all has been verified by the facts/evidence that you have presented. Over at USN he posted that "our 'coaches' have advised us not to respond to the actual issue at hand".

I think his coaches are wrong. Whether or not the actual issue (so there is an issue??...I think he must have meant "accusation") occurred or not, "no comment" automatically suggests one is guilty these days. PR101...don't go on the internet and post "no comment".

Further, if an owner does decide to say anything publically then he should address the "issue". He might not realise it but his post is a response! His response was to come out and attack credibility but that is also a failing tactic unless you have a TON of supporting evidence. He should know this as it seems he was forced to issue an apology in the past. That post makes zero sense.

This is a black and white issue from a PR perspective and his coaches have advised him a shade of grey? It's possible he didn't understand his "coaches" but they should have advised him not to respond, period. Also, they should advise him that if the company is going to officially respond to these accusations it shouldn't be him. He should make the spokesperson someone else, like one of those coaches, instead of being forced to address the convict stuff before talking "trash". Jeepers, have someone else draft the post!

I don't know anything about him or his knives...just commenting on the PR aspect. If his coaches approved that post then he should get new coaches.

It seems to me that priority one among the Strider defenders gracing us in this thread is trying to make it (the thread, that is) appear to be about something that it is not. But, nevertheless, no amount of attempted derailment, twisting of words or even overactive imaginations will change the facts from what they increasingly seem to be into what a few here would prefer. Actually, if anything, all that the above behavior does is cast an even brighter spotlight upon all the dirty laundry being revealed here. After all, there is no tiger in the room; thats just a shadow you're throwing sticks at. A large elephant, impossible to miss if one's eyes are open, on the other hand, is a different story.

100% agree. Not that my voice counts for much at all but, if this happened, I would be among the first to stand up and give them respect for doing so. Like I said before, it takes a lot of balls to do that kind of thing whereas lying is easy. And they do make great knives by nearly all accounts.

The knife community can be very forgiving. There are numerous examples when a mistake was lived up to and put entirely in the past.

Your post above your last one hits the nail on the head.

Sometimes people can make matters worse by defending a friend without thought as to what they are saying. There are a lot of examples of that in this thread. For example: some of the defenders have posted outright incorrect insinuations.

Hard to understand how they are helping things when it fact those types of defense make matters worse.

I am still trying to find "the party line" and trying to figure out where all those posts that we delete go.
(hint to self - "you will be looking for the rest of your life since finding things that do not exist is impossible." )

I have been involved with this forum since it started. It's current owner has stayed at my house twice. I personally know the character and integrity of that person.
As mods, we are all different with different ideas and opinions the best of those ideas and opinions usually rise to the top when we work together on this place.
Never have any of us had a hint of a request (or order for that matter) to follow any agenda towards an individual or a company by Spark. NEVER, other than to not comment at all on two situations that I remember and neither of those situations are tied in any way to this mess.

His expectations of us are stated. They are general and they involve nothing more than a community of respect, friendships and doing what we can to keeping out things that would degrade that community. Forgiveness is a part of that ideal; as is living up to the mistakes we do make here.
